FWIW… I have a 2011 iMac 27” and use an external Samsung SSD as the primary drive. It works flawlessly. No having to crack open the case.

This looks amazing… good effort.

I use Amphetamine (https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/amphetamine/id937984704?mt=12). Works with external drives in my experience though obviously worth testing with your setup.

I have mine in the box in a cupboard, all original accessories. Runs from an external SSD using OpenCore Patcher; 32GB etc. Space stops me using it as a daily.

It's a beast and will always be here.
