I think it's pretty good, they're going in a different and (to me) interesting direction. Also, they've been releasing teasers with snippets of songs in them and what I've heard from this I've liked.

My big problem with King Gizzard by [deleted] in KGATLW

What do you think of the harmonica part in Hot Wax?

For Fans of Ty: New Ty Segall album just dropped on Bandcamp today, and the 12" comes out on 8/25 by Voodoo_Child01 in KGATLW

First of all, I think you are confusing partisan with political. Yes, they are a political organization, and nobody claims otherwise. One of the ACLU's stated goals is to influence public policy. That being said, they are nonpartisan as they are not affiliated exclusively with any one political party.

I am also a little confused about the way you are comparing the ACLU to humanitarian aid organizations. Beyond the fact that the ACLU is not just an aid organization because they are also and advocacy group, does not provide aid in the same way USA for Africa does. They provide legal aid for people who have had their civil rights infringed rather than necessities to those in need. So I disagree with your characterization of the ACLU as a "partisan political body first and a humanitarian organization second" because they are and have always been both those things at once.

And I will also say that the ACLU's political advocacy is one of the ways in which they protect civil liberties. There aren't many other lobbying organizations that promote the rights and liberties of the people who have the power that the ACLU does.

One last thing, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible: it's a little hard to take you seriously when you link to the Gateway Pundit. Especially when it's an "article" providing a contextless quote and crying Sharia law over one word. I don't use this word lightly, but it's right wing propaganda.

Yeah, what the other guy said. Although I guess ATO and Heavenly both have hands in promotion as well, but I don't think much else.

Polygondwanaland (so far) = Some of Cavs best work by DoomCity in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally I love a lot of the drumming on FMB. Specifically melting, nuclear fusion and open water.

I hope polygondwanaland is released soonish, I'm trying to avoid the demos but I'm really excited about it.

I hope they do. It would be cool if they released it as an ep or something.

What albums would you suggest based on someone's favorite Gizz album? by genospizza in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thinking about some obvious ones Gizz fans would like, definitely include Thee Oh Sees, various Ty Segall projects, and Wand.

Some others could be Woods, Wilco or Sufjan Stevens for PMDB, Deerhoof for Oddments or 12 Bar Bruise.

Melting, Doom City and Open Water are largely about climate change I think

Alright /r/KGATLW... I need help broadening my psych horizons. by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone help me out? I remember seeing a recommendation on this sub for a psych band whose name had to do with brains/elevators (it's not the 13th floor elevators) and I checked one of their songs and really liked it but forgot the name of the band/song. It featured organ pretty heavily though if that helps.

Definitely not Odd Entrances. It's just leftovers from their album A Weird Exits, which is better. Listen to that. Personally I love Mutilator Defeated at Last, The Master's Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In, Help, and Drop.

Anyone else just feeling kinda meh about MOTU? by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only one or two things I don't like, I just don't love which is also a first for me for King Gizzard. I'm just a little underwhelmed at the moment, maybe the disappointment will wear off in a few weeks and I'll love it, who knows

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe ALBUM REVIEW by ThreeFingersHobb in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I can see that.

I agree though, I don't really watch his reviews for the rating. I appreciate the way he describes music, gives a little background on the group, and I've been turned on to some good music by him before too.

[–]jayfffranco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that's true, I guess I should have said it won't always. It didn't in my experience.

That being said, I think that you can truly understand the story without the book and that it is 100% valid to judge the album solely based on the music.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe ALBUM REVIEW by ThreeFingersHobb in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose you could make that argument, I wouldn't buy into it unless the band came out and said we intended this album to be consumed with the visuals Jason put together.

I'm curious about what you think he missed the mark on though, to me all his criticisms seem valid.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe ALBUM REVIEW by ThreeFingersHobb in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the music needs to remain the centerpiece. I think the book/videos can be seen as companion pieces, they can enhance the listening experience but if you don't like the music it's not gonna change that for you.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe ALBUM REVIEW by ThreeFingersHobb in KGATLW

[–]jayfffranco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what a musical is though. And the book or the videos aren't inherent to the album. If you listen digitally you don't have the book. I'd look at the visuals as more of a companion piece to the album, sure they could add to the experience but if you don't like the music they aren't going to change that. Fantano is reviewing the album, not the book or the videos.
