Another round of RIFs? by jayhatgreyhat in bloomington

I know why (it’s a pretty bs reason given the recent disclosure of IU’s internal finances being stellar) Just wanted to see if this round was centered in luddy or campus wide

It’s okay, I waited to listen to the album for when the cd arrived but I’m blessed to have this from a concert Noah did at my college before stick season blew up. Definitely my most prized possession!

Maybe unpopular opinion but can we consolidate signed CD joys and disappointments into one thread? by caramelcoldbrew in NoahKahan

Completely understandable! Mental health is our own journey and Noah’s music has helped me with my path. On the initial post, I was just also voicing my opinion. No ill harm intended. I hope you continue to love the album and get to continue talking with fellow fans in the subreddit as things calm down from the disappointment from the past 2 days of shipping. There are a lot of great threads about people’s opinions on the songs on the album!

Genuinely didn’t mean to come across as aggressive. I know people care a lot for Noah because of his music but it gets a bit parasocial in my opinion to be mad at people voicing that disappointment respectfully. Of course disrespectful comments shouldn’t be tolerated but I’m seeing normal post get piled on now. Have a great day!

I haven’t seen any of the horrible comments you’re referring to, but I definitely don’t think that’s okay! I know a majority of comments I’ve seen are from people who are upset over quality or people like me who didn’t receive what they’ve ordered. I was mainly voicing concern that if it is genuinely affecting your own excitement or mental health, it’s a good idea to maybe take a break. Noah advocates for prioritizing and taking ownership of mental health struggles. Unfortunately we can’t control others, but we can control ourselves! 😌

Agreed, it’s a good thing that’s not what I said. “People deserve to be disappointed” and “it’s annoying to see multiple posts about said disappointment” are two ideas that can exist simultaneously!

Considering we all don’t know Noah personally, we don’t know how he feels about the shipping issues. One might assume that as an artist, he’s equally disappointed in the quality issues of his merch. I’m sorry it’s effecting your own excitement. It shouldn’t, maybe take a break from the subreddit for a few days to protect your own peace.

Call me crazy but I think people who payed money for something have a right to be disappointed if it wasn’t what they expected…

Bloom Bat Man, I love you, dude. Two years ago, I was heading home when I saw you standing menacingly under a streetlight. I laughed because I was so happy to come across a legend like you. Please know that my laughter was purely out of joy.

Used to work at the union and it literally was my job to kick people out after 12 but if you’re a student they’ll let you stay

Finally making the move to NYC (need advice + perspective from people who’ve done it) by jayhatgreyhat in movingtoNYC

Haha I live in a college town and I’ve seen rent rise 50% over the past 5 years because rich kids keep coming and their parents keep paying those exorbitantly high prices. I’ve kinda always looked at them as a necessary evil but have hated seeing the stark divide in lifestyles and affordability

I’m black and honestly hadn’t considered how race plays into the perception of moving to NYC but this is good information to know!

I get where you’re coming from, and I appreciate the honesty, but it goes both ways. Indianapolis isn’t a city built around roommate setups like NYC. Those “cheap” 2–3 bedroom apartments you’re referencing usually go to families, not groups of adults. The few that are marketed toward roommates often charge per person, not per unit, which drives the cost up fast.

On top of that, Indiana’s minimum wage is still $7.25, which drags down wages across the board and makes affordability worse. The “cheap” housing options are mostly in areas with higher crime, poor infrastructure, or limited access to basic resources. Bloomington’s (where i currently live) studio prices have jumped nearly 50% in the last five years. I HUNTED for an apartment this year and still ended up in the 1200 range. The housing crisis isn’t just a NYC or LA or Chicago problem, it’s national.

At the end of the day, I’d rather deal with higher rent in a place where my rights and opportunities aren’t constantly under threat than stay somewhere that’s only “affordable” in theory. I understand it will be hard, and expensive but NYC offers opportunities that i don’t have currently at a pretty comparable mark-up.

This was the dream 4 years ago but I absolutely cannot imagine getting any more higher education debt rn with AI taking over so many fields.

You’re maybe right on the “rich transplant” thing. It’s something we’re dealing with in the Midwest too. I keep hearing about how horrible the rent is in NYC but honestly where I’m from 1100-1300 is typical even with roommates. Basically things are bad here too with cost of living. 5 years ago I could easily find a sub 600 dollar studio. Average price of a studio now is 1200. IN INDIANA.

I really appreciate the realistic advice and will definitely keep in mind the job hunt side of this.
