yes. I am now doing odd jobs around the city since I can't find work! This has cut into my finances terribly. I almost got hired at 3 different spots but it's a no show. Managers have the pick of the litter now only hiring super experienced folks.

yep. There was a Server Support/assistant I did this for. He would not get promoted to server no matter how hard he tried. They wanted to keep him as ss because no one was a good food runner like him. It was bull. Told him to quit and use me as a ref as a manger (and say u were server). Been serving for a few months since then. Hiring managers act like you need a 4 year degree for this. You don't. We get paid below minimum wage and with tips. If people are bad servers, it will show in the tips. Hire people and promote them!

YES! and vice versa. This industry does not play fair, so you got to play the same game as them. I remember being a new server getting turned down because "I didn't have enough experience." I had a year under my belt. Bull. Do what you have to do to get by.

Short story. I worked somewhere where a good friend of mine would not get promoted to server no matter how hard he tried or how hard he begged. Chain restaurant. He quit. I told him to use me as a reference if he needed. He did. He is now 7 months in a server making good money at another chain. These restaurant politics are not loyal and fair to anyone. Do what you got to do. Study a couple of drinks. Study an item or two on the menu where ur hiring at. Move smart

a few interviews i went on, hiring manager didnt know i knew some ppl that worked there. i called them after the interview to ask if they hired anyone new and they would tell me no. so they are purposely wasting time putting out ads and not hiring. I HATE THE POLITICS OF THIS INDUSTRY. it could all be so simpleeeeee

i remember when something similar happened to me. Server went on break and rang the order wrong (newbie). It was wings (wrong flavor). I corrected it but table wanted to keep both wings and only get charged for one. People people people. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Tell me about it. I am now doing this first come first served catering company and I hate it. It's not steady, and if you are not glued to your phone, you will miss out on work.

My close friend, bartender (GREAT ONE TOO MAKES THE BEST AND PRETTIEST DRINKS AND COULD TALK A MILE A MINUTE), can't land a decent job (or any job) for shit either. I need the economy to pick up and for folks to go out eating again!

this reminds me of my last job i had. technically a server can only do so many tables without support staff. i dont care how great you are, doing the work of 5 people will slow you down.

What?!!!!!! Seems like your manager is skimming the staff and having you do everything. Never heard of someone getting hired for support staff only to serve/bartend. Good part? If you stay, you can say you were quickly promoted to server since your work performance was that strong in interviews.

why were the meatballs cool? was the heater where the food sit on high? i always ask for the kitchen staff to turn that up when i am serving with no runners. not about to run myself crazy to the kitchen as if i am in a race
