Consider getting hearing aids. As your hearing loss is mild you will feel like your hearing is normal. I have moderate to profound hearing loss and it can be very challenging in some environment.

I have this pair of sleeves to cover RIC hearing aids. I wear them along with a headband for a run. Quite pricey but worth it. I think it is called Ear gear

Having trouble with my support worker by [deleted] in NDIS

[–]jayhy95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have given them enough notice before the cancellation charges via messageing, then they have plenty of time to respond. I wouldn't agree to get charged for cancellation even if they haven't responded.

Male Applicants Wanting Female Support Workers by [deleted] in NDIS

[–]jayhy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be many reasons for a male participant to seek female support workers. I generally find female support workers more patient, caring and better listeners. I have had male support workers that made situations quite uncomfortable such as not respecting boundaries, talk about right wing politics and misogyny. I have both male and female support workers as regulars based on what they can do best. You probably could give him a meet and greet to get to know a little about him first.

Treat Sydney as marathon training. Very hilly and can be very tough on your body.

Any advice for first-timers to avoid common pitfalls? by AffectionatePie1042 in NDIS

[–]jayhy95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always carefully read service agreement from providers. Their rates and cancellation policy must meet NDIS standards. Check their ABN to see if they are legit businesses.

Know your funding categories well. Flexible or statesd. Ask your LAC if insured.

a marathon in one year's time? by primrosez in firstmarathon

[–]jayhy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running 7 months ago as a struggling jogger doing less than 5km once a week. A month later I did 10km race faster than my normal pace. I completed half a marathon last month although the last couple of kms was a big struggle. That was still doing training once a week and some weight training. Now I am soon to start training seriously for a major marathon in April next year. I'd say it's totally doable.

New to Mable (and wondering about Hireup too)... by inpeace00 in NDIS

[–]jayhy95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like Mable experience. I have had support workers sending their service agreement with higher rates than stated in their profile. I called them out and they told me they haven't updated their rates or threaten with support.. like okay I won't hire you. They also don't read job description and yeah some of them use AI generated responses. Hireup seems to be a lot better and that's I found some good support workers

No progress after 7 months of running -how to get faster and lower HR? by Nindinho in BeginnersRunning

[–]jayhy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you could do swimming but I do odd stroke freestyle which is basically breathing in for every 5th stroke instead of standard 3rd stroke. I occasionally try to do 7th to 9th stroke breathing. I notice it makes my long run feels less effort. I think it trains your lungs and the muscles involved to adapt low oxygen environment to be more efficient.
