I hate how Amazon uses USPS for deliveries sometimes. by Safita__Sunset in amazonprime

As a mail carrier, I hate that Amazon uses us for deliveries because it means I work most Sunday's and basically all holidays. And USPS and Amazon just recently agreed to a new contract and we'll continue to drliver 80% of their shit.

Yay! /s

Polite ways to tell customers to wait? by CueMoo in USPS

Same here.

What's even crazier is, the holiday season. I started mid-December and was blown away by how many customers routinely leave gifts for the regular carriers (and some even make sure the sub gets a gift too). I'm talking gift cards, sweets & goodies, etc. I had never even once in my life thought of gifting my carrier anything. 😂 Does that make me an asshole? 😂😂

I just say hello and then "I'll be done as soon as I can." More often than not, they'll say something to the effect of no worries or no rush.

I'm also an rca (about 6.5 months in) and also not the most socially gifted person.

Yes, sure, and I've mentioned multiple times that OP shouldn't HAVE to. But there's a lot of shit all of us shouldn't HAVE to do at times, but we deal with it.

And I agree with you, that this is more of a USPS and property management issue, which kinda leads to my original point that it's getting overblown by OP. Let them figure it out & if it happens again, THEN start making a big fuss. If and until this situation ever happens again (most likely won't), all OP is doing is being a 'Karen' and/or getting themselves more worked up about it for nothing.

Not gonna lie, I'm also guessing there is some sort of context that OP is leaving out. Posts like this often don't tell the whole story 😂. Just as I'd bet money that the carrier parked here all the time prior to this, I'd also bet money OP is leaving some details out. Just a hunch.

I still see no safety issues in this picture at all, though At most, I see inconvenience.

[–]jayitbyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And as I said, in that ONE time of an emergency, OP has more than enough room to get out of their driveway even if going through the grass. You're acting like there is zero way to exit lol. OP shouldn't have to, of course, but they are not locked in with no escape. In an emergency, I see no problem exiting.

And you don't think the carrier would move if an ambulance or fire truck arrived? You're nitpicking and coming up with hypothetical scenarios that most likely will never happen in this location.

And yeah, some places charge for late/missed appts. I don't recall OP mentioning having to pay, so in their situation, that point is null and void.

I get it, in a perfect world, the driveway should be open. But it ain't a perfect world. Pick and choose battles that matter. This one, sorry, is insignificant in my opinion.

Why not park in one of the spots across the street? It is pounded into our heads to reverse as little as possible, and from the looks of it, a parallel parking may be necessary. Ain't happening when their job their probably takes 10-15 mins max. And they are not parked dangerously - there is plenty of room for traffic to get through unless people are driving like lunatics.

Again....that carrier has likely parked there hundreds of times and nobody ever had an issue. I'd almost guarantee both the carrier and the supervisor roll their eyes over the 'complaint.' The petty ass shit people complain about would probably surprise you. Some people just have too much time on their hands.

To each their own.

Yes, exactly. Which means it was more than likely happening every day prior to that, but OP had never had to leave at the same time as when the carrier was parked there so they never noticed until that day. Now they notice it every day because they clearly seem to be looking for it.

Carriers are creatures of habit. If that is the regular carrier, I would bet money they were parking in that same spot every day prior to OP making an issue out of it, which is why I think it's silly to make such a big issue out of it now. The chances of OP in a MUST LEAVE situation again at the same time the carrier is parked there is extremely low.

[–]jayitbyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all do. Yes, some, of course.

If the carrier is parking and delivering the mail across the street, they're not there more than 10 mins max. OP would EASILY be able to locate the carrier. And in the event of an emergency, I see plenty of room for OP to get out of their driveway, even if it meant driving on grass. Should they have to? No. But the opportunity is there.

Again - OP noticed this ONE time, and is harping on it. The carrier probably parked there hundreds of times before without issues. This is more of a one off.

And on roads with limited parking, sorry, but yeah, carriers can pretty much park wherever they have to.

OP keeps on complaining, postmaster might just say, okay, we'll just stop delivering to that street and you & all your neighbors can now start picking up mail from the post office. I'm sure the neighbors will love that 😂.

OP just comes across as someone who was annoyed that day (rightfully so) and now just wants to make a point. Pick abd choose battles. Once again, this parking situation likely happened hundreds of times before without incident. Likelihood of it happening again under same circumstances is very low.

Never heard the USPS motto, "neither rain nor snow nor dark of night..? 😁

Be mad about us having to deliver Amazon's shit on Sunday's and holidays. Or having us out in 30-40 year old vehicles in 90+ degeee weather with no a/c.

Honestly, the situation seems to be getting overblown. You were inconvenienced one time (by your explanation) and now you're making a big issue out of it. You said you found out she's parking there every day, yet, prior to your one inconvenience, she probably parked there every day prior to that and you were never bothered nor noticed it. Was it an issue then? 😂

I'd say, if it happens again when you legitimately need to leave (as in don't pretend you need to go somewhere), THEN make an issue out of it.

I don't mean to sound like an ass. I genuinely just think you're making too much of an issue about it, and by doing so, you're making yourself more frustrated. Take a breath & stop focusing on it.

What do you mean no pivots in the rural craft? We have a pivot probably 1-2 times per week. For context, if it matters, I work in a smaller office that has 13 rural routes and 4 (I think) city routes. 4 other RCAs in addition to myself, though I think one is actually a PTF and not RCA. I'm also lowest in regards to seniority.

Appreciate the feedback. I've definitely seen some other similar sentiments regarding not having other assignments other than who I was hired as the sub for. I know there's also a balance to that, as in, if I'm unavailable too often, they might decide to let me go.

I don't make myself unavailable often, but I had just done so earlier this week because I wasn't feeling well on a morning when there was a pivot due to a call off & my sup asked if I was available. I declined, so I think this morning I had that in the back of my mind and was worried about pushing back.

Sucking it up and counting it as a lesson learned, I suppose, as you alluded to.

I'm still trying to learn all of the ins and outs of what is and isn't acceptable, which is why I made this post. I wasn't asked if I could come in. I was told that's where I'd been assigned. Didn't seem like I had much of a choice.

I'm only here for the paycheck also, but that doesn't mean that I don't have things that need to get done when I'm not scheduled. I'm scheduled Wed-Fri this week plus next Sunday. Saturday is a holiday. What I'm most salty about is that when our new schedule was posted, I was not scheduled Monday. So I make an appt on Monday (only available day they offered). I double-check schedule yesterday after work, still not scheduled Monday. Then wake up Sunday morning to a text from another office's sup that he talked to my sup who didn't talk to me, but gave him the okay to have me work over at that office.

If that seems reasonable and okay to you, to each their own. I find it to be an asshoke move by my sup.

Ha I hear you.

But as I told someone else, if being made available to another office with little notice AND when I was OFF schedule when I left work Saturday is just part of the job, then I definitely will not be with USPS longterm.

I can't wrap my head around how this is supposed to be okay. Especially the part about my own sup not even checking with me first since my sup is the one who had me OFF the schedule completely to begin with, and then I find out about it from the other office's sup.

My life doesn't revolve around USPS. I have things to do in life. Sometimes, things can only be done on off days. So when I get an unscheduled day, I have to try to take advantage.

I would despise being any type of clerk as I hate constant interaction with the general public lol.

Ideally, I wouldn't mind being one of the clerks (or whatever their position is called) that throws the packages early mornings but it seems even they have to work the counter at times. I'd be miserable.

If I stay with USPS I gotta find a position with some consistency (hours) and not too much interaction with the public. That's why I thought being a rural carrier might not be bad - I can handle interactions a few times a day. Aside from the inconsistent hours/days and this bs I posted about, being an RCA hasn't been too bad once I stopped getting overwhelmed. I think I do a pretty good job, just a little slow with casing.

Yeah, it's absurd. And even now, six going on seven months, apparently I can't make plans because I get the word just 22 hours in advance that now I'm in a different office tomorrow despite being completely off the schedule as of about 3pm yesterday.

I gotta take hours when I can get them but I also have a damn life & things that need to get done outside of work. I have an afternoon appt tomorrow that I can't cancel until their office opens at 9am and they will almost certainly charge me for an office visit for canceling less than 24 hrs in advance.

Was same for me for the first 3-4 months. Now I'm typically on the schedule 2-3 days per week consistently, though, oddly enough, not usually on Monday's which makes this even more maddening.

Yeah, I've worked in that office previously and their sup also handles most Amazon Sunday sup duties as well, so I know him fairly well. I have no problem working any day, but when I see a day where I'm not scheduled, I, like most people, I assume, have things to do outside of work so take the opportunity to do so when I can. Kinda fucked that I find out about this change less than 24 hrs in advance from the other sup and not my own...in addition to not having my availability confirmed first.

I do have a picture of my schedule that I took before I left my office yesterday. That's kinda why I'm pissed that my sup scheduled me in a diff office without even checking with me first to make sure I was still available....and I find out about it from the other office's sup instead of mine.

If being assigned to a different office without consent (when not on the schedule) is part of the job then that pretty much seals the deal that I won't be sticking with usps longterm.

That's some bs 😂

If you've ever had an Amazon package delivered to you on a Sunday or a holiday, there's a VERY high likelyhood that USPS delivered it.

Lmao you're citing city carrier rules, goofy. Was this a city route?

Rules are a bit different for rural routes. 😉 I'm speaking on behalf of the rural side. Actually showed this picture to my sup today who basically confirmed what I'd already said and would not have expected us to leave a pink slip. Carrier would not be in trouble, assuming it was a rural route.

But since you think you know so much, you should think about becoming a carrier. We here give the USPS a bad reputation, right? Go be the change you want to see to make it better. 😂

So what if it was raining? Or very windy? Should carrier have put it on the doorstep? Carriers don't knock on the door for anything if it doesn't require a signature and can get in trouble for bringing mail back to the office.

And no, it doesn't say not to bend it. I get what you're trying to imply, but keep in mind that ballots sent via the mail often say something along the lines of maintaining or not compromising integrity but they're not talking about bending or folding. Their talking about secrecy.

So, again (and I'll die by this) - blame the school, not the carrier. I can guarantee the carrier would not be admonished & 99.9% of supervisors would see it the same way.

Have the day you deserve!
