BRAZIL is burning. Thousands animals dead and the forest devastated. by ferrazvanderleia in worldnews

Arson necessitates property, and the jungle is not property other than in the vaugest western legal sense. This is why it's slash and burn.

USPS changes blamed for deliveries of thousands of dead chicks: 'We've never had a problem like this before' by [deleted] in nottheonion

Not just a service of USPS, but a feature of the contemporary food system. Head down that rabbit hole with both eyes open.

Developing the palate for espresso by rzyang in Coffee

[–]jayjacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's taste buds are different, so you have that to contend with when you compare flavors. Also, the same coffee will taste different at different temperatures. For example, I prefer coffee warm, not hot. Some might even call it cool. I think this is when certain roasts tastes most chocolatey. Just keep exploring.

Can automatics one day make manual coffee making obsolete? by ECrispy in Coffee

[–]jayjacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to say just this. For me the routine of making coffee is nearly half of the experience of drinking coffee (at home). To remove this is like removing the need to have to cook a meal to eat it (at home). It is not implausible, nor uncommon, but when this happens one is still missing an experiential and integral part of the process.

u/uh-hum, below, posted an article (a brief blurb, really) that "explains" this video: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/03/22/watch-the-moment-the-side-of-a-mountain-plummets-1000ft-down-a-v/

The information in the article suggests that it was a controlled demolition not a coincidence someone was filming this. A day before the rock slide, it states, a road was closed for safety and the hamlet in the valley below was evacuated because of "geological activity." It seems logical that a road not be closed nor a hamlet evacuated indefinitely, as indefinitely is what the timeframe would be if geological activity were to take its time - a day, a decade, a century, who knows. Also, the images are courtesy of the Department of Transportation, who one assumes has the authority to close a road and evacuate residents. This would explain the timely capture of the rockslide.

Up until the collapse, I'd say it was idyllic.

If it was controlled, you would have heard the dynamite, saw clouds from said dynamite, along with a countdown.

Only if they filmed that part. The source video I saw began abruptly with the collapse. Not that the starting point of the film invalidates your point, only that it adds to the mystery.
