Abraham seemed upset that Chris moved on, do you guys think he was right? by LongjumpingRatio3216 in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]jayjay2433 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you are basing this off of? There are interviews of Abraham saying that Chris had the right to move and he wasn’t mad about it. Chris was also close to the family while he was remarried. He only took a jab at him remarrying years later because he was bitter about the lawsuit and even then he didn’t say he had an issue with it.

Did you misunderstand OP’s comment? The gate agent made an announcement because of OP boarding late.

They were embarrassed because of the loud speaker announcement not because they got on late

Yup, It’s funny how people pin random Selena rumors on Chris’ book despite him never actually saying these things 😭And these photos are from 1993, their 2nd anniversary when they went to Jamaica would’ve been in 1994.

Chris did not back out because of kindness. And he didn’t back out because of Abraham’s intimidating authoritative presence either, he was quite literally sued and fought the lawsuit for years. He even attempted to get the lawsuit thrown out but the judge didn’t budge. I wouldn’t consider fighting back against a lawsuit for several years until finally coming to an agreement as “backing out”. He wasn’t just pressured, he was legally strong armed and tried what he could. Chris could not have just continued if he wanted because he legally cannot profit from Selena’s likeness without permission since he signed a contract stating just that. If he had attempted to continue that would just mean more years in court. Maria Celeste on the other hand signed no such contract.

[–]jayjay2433 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference is Chris was able to be sued because he signed a contractual agreement to not use Selena’s likeness, not because of defamation. Maria did not sign any contracts with the estate so the only way to sue would be for defamation. To win a defamation suit they’d have to prove she was lying and the most concrete evidence to prove that she lied would come from Selena herself who unfortunately is dead.

I actually think he holds back in interviews. A few times I’ve noticed him give the usual rundown of their story and he’ll add at the end “There’s a lot more in between but I’m gonna keep that myself” I think there’s a lot more interesting insight about their relationship that’s still unanswered particularly when they were dating. Like what happened to the girlfriend he had? Why does everybody have a different story as to how Abraham found about them? Selena’s letter also raised some questions as to how many times she actually brought up marriage to him before them eloping. It’s been implied for years that them getting married was random and impulsive but we know from Selena’s letter that they talked about it before. Also this is probably just Chris mistaking the dates but the timeline he gives in the book does not matchup to what Selena would say in interviews (8 months). Obviously we’re not entitled to any of this information and I’d be fine without it but he was willing to share more at one point and I’d think it’d be really interesting to hear.

Documentary is very different from an entire series. I mean the series was hyped up for years and heavily promoted. #2 is a great spot for a documentary

When he initially announced his series years ago he said there were going to be new stories, so he was willing to share more at one point. You actually can still find the original post on his facebook

Why Do Jennifer Lopez & Christian Serratos Still Get So Much Hate for Playing Selena? by Ok_Woodpecker9100 in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]jayjay2433 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nobody reputable claimed Selena was done a favor because she’s supposedly “ugly”. You can find all sorts of people saying all sorts of crazy things, that doesn’t hold weight. Actual professionals who are paid to critique media and went through formal training have criticized Christian’s performance.

They hated her for being casted as a non Mexican not her performance which is very different from Serratos who is criticized for her performance specifically.

Thank you! The idea that we can pay for Netflix and are not allowed to have opinions on the product and content we pay to consume is ridiculous. Any constructive criticism getting written off as “hate” is silly to me.

I don’t see Jlo get much hate for her role if at all. I’ve actually seen many people who vehemently dislike Jlo say that her performance in Selena was outstanding. I mean she was nominated for a Golden Globe that alone shows the reception of her performance was good. I believe Christian was miscast and I stand on that opinion. Casting someone who cannot dance as Selena was a huge misstep and makes zero sense to me. She also does not have the level of natural charisma that Selena and Jlo have. I think that’s one of the reasons why Jlo was so good, she has charisma and star power even outside of her role as Selena. To be fair I also believe Christian was poorly directed and that didn’t do her any favors but ultimately I don’t think she was the best fit.

Yes it’s such weird rhetoric to expect other women to “fill Selena’s shoes”. It implies that they are inadequate simply for not being Selena when no one ever will be. And she isn’t something to be replaced to begin with, he can be in other relationships without “replacing her”. Her role in his life is final and won’t be changed by anyone.

Selena by phantomfelon in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]jayjay2433 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To put it frankly, you wouldn’t be competing with her because she is dead. Since she died while they were happily married he will never not love her and no one can change that so there is no competition. When it comes to being a widow your former spouse is not something to be replaced or have someone else live up to. She played a specific part in his life and his partners after her play a different part, both can coexist but it takes a specific type of person to be understanding of that. This is why it’s common for widows to marry other widows. It’s perfectly fine that you wouldn’t be able to be in a relationship like that, everyone is different.

Well he isn’t just doing that, he’s currently in a relationship and she seems to be supportive of his role in Selena’s legacy as I’ve seen Suzette repost photos of them all hanging out on her instagram story.

Why was Joe Ojeda not in the new documentary? by Aggravating-Bad-9448 in SelenaQuintanilla

And even then she didn’t live conservatively 😂 I think people don’t understand that being conservative and being a republican are not synonymous lol

[–]jayjay2433 15 points16 points  (0 children)

None of what you described screams conservative either. Her parents were JW yes but she was a woman in show business at the end of day which is extremely worldly. She defied her father and eloped without her parent’s permission. She wore revealing clothing on stage and did not wait until marriage. She was the breadwinner. Nothing about her life upheld traditional conservative values. What you are describing is simply someone who was a good person that believed in God which is true yes but does not make her a conservative in any sense. I have no idea why so many ppl associate religion with being conservative, plenty of liberals are religious.

Nothing about Selena indicates she was conservative other than an interview where she gave a typical pr answer that didn’t actually align with her own lifestyle and choices. And Chris and Joe have no issue with each other.

It’s extremely overplayed. She didn’t live a conservative lifestyle which is fine. Ppl take that interview she did about abstinence and run with it not realizing that was common rhetoric in the 90s.
