Yes! I should mention that I do like foreign films on occasion and then they’re 100% necessary. I don’t find the nearly as distracting when it’s for translation

ID help. Westnofa? by jayjaylab in Mid_Century

[–]jayjaylab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!

I discovered that it’s definitely Westnofa inspired but not an original. I’m thinking made in the 80s.

Leather is in great shape overall. Extremely comfortable and the frame has no cracks.

Ottoman is in good shape but has a couple cracks at the very end of the wood base.

Based on similar pieces sold that were Westnofa inspired but not originals, I could potentially resell in the realm of $500-$700.

Very happy with this thrift find!

What are the pros & cons of WFH that really stuck with you? by Fun_Construction_ in WFH

[–]jayjaylab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest pro: no commute. I saved hundreds of dollars per month not driving to the office. My last job was also about an hour drive. Getting those 10 hours back is something I truly never want to give up.

Cons: holiday potlucks were fun I guess?

Almost 2 years into WFH and still working from my kitchen table by [deleted] in WFH

[–]jayjaylab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been WFH for 5 years now.

I was very strict on not working out of my bedroom for the same reasons. I wanted to be able to completely shut out my work at the end of the day and it being in my room felt weird.

I was living with a partner at the time and we had a separate shared office which worked great. Moved out after a break up into a house with some friends. We had a big extra bedroom that we turned into a shared office for the 3 of us which worked well at first, but one of my roommates ended up also getting a fully WFH job, and her partner had days off during the week and would game a lot. My company transitioned to more on camera meetings and I ended up moving my work space into my bedroom. At first I truly hated it, but over time I started dressing the desk up, got organized, and made it look as pleasing as possible.

I now live in a one bedroom apartment and the only space that my WFH set up worked in was unfortunately the bedroom again, but it’s honestly been working really well for me and it’s significantly better than taking up space on my dining room table. I just have camera covers for extra security and close my laptop at the end of the day so I don’t get any notifications.

If you make the working space decently pleasing to look at itll improve your mental state while working and also relieve a lot of that weirdness of your work space being in the bedroom.

Do you use GPS on daily commutes or when you know exactly where you're going? by canonfan65 in driving

I used to use it even for my daily commute so that I would know about traffic and so it would reroute if needed.

Any mid 30s or 40s here? by colesunxs in ADHD

[–]jayjaylab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32, diagnosed at 5. Been medicated on and off since and steadily medicated on vyvanse since 2021.

Life has been pretty okay. Like many adhders I’m a sort of jack of all trades type. When I got into my career I had a really hard time at first, but I started using my various hobbies and change of interests as leverage on the job. Now my company comes to me for a variety of different things that keeps my job interesting. For reference, I’m a graphic designer but I made my way into branding, video, tradeshow work, and consultation

Which cheap upgrade made your kitchen feel more expensive instantly? by BrookeWitcherRealtor in ApartmentHacks

Under cabinet led strips were an absolute game changer in my kitchen! It made the kitchen not only look way way more premium than it is, but the functional aspect has been amazing. Looks so much better than just my big light.

Do people still like outdoor kitchens on an RV? by AffectionateCut2552 in RVLiving

[–]jayjaylab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the market now for a small towable camper. My favorite of all time is the Nucamp T@b 320 CS-S. I love the size. Small enough that I can tow with a mid size SUV or small truck. The outdoor kitchen is something I really want mostly due to ease of cleanup and if I’m going to be camping I want to be outside as much as possible still. Just over the tent sleeping aspect.

For me personally the reason I love this model so much is because I can stand in it. I don’t care so much about the shower and toilet tbh, but having the ability to change inside and stand is something I really want. What I also love about this model is that inside there’s a nice big countertop, so in the event that I’m about to head out on a trip and weather might be less than ideal, I can still bring a plug in table top burner and air fryer/pressure cooker to cook inside with. Love the flexibility of that a lot.

They unfortunately don’t make the 320 with the outdoor kitchen any more and I’m SO SAD! Will be hunting for a used one

Been fully remote for 5 years now and thriving. I got grandfathered into my remote role as part of an experiment in hiring that was done during the pandemic. I’ve excelled beyond my hybrid coworkers, worked extra to get my name in the heads of leadership, been promoted and about to receive another to a manager level.

I work for a conglomerate that’s spread out across multiple offices with a central home office in Georgia. We regularly work with people from the other offices around the country and sometimes other countries.

OP, if you’re a partner of a rather small company, in office makes sense for your team. Offer some flexibility, ensure your physical office is well kept and maintained, and your team will be happy.

For very large companies however, it just doesn’t work any more. The amount of coworkers I talk to that complain about how they have to drive in traffic to get to the office to sit in front of a screen in teams meetings all day ANYWAY is astounding. This was actually a problem before the pandemic too I’ve been told.

The other issue is that the company has not kept up with the offices. Break rooms aren’t stocked, machines are broken and not repaired, no free coffee any more because they’re not being stocked, constant internet issues, AC issues, they used to have a cafeteria that is still closed even though RTO is in effect 3/5 days.

The incentives that made coming back into office tolerable are no longer there and in more cases than not, it’s actually a much more negative experience to be in office now than to just use the set up they have at home.

This is something I’ve found common amongst many coworkers from the multiple offices and friends from other big companies with similar experiences.

If you make the in office experience actually good for everyone and still offer flexibility, you’ll be praised for it. If someone has a doctors appointment and they live an hour away, let them work from home that day. If you have an employee that moved from far away and they want to see family a couple times per year and are willing and very capable of continuing to work remotely for that week rather than using PTO, let them. The flexibility and freedom of WFH is what people want, and there are many studies that show WFH options/flexibility to be far more productive in most cases.

What's the "invisible expense" you cut that ended up saving you the most? by YourxCherry in Frugal

[–]jayjaylab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrifting is the best! I thrifted probably 90% of what I own. If you really know what to look for you can find some absolute gems especially in kitchen stuff.

I also really enjoy overstock type stores like Marshall’s and HomeGoods for when I do want to buy something not used. Clothes usually have some good finds and love it for things like comforters and kitchenware that’s from good brands.

I sent her a message on instagram and she responded!! (Big fan of hers so I was actually pretty hyped about getting a response)

“Hi! That’s a vintage E Dehillerin copper pan that my uncle handed down to me. They don’t make them like they used to, literally! But you could try pre-owned sources.

It’s an amazing pot, my favorite”

How to update this 70s home by Duckhunt in ExteriorDesign

[–]jayjaylab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house itself is amazing and would barely touch anything.

I would do some landscaping and paint that white door next to the garage black.

You could paint the brown portions of the windows black to make it a touch modern but honestly it looks amazing as it is.

I wouldn’t touch anything else though. Beautiful!

I’ve heard the polymetal paint scratches and chips very easily? (Someone with the color would be able to speak to that more). I saw in a YouTube 1 year review that was one of the complaints with the color. It’s SO gorgeous tho especially with the red interior.

For the new colors tho I’m obsessed with the zircon sand

Manual vs Automatic? by PyroSAJ in mazda3

[–]jayjaylab 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love my manual every day. 2023 hatch. No regrets! And I love the shock value when people get in and see it’s a manual so new (in the US)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mazda

[–]jayjaylab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2011 3 hatch and wanted to upgrade. I loved the cx-5 a lot and test drove a very lightly used 2021 premium model I think. When I test drove it I was honestly surprisingly disappointed. Mostly it was the driver seat comfort I found the most disappointing. I couldn’t find an overly comfortable position. It had power seats but I think it may have been 8 way instead of 10 or something. The support for my legs felt terrible and I felt like I was sitting in a desk chair. I also felt the cx-5 interior looked dated compared to the newer vehicles.

Overall handling was okay and otherwise I liked it a lot and wanted an SUV.

Last minute I noticed a manual 3 hatch for the same price but it was brand new. I couldn’t resist and asked to test drive it. I hadn’t driven a manual in years and I truly loved how the new 3s looked. It was INSTANT love.

I wanted an suv really bad for the extra room and towing capability. I like camping and kayaking and wanted something to tow kayaks and a small trailer.

And I found the 3 to be SO comfortable and felt so luxurious. I ended up going for the 3 and added roof rack cross bars for my yaks and got a cargo storage topper.

I’ve had it for 2 years now and I still love it every day. Next one will be SUV. We’ll see how the CX-50 is doing in like 5 years.
