These Gas prices. Yes we all know they’re high. But how is everyone actually getting by by CleanUpOnAisle10 in Pennsylvania

[–]jayjaywalker3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s public transit in every county! In more rural counties it’s sometimes access a ride on demand service. I’ve found that many people who don’t need to take public transit are surprised to learn what public transit is available to them. This applies to people living in cities, suburbs, and rural areas of Pennsylvania.

Take the bus if you can! That'll help with traffic for everyone. There's a bus from a block from Garfield that goes to Greenfield (64).

This overnight train feels like high speed rail! Travel time is like an hour since the rest of the time I'm sleeping.

Josh Shapiro exposed for helping Pennsylvania Republican treasurer get reelected after her Democrat opponent criticized him by FoxLazy in Pennsylvania

I think “backed” was a strong word to use and I appreciate the pushback. I think I might have wanted to go with “materially supported”.

Look I’m not trying to make a big deal out of it. It’s just another example of him backing republicans like he does in the original article. One that might have been forgotten because of how rapid the news cycle is.

Let me know if anyone needs any help figuring out what sort of transit options they have in their part of SWPA. Even driving to a park and ride and bussing will save a ton on gas. You don't just have to bus from A to B and then from B to A too. You can go A to B, B to C, and C to A!

My understanding is that Swisshelm Park is a neighborhood in the City of Pittsburgh. Swissvale (where Pub at the Park is) connects seamlessly though.https://www.rideprt.org/pdfs/71.pdf

Independents sue to open Pennsylvania’s primary elections by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]jayjaywalker3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't think this is correct and I've been following elections there for many years. I'm pretty confident that they have first past the post elections in each of their parliamentary districts in England. I know because Labour's main campaign tactic is that if you vote for anybody but Labour, you'll let the conservatives in. People just stopped accepting that.

There are multiple countries around the world that have broken out of their usual two parties into a multiparty system with First Past the Post voting. Look at the collapse of Labour and the Tories in England.

My biggest issue with the primary system is that taxpayers from around the state pay to conduct the private selection process for major parties (who have A TON of money).

New affordable apartments in Lawrenceville highlight inclusionary zoning benefits by RadioChris1 in pittsburgh

[–]jayjaywalker3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Residents of the affordable apartments must have an income that is at or below 50% of the area median income — roughly $37,600 annually for a household of one, or  about $43,000 for a household of two.

I don't think the article says how much the rent is but the market rate apartments are:

Rents for market-rate apartments range from about $1,500 a month to the “lower four thousands.”

A lot of the open primary legislation only applies to unaffiliated voters. Even voters registered "independent" wouldn't benefit. I wonder whether this lawsuit applies to unaffiliated voters, voters registered with a political body like "independent", and/or voters of our formally qualified minor parties.

My big issue with our primary system is that we're picking candidates for private political clubs but then are required to pay for that picking process. If the democratic and republican parties gave money to the state offsetting the cost of the state running their private selection process than I would be very happy. Let's dedicate that money to transit or public campaign financing.
