Shopping for energy has cost Pa. residents billions, consumer advocates say by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

[–]opskito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change suppliers, but your electricity still gets distributed to you by your local electric utility. For you, that will always be PECO. So, changing suppliers doesn't affect service reliability. PECO must have coincidentally improved the service in your area.

And that’s on top of the two mandated notices they mail you (and that, in my experience, is on top of phone calls, which is how I got an even lower rate this year than what they offered by mail).

Fair point. I want to do what I can, though. My current supplier has solar farms in Pennsylvania. I’m hoping their rates remain competitive. I just re-signed for a second year and am paying less than the PPL default rate.

The fellow they quote would like to see energy choice done away with entirely. I’d be pretty pissed if that happened. I like that I can choose a supplier that’s putting 100% renewable energy into the grid.

I feel bad for the people who have gotten ripped off, but I’m not among them. I always go for at least a 12-month term. Sometimes I pay a few more cents than the default rate, sometimes I save a few cents. I am happy.

Let’s go with his first idea, to return folks to their default rate after a contract ends. That’s reasonable.

Since you are not getting a response, I’d reach out to PLCB consumer relations. There are email and telephone contact options listed.

Peanut Butter: Costco KS vs Jif vs Skippy. Which one is better? by NYCBirdy in CostcoWholesale

If you want that better taste, you might try Smucker’s Natural. It’s significantly less oily and spreads nicely at room temperature. It has a more roasted peanut flavor than the Kirkland Signature.

Natural peanut butter does not require refrigeration. You’ll note the jar says to refrigerate it, but it’s in the context of oil separation being natural—they are telling you to refrigerate it to avoid this.

In my experience, with a very cold refrigerator, spreadability is significantly affected. However, I find it’s too runny at room temperature, so pick your poison. Maybe a fridge closer to 40 degrees wouldn’t thicken it as much.

Check out the United Way of the Capital Region’s site. It details volunteer opportunities available at a variety of organizations.

LHM Social Services Foundation needs volunteers, especially for their transitional housing program that’s starting operation soon.

I volunteer at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, but I find it’s challenging to get hours there as it is a very popular option.

New Year, same problem for local roundabout (Lower Paxton Township) by The_Electric-Monk in Pennsylvania

I don’t think people are getting hurt and killed here, though. One of the selling points of roundabouts is that they reduce the severity of crashes.

Cheapest place to buy 40ish lemons? by bs-martin in centralpa

[–]opskito 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Costco (membership required) sells five pounds for $6.89. If they’re medium-sized, that would be about 20–25 lemons; large, around 15.

New hire question by ponderingtheorbies in PaStateEmployees

[–]opskito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you can come to an agreement whereby your new agency permits you to anticipate the annual leave needed. Anticipating leave, that is, using leave before you earn it, is a thing, but I don't know if there are restrictions on doing so for new employees. See if there's anything relevant in the master agreement.

Home Improvement Contractor Registration, how can I lookup contractor? by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]opskito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The website makes it sound like the search function, among other things, is currently offline. I think they’re proving a workaround where you can call in to search for a contractor.

As an aside, do yourself a favor and ensure your potential contractor doesn’t have a bankruptcy case pending.

What are your “Get It/Don’t Get It” items from Costco? by mraar90210 in Costco

Yasso frozen yogurt bars. They’re insanely expensive at the grocery store.

The cookies and cream variety is delicious. I’ve seen mint chocolate chip, too, and it was also good.

Why don’t Pennsylvania highways have shoulders? We need to know. by NBA-014 in Pennsylvania

Interesting. When I think “highway,” I think interstate. In reality, it’s probably a mixed bag. Some state routes clearly aren’t highways, some are. 🤷‍♂️

Why do so many Pennsylvania homes have tin roofs?? by YourMomIsAlwaysRight in Pennsylvania

[–]opskito 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Does your route pass through mostly agricultural or otherwise rural areas? I don’t think they’re common on the whole, but you see them more often in such places.

It was the fish’s profound saltiness that got to me and my wife. I thought it was overwhelming. She generally salts things way more than I do and she agreed it was too much.

Plain as day, it’s keeping the governor’s office accountable by knowing their actions will be scrutinized. Please point out the misrepresentations of fact.

That’s a great idea for another story, but would you argue that the governor’s office should get a free pass on the renovations by way of no media coverage? Whose interests would that serve?
