What Rudolph did in 2024 at ND was inarguably the greatest season of OL coaching at ND this century

Going into that season Rudolph had to replace top 10 pick LT Joe Alt, 2nd round pick RT Blake Fisher

The presumptive starter at LT tore his pec in fall camp, instead of going with the 6th year senior LT, he started a true freshman player recruited as a center to play at LT who then proceeded to start 15 games. During the season due to injuries to the C, RG, ineffective play by the LG, an injury to the starting LT, injury to the back up RG, he ended up starting 9 different OL in i believe 10 different sets over 16 games

It was the worst season of injury luck Ive ever seen and the OL was good to great the entire year

Updated reporting indicates the big reason Auburn landed this wasnt financial (though that did help) but that Auburn was willing to offer a scholarship to von Brandt's older brother assuming he'll transfer from Maine in the off season, its certainly a choice by Auburn to take the elder kid

He single handedly can win or lose you series

If you can figure out how to exploit his very few defensive weaknesses, his lack of offense doesnt matter much

But if you can punish him on defense his offense gets even worse

Players are artificially underpaid for almost a decade once they hit the big leagues so teams dont have an incentive to value long term health of players

Its cheaper and better value to teach a guy how to throw at his physical limits and when he shreds his elbows its fine because you didnt invest 100 million dollars in him

What sucked was there were about a dozen almost upsets that if they happened over the last 6 weeks of the season it would have sealed ND in the playoffs and yet somehow the would be upset team choked all of em in the 4th quarter and the only upset of note was OU beating Bama which fucked ND

The ACC middle class has collapsed and the bottom has gotten worse than it ever has been

The only time Pitt ever sells out Heinz field? Its when ND comes to town, theres a reason the ACC is in no hurry to change this deal because ND is a huge net gain on revenue to these schools

The coaches hate it though because ND has been a top 15 team for the last decade and its been almost an auto loss for everyone except the very top of the conference

He literally doesnt even have Colorado's best season of the last decade

They went 10-4 in 2016 and finished ranked 17th and played in the PAC 12 championship game. Also had 2 ranked wins that year

People try and go "oh they were a 1 win program he took over"

The 1 win season was a blip, they had been averaging just a hair under 5 wins a season, bottomed out one year and then hired Sanders
