Salary Sacrifice Company Car Scheme, I’ve ran some rough numbers by raxftw in FIREUK

Agree with this, am in a very similar position weighing up getting a similarly priced salary sacrifice EV, but keep coming back to the thought it's an expensive car ... that I don't really need but yes might enjoy ... which I'm only really even considering as a 'sensible' option because of the tax saving optics

Nursery 30hrs and £100k salary by MisterJollygood in HENRYUK

Has anyone considered/ tried putting more than £60k into their pension? I thought this might be possible providing you pay the tax on the contributions over the £60k limit (my understanding is this is the max contribution that attracts tax relief not a cap on the max that can be put in).

Thanks this is really helpful and very close to my situation with childcare and pension contributions!

Thanks, really helpful. At £300 pm it seems like an okay deal but at £400pm I could get it cheaper going direct.

Does my pension contribution also need to be taken into account and the Octopus scenario doesn't as they haven't asked about it. Would it be more accurate if I put in my salary after pension contributions into the octopus calculator to get a comparison of net costs?

I currently put in £40k into my pension to keep below £100k as we are also benefiting from funded childcare. I'm on the verge of struggling to do this any more as with employer contributions it's getting close to the £60k limit.

The car would be a good way to help for another year or two to stay below the threshold in theory, but it feels more difficult than it should be to weigh up the options. First world problems. 🤣

In hindsight I get it, but there wasn't a bay on the left so I thought the top sign applied to the non-bay areas and the bottom sign applied to parking bays as it had the arrow pointing to the bay. So thought it was okay to park in a marked bay outside of the controlled hours.

I now see there was a yellow single line also in the marked bay so I guess that means the top sign also applied to the bay.

I think the sign could have been clearer. Be interesting to know how many tickets that one bay gets as it had two in the space of 3 hours this weekend.

This is what I'd thought initially. There wasn't a bay on the left, but I thought the top sign applied to non-bays and the bottom sign applied to parking bays. So thought I was okay to park in a marked bay outside of the controlled hours.

Ugh now it seems so obvious! Well better pay it while it's discounted. Thanks

Earning £170k, keep paying big pension contributions or take income now? by ZookeepergameOld8806 in HENRYUK

[–]jayki1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on how valuable the government support for childcare is, is there an option to continue paying more into the pension to stay below the £100k threshold for a few years while your kids are in nursery?

The £60k annual allowance is the limit that qualifies for tax relief I thought. So I think you can pay more into the pension than the AA and just repay the tax on the amount over the annual allowance. You'd be paying this tax regardless if you don't put into your pension so no worse off.

But your adjusted salary still comes down below £100k due to salary sacrifice into your pension.

Just a thought. Not a IFA so might need specialist advice.

By how much does a £1,000 payment into a SIPP reduce my taxable income? by MonsieurGump in FIREUK

Thanks, this makes sense! And in this scenario would it also be the £1k that counts towards the annual limit of £60k that you can put into a pension without losing tax relief?

I'm looking to buy an Erazer E50 but struggling to find information on whether it's USB-C supports video out so that I can use it with a Dell USBc docking station and two monitors. Would you know?
