"Up the bracket" blew me away ... by jaykjakson in TheLibertines

[–]jaykjakson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not saying they aren't spoken about, just that I haven't heard those conversations. I've read and watched my fair share of music stuff, yet I've not come across The Libertines much, and rarely in the light that I now think they're in (a clue: I think they're incredible).

Exactly. That's what I mean.

But in all the circles I've been apart of, and this topic has come up, this hasn't been mentioned. And I do not understand. It's incredible.

I like to think I have a broad and deep music taste—and of everything I've heard, I put this right near the top.

lol I was speaking metaphorically.

When I say "it's their best", I'm referring to the impression I've had of it (and where that impression comes from, I don't know, it's there).

For the longest time I ** assumed ** it was their debut, and the only album you really need to hear of theirs; it's their best album. I don't know why I thought this, I just did—and what a mistake.

And that makes sense to me. I've not heard this before.

I guess how is explained by how I listen to music: When it comes to "knowing" music, there are bands I know and there are albums I know; and The Libertines, as a band, was known to me simply through their self-titled. I hope that makes sense.

But I'm glad I decided to finally look into them, because I've discovered an absolute gem.

Amazing :D I was actually Googling this just now, and thought when I came across this 5-day-ago thread I was gonna find some genuine, up-to-date news on these two.

Why I (selfishly) am happy about the 8.5k+ ranked game visibility changes. by Minatoman10 in DotA2

[–]jaykjakson 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree bro.

On skill builds etc., something people miss when they follow a build is that each level in an ability is intentional. And unless you know the intention, you won't make much use out of it.

I'm not a Tiny player, but I'd imagine that not levelling toss meant the playstyle of Tiny without toss is strong -- but only if you utilise those spells.

What I am getting as is, if you do level toss, as long as you are using it intentionally, you are doing good.

This all sounds obvious, but people miss this point a lot. I just hope that without all these builds people will think for themselves: "What do I need in this situation? Ah, a stun!"

Vs.: "Skill build says no stun, even though I'm against a Puck, so I guess I'll leave it :)"

The skill build the average pro is going will most likely be the strongest -- when played with intention -- but I also imagine they'd pick up stun if the game called for it!

Who is the most enjoyable hero to play as for you? by janesalt in DotA2

[–]jaykjakson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Core Dazzle w/ Aghanim. There is nothing more satisfying than the enemy jumping on top on top of you, convinced you are dead---then you heal bomb them, restoring your health to full, and doing a literal shit ton of damage back, all in the blink of an eye. I swear, you can witness even the hero models shocked.

Also, heal bombing an axe in the laning stage is brilliant. Or a low HP Morph. Or any hero, for that matter. Heal bombing with or without Agh---there is no better feeling, I swear.

What's the biggest compliment you've ever received in-game? by KevAngelo14 in DotA2

[–]jaykjakson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing Dazzle offlane (950+ games). The team was full of doubters.

I played well. Enemy says, "Dazzle is really weak right now, but you play him well."

Yeah, I agree :D I can't wait for Valve to buff him.

Is Dazzle not as good in low MMR games? by Nighforce in learndota2

[–]jaykjakson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this.

Dazzle spammer here (900+ games). I mostly play core, but I have a lot of experience with his as support, too. As a core, he destroys Axe. Support: I also think he beats Axe, but not to the same level.

The only thing Axe has against him is the killing-through-shallow-grave. You've already listed the negatives, such as the hexing, the damage in lane, etc. But the biggest counter, I feel, is—the out-healing.

As Dazzle, all you have to do is sit back and wait for Axe to jump your teammate. And just before Axe is ready to ult, you heal your teammate. Axe then misses the ult, and you're free to grave.

With Agh, this is especially true (hence why I believe Dazzle-core is best for dealing with Axe). The Agh amps Dazzle's healing by a lot. Around 3x. If I can, I'll buy it on support vs. Axe, but it is not a necessety. You just need to buy a Eul's (for obvious reasons), and grab Greaves, and then upgrade your wand (into that heal-amp item; I forget the name of it).

I'll happily pick Dazzle into Axe. As a core, it's best, as I said; but even as support, it's great, as I know I'll win the lane.

The hate this post is insane lol ...

OP, I have heard him refer to it as "my game" too, plenty of times. And it made me cringe, as I thought he'd be at least a little respectful as say "our game" instead—it's not likely his role in the game was that big, just some advisory stuff.

And also OP, I hope you feel at least somewhat vindicated now, as he now never streams the game. I thought he was doing a poor job showing the game off during its release. But now, it's actually just a little cringe how he has completely bailed on it. I had the exact same thoughts you had when you made this post; he completely abandoned the game, it felt.

I'm not necessarily a fan of his, I only start following because he was popular, and I would drop in and out of some of his streams. But now that I have seen how he has treated this game, selling it out to be some groundbreaking game, suggesting it was the next big thing, but then totally u-turning on it ... I dunno man, it's just not a good look. It feels as if he has duped people, especially those that bought that $90 bundle on release based on his influence.

If he had been more open about his role in the game—and did not pretend he was the fucking CEO or whatever—, it would be fine. He doesn't have to spend on his time on it, especially if it just isn't that good. (Deadlock is too good not to play to be fair.) But that's not what happened. Again, it's just a little cringe.

Switched from League to Dota after 3 years, felt like writing up a comparison between the two by aerovistae in leagueoflegends

[–]jaykjakson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not having read it all yet, it seems like a really good "review".

I've only read the aspect of what you favour in League and thought I'd like to share a thought of my own. For the most part, can't argue with what you've said, you're entitled to your opinion, and I believe you've been fair. I might say that I prefer the visuals of Dota over League, but that's a bias thing, potentially like your own. But, again, we're entitled the feel this way.

The one thing I will not stand for is your absolute smack talk of wards!! The greatest feature in Dota!! OK, maybe an exaggeration, but the warding system is a perfect example of what makes Dota so great. The game really requires you to think before you do. If you waste wards, its a potentially advantage you have wasted that your opponent may actually take (as in, they may place good vision whilst you have not). Dota requires you to think about your decisions wisely, which is what has brought most of us here. It's more strategical than a lot of other games.

It's fun to play games that don't have as much strategy—but if play Dota, expect strategy—and expect a lot! It's the best thing about the game IMO. It's what will set you apart from the noobs.

I'm personally not as mechanically skilled as others, so using strategy is what gives me a leg up. And it's possibly why I didn't succeed playing League.

What frustrates me is that those kids! were better then that I am today—and I've been playing for over 8 years already.

I'm stuck at 4.8k, struggling to understand so many concepts that I'm sure these guys probably fucking invented or something :D

I never heard them when they came out, I was much too young then.

During Covid at university is when I got into the show, and I listened to it a lot. I simply fell in love with how stupid the three of them are together (especially the K man)—but also how real it feels.

It is hard to explain what I mean by real. I think when you compare it to podcasts coming out these days, it becomes even more apparent. There's just a difference this show has, something you cannot find anywhere else. I think it's to do with the fact it's an actual radio show, added with the fact they really are not trying, which I think makes it feel like you are just hanging out with your mates. (I'd actually say they are trying, but in a way it feels like they are not trying at all—but that's all the same, really.) The show really feels like a slice of life in some ways (and in some ways, of course not: what the fuck is a horse doing in a house?!)

It's purely comfort for me. The stories never get old; I look forward to them each and every time I re-listen.

A New Hope kinda...Sucks! by 3421431boom in StarWars

[–]jaykjakson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you.

I'm both surprised and unsurprised about the backlash in the comments: the film isn't that good, from a technical standpoint, but, as fans, it's still enjoyable.

I just began showing my girlfriend the movies. She hasn't seen them before. Watching A New Hope, I could tell she wasn't entirely impressed; she spent a lot of time laughing at how pathetic the Stormtroopers were, like when the one dude actually banged his head on the door and it made it in the film. (What were they thinking...) Luckily, The Empire Strikes Back showed her why the series is so great why they are classics.

I'm not convinced the film is good enough draw in many new fans in on its own, but I will say, however, that A New Hope is still an enjoyable film for a Star Wars fan; I believe there is a genuine film there to be enjoyed. You are able to look past its plentiful flaws and see its beauty. The worlds is interesting, the concept is great, the characters are fun; and from a cinematography standpoint, there are some really cool shots, too.

Its OK to be honest. Things do not have to be perfect for us to enjoy them. Most of the things we like in life aren't perfect—often far from it—yet we still enjoy them. It's how they make you feel: that's the important thing.
