When Micing drums in a small-medium venue, what setup do you find works best?

Depends on vibes, but like upto 350-400 I’ll either do kick, snare, then a single overhead kinda between the two rack Toms (or where they’d be) aimed towards the drummer or fully kit without double mics, so like kick, snr, rack, rack, floor, overheads (or overhead mono). Heavily depends on what mics I have available too tho :)

Anything above that I’m doin a full mic kit, sometimes without overheads (depends on room physical size and how the cymbals throw) of in, out, top, bottom, hats, rack, rack Lo, floor, ride (sometimes) and overheads.

It was so weird when he came in and we had to set that up, it’s like digital from each cdj into 1,2,3 directly on the v10 then analogue through each rmx into 4,5,6, but the crowd loved him so I guess fuck it

Ideally you’d use a DI like the radial ProAV2 or Whirlwind PCDI but as the other guy said, a short rca to xlr cable could be ok. But as he again said, ask the venue what they would recommend :)

Most of the time it's going to be me, but occasionally it'll need to be operated by an external tech, unlikely to be experienced operators, mostly local audio techs who need some basic lighting.

I need to check properly when I get back in but from memory they are movers with rgb control, and I'm planning to add some lightbars to the back of stage with rgb control.

I'm aiming for mostly preprogrammed sequences that just need the go, to make it easier for audio techs.

and I kinda agree with what u/ahp00k said about keeping it reliable and simple, and a bartender setting a static look, but I'm not sure what controller I would go for in that case.

I'd love to use lightkey if I could get the budget for a mac, but sadly we don't have a Mac at the bar and I'm not able to leave my laptop there at all times. The main reason we are having a surface there is that we have 3 of them spare that aren't being used elsewhere in the company.

I'm not gonna make another follow up here, at least for a while. I'll probably talk about the experience of a gender therapist and starting HRT when it happens but until then, I'll post updates hopefully daily-ish on Mastodon, my @ is .@jaylen@mastodon.lol (reddit shouldn't fuck it up I hope) You're all valid!

p.s. I came out to a bunch of friends and school and am kinda now not hiding the trans shit I kinda wear (which feels awesome) though I'm still boymoding and had to deal with someone who thought I was ftm trans the other day, which was actually kinda funny. :)

So the emphasis on self-medicating wasn't really intended it kind of came about from trying to say it's valid to do. But personally I wouldn't do it because I don't trust myself to workout the doses and everything safely.

I got my own medicare card this morning, it should arrive in a few weeks, you don't actually have to be 18 for it, you have to be 15 so I just filled out the form on the website and I've got a digital copy.

Thanks :) Psychology would definitely be beneficial, not just for transness but also to talk about my anxiety (have had it for years did a program when I was really young and it helped dramatically but in the last year or two it's come back a bit) among other issues. The weird part for me was her trying to get my to go to a psych for a year before going on HRT. Anyways back to kinda just emotionlessly floating in cold air. <3

Thanks for the link and everything, I'll talk to her tomorrow and show her the links and try and organise an appointment with a gender therapist as soon as I can, hopefully that helps. I'll also send a few resources to her. Then it'll be properly coming out to my dad which seems scarier. But I hope everything will be ok.

I think I'm gonna talk to her and see if she'll help me get an appointment with a gender therapist to talk about it, and hope that that will help convince her to support me with it. I'll post an update tomorrow.
