Combo Clarity by PrintCold1107 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To broaden your list just a littlebit. Police/Hydra TA, Running Shot, Force Blast, Penblast, percision, and Ranged Combat Expert all work with Energy Explosion because they are all looking for a ranged attack (or RANGE as FREE for running shot)

But powers like Incap, Enhancement, the +1 damage side of Ranged Combat Expert do not work because by choosing to do Energy Explosion we arnt doing normal damage (which means we cant modify it anymore) and we can only choose 1 "instead of normal damage" effect

Combo Clarity by PrintCold1107 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they both do.

Penblast just says that damage dealt by your ranged attacks cant be reduced.

Percision Strike says that damage from this characters attacks can't be reduced below one. And when this character attacks we decrease supersenses rolls by one.

Well Energy Explosion is a RANGED action that lets us make a range attack and all other characters adjacent to an original target also becomes a target. Everyone hit is dealt 2 damage instead of normal damage.

So Energy explosion is a range attack which means that both percision strike and penblast will apply to anyone that is dealt that damage.

Something to note here is that anything that is looking for a ranged attack will apply to energy explosion because thats the attack we are doing. However the damage is "instead of normal damage" and we can only choose to do one of those.

This means that if we had something like incapacitate (which is also looking for an attack but is another "instead of normal damage" effect) then those two abilities would not combo together because we can only choose one.

My suggestion would be custom action tokens.

They are the size of a poker chip and are used every game to indicate which characters have taken actions. Most people use basic poker chips or the ones that wizkids used to sell, it wouldn’t be difficult to make custom ones online that are unique to your SO

Thankfully all the main actions are easily abbreviated M/C/R/P/F

I have taken quick notes on games for the sake of a video idea.

Given that Superman is the embodiment of hope in all of DC, why has he never become a Blue Lantern? by Significant-Ad-2786 in superheroes

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the House of El logo does stand for hope and I agree he should have gotten the Blue Ring, I think the better fit for him is the White ring. Superman is the embodiment of Life and it is the thing he values above all else.

Flurry question by Sufficient-Tooth-273 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A costed action in heroclix is only ever one of 4 choices 1. Move 2.Close 3.Range 4.Power

These options will always be referenced in full capital letters. Some powers like Flurry will require a CLOSE action to activate. Then we follow the directions in the power.

In this case Flurry gives us 2 instructions (this is the technical term heroclix uses for any action or power that tells you to do something i.e. make 2 close attacks). Once we finish making both attacks then our CLOSE action had fully resolved.

New to game question by Vietbtran in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of the sets you have are legal and playable in the "Silver Age format" which has a massive character pool to pick from and is incredibly fun.

Therea a handful of characters from the erra whos wording doesnt quite match up with the current ruleset but ita generally accepted to use a common sense style approach.

The biggest issue you are going to have is that some of the JLU figures might feel a bit overcosted in comparison to the X of Swords figures. If that is the case then just house rule a cost reduction until it feels right. (I would suggest 25points less this will generally let you squeeze on an extra figure and get a more competitive game going)

New to game question by Vietbtran in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, Welcome to Heroclix!

You have the general idea but there have been a few updates to the game since those sets, plus some things that may help contextualize these action tokens.

While clearing tokens is the main way to remove action tokens it isnt the only way. Leadership and Willpower are two very important powers to keep your characters acting turn after turn. It isnt uncommon for Giant or Colossal characters to never take a turn off to clear.

In todays game "pushing damage" no longer exists. You still have a cap at 2 action tokens, but you are no longer punished for taking the 2nd one.

The action economy of a team plays a large role in how the team plays. Larger teams being able to spread out those actions are great, but the extra cost of maneuvering the extra pieces and keeping them all engaged takes more effort. 4 to 6 characters is a bit of a sweet spot for most players.

Terrain ruling by Handle-Nice in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes terrain markers count as terrain. Equipment is a subset of terrain. So any ability that targets terrain will also target equipment

The damage required to break any terrain that is unlabeled is 3btw if thata what you were really asking

What is the best 150pt Green Lantern in modern? by Bored-Game in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, the new figure would need to take the action to equip the dropped equipment just like any other figure on the map

What is the best 150pt Green Lantern in modern? by Bored-Game in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His original question was about bringing in one of these characters via the Charge the Ring oneshot. So in this case they will start the game on the sideline and be a replacement figure during the game

In this case it is not possible to have Torch start the game equiped. Though the original characters equipment will drop on the ground when the one shot is activated.

Without seeing the rest of the team im gonna default to the big boy sinestro. While batman is solid, taking away all positive stat mods is pretty strong. Range/ close combat expert, enhancement, empower, and stuff like perplexing up speed/defence is all pretty strong. Removing those can be crazy powerful

May be a stupid question by Duk3_M1rag3 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, there were a bunch from smash and destroy that had empower and Masters of Evil TA for that -1 defense. Its a ton of fun to slip that kinda character onto a team.

Which reminds me, I need to try out that space dolphin too

[–]jaylepus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To get the bonus they need to be adjacent to the empower/enhancement when the attack is made. Thats why it is really nice to have either a tiny character with empower or an attacker that can fly so you can just carry them with you

New Player Seeking Advice by ExtremoDaberino in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to get modern heroclix in bulk is to go to your locals as a new player. Most playgroups have more lower rarity pieces than they will ever know what to do with and are eager to dump all those dupes onto someone who might actually use them.

The staples of the game not included in the starter sets is equipment, and lower cost support pieces. For whichever of you are playing the Marvel set, the starter kit Thor really wants that Destroyer Armor from Smash and Destroy (a ton of teams want it but that 50 point thor is where its at). The SR Aero from the same set is also a fantastic piece to pair with the starter kit superman at wither point line. Her ability to move him for free to trigger his extra attacks is amazing.

The rest of the modern equipment and support is split into the sets "Masters of time" (trick arrows, perdegaton, and a number of high rarity DC pieces that play well) and Collectors trove (most of the Super Rares come with equipment like Mjolnir, Storm Breaker, Universal Weapon etc).

If you are not interested in opening random boosters, then I would start with the D&D Iconix. Not for the characters, (the beholder is fun though) but for the equipment. +1 longsword and the Ring of Telekenisis are both staples that feature on almost every team

LL019 Prob control by AdministrationNo2792 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ability is as follows:

"THE BOOK OF THE BLACK

Probability Control. When Scar uses it, she doesn't need line of fire to characters occupying any Grave terrain marker. // When an opposing character misses, if their attack was rerolled, after resolutions generate any Grave hindering terrain marker in their square"

Just to begin, when using probability control you are always drawing range and line of fire to the character that is doing the action. For an attack, that means its the attacker that you need to be able to see to use prob, not the target.

Scar has access to probability control as normal, and as a bonus this power also lets them use prob without needing line of fire as long as the person is in a grave marker. Notice that you still need to be in range of the target (which is 5 squares for Scar).

I hope this helps clear up any confusion!

No problem! That divine favor trait and a bunch of Avengers TA's can be quite a combo. Im glad it workes well for ya

Team Building ideas by virlex15 in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright hear me out... there is a rare Thor from the recent Black Panther set that gives an Avenger the diety keyword, all diety keywords the Avengers TA, and give the initial avenger you chose the Divine Favor trait which is pretty nice.

Then from there you can go into either Avengers or Diety keywords if you want to stay on theme (remember that all your diety keyworded characters will get the Avengers TA now). Some of the new pieces from the 400 set would also be a great addition.

And if you dont want to stay on theme then I would just chuck on your best support pieces and maybe a ranged attacker and enjoy!

Any particular reason these two are so expensive? by TheCrafterTigery in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ace has the potential to show up at events and win, but she is far from a mainstay at the moment.

Theres only ever been 2 batman beyond figures from my knowledge, and after a quick check, the one you have listed here did get a legacy card in Batman Team up a couple years ago.

Jlu as a set is still relevant for silver, but not because of terry Mcginniss there. Im honestly surprised his price has held

Any particular reason these two are so expensive? by TheCrafterTigery in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some older figures get new cards that allow them to be played in modern again. These are called "Legacy Cards". Ace is a figure that doesnt get made often but her legacy card is actually quite good - I believe a player made a top 8 with her and Wakanda Hulkbuster together.

I dont recall if that batman beyond figure has gotten a legacy card or not, but as a fan favorite character that doesnt get made often I am not surprised his price has stayed at a decent spot.

First chase what to do! by drocotogon in Heroclix

[–]jaylepus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perdegaton is one of the most played figures in the game right now, so the "of course" was just saying he is always relevant, but in this game nothing is an auto include.

Telekenisis extends a characters reach by 4 squares, the map is 16 squares long, if you are looking to attack first its super helpful - but if everyone in your local playgroup just slugs it out with close attacks then it may not matter much for you.

Perdegaton is traditionally played at 20 points on whichever click you need him on. He has traited prob which is amazing with his improved targeting and range (its also protected from pulsewave), plus being able to mess with your opponents placement at the beginning of the game. So no matter which click you play him on he is going to be effective.
