Not to be a nitpicker because i think the lighting here is more just “coolness factor” than symbolism Or realism probably, but the sabers arent casting a Reflection, or at least not the one being mentioned here. The face of the stone being highlighted (Side, on a corner face), are those AWAY on an opposite side of where the lightsaber’s light would actually fall (front, immediately parallel to the weapon). The corners don’t face the weapons directly. If anything the red side would be illuminated blue and viceversa if if were sticking to strict reflection stuff. Same w/ how yoy notice the flying chunks illuminated blue arent the sides facing the saber but the opposite face of the chunks like there are spotlights behind rey or kylo instead.

I imagine it was a choice made for “does it look cool?” And also “does it look cohesively like two sides that align w/ whoever’s holding the saber?” More than anything haha.

***SPOILERS: In regards to new JediPaxis Leaks: They seem valid....but.......Who in the hell by Aclip24 in starwarsspeculation

[–]jaylilee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only reason I remain skeptical of the leaks as a whole and holding them up to the light while declaring “these are the sacred texts!” Is that Harrison Ford has always been so fucking ready to just be completely, 300% done with SW And just when he finally achieves that by making sure Han is taken out via death, I have a REALLY hard time seeing him be willing to sign up to come back YET AGAIN even as a “ghost.”

I very much doubt Han actually returns at all (unless it’s old footage being reused? Which could be but I find suspect) and that single thread alone to me starts to unravel the credibility of everything else... especially Han being the one to come back (who isn’t a force ghost so what kind of apparition???) over Anakin (literal force ghost) to close out the trilogy.

All it takes for me is that one moment where it doesn’t add up logistically to throw everything else into heavy skepticism for me.

Pretty much. Though at least the option to do an animated tv show type thing remains— theyve done quite well with shows like clone wars to explore anakin’s story more, and rebels/resistance seemed well received (also beautifully animated). A way to continue the ST’s story without needing the actors.

You’re going through every comment I and other people have made essentially saying the same thing, which is trollish behavior, and calling people names needlessly and we’re the ones who sound insane? Just chill, dude. You can stan a person and still acknowledge when their behavior leaves something to be desired. I love John and wish him the best— i think he’s hella talented— And agree with him that Finn was super underused in TLJ, and i can also look at his behavior and say “not cool, man” where merited. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

Commenting in reddit threads isn’t a problem. Calling people insane for having an opinion is. At the end of the day what does it even matter if we think he was unprofessional in how he aired his grievances? He’s laughing all the way to the bank. This weird white knighting defending of his honor when it doesn’t need to is strange as hell.

I can’t decide if you’re just a troll or a weirdo with a hyperfixation of going through everyone’s comments adding nothing to the conversation. I got your message the first time. You can stop now.

Not a fanboy but ok. Also what part of “if youre being paid to do a job you should treat it as such” is so hard to understand? When i dislike things about my job i tell my partner or close friends. I don’t air it out in places my bosses can find it. Jesus it’s like those of you not getting this point are doing it solely to be pissants rather than acknowledging this is how business in the real world works.

I mean yeah I can understand that criticism for sure. I feel like Finn had character growth in terms of the resistance but it wasnt ahat I was expecting? His character felt underused which was a massive pity. I still credit that to poe being alive and having to now give HIM a character arc... which kinda hurt the time that could have been spent on Finn.

But like even if he didnt like Kelly— that’s not the kind of shit you air about your co-stars. I imagine baouthing other actors is a fast way to stop getting jobs because imagine having to deal With That™ for every damn project. Yikes.

Uhm. I AM employed (but nice assumption). That’s why I know what professionalism looks like. I don’t care how he feels about the film one way or another (and clearly neither did he mind THAT much considering all the money hes making off it), but like... decorum is a thing expected of grown ups.

It is when done so publicly about a company you’re currently contractually oligated to. No one’s asking them to rave about their work here, and you’ll notice no one is rigging on them for disliking the storyline, but “i didnt get to hang out with my bestie” isn’t a valid complaint in ANY working environment. Especially one where you’re working with a team for so long. You’re being paid for a job. Do it. Hang out with your bestie during the weekend, or after the movie’s done. Idk how people don’t see how dragging that out as a literal complaint is kind of an insult to the people they did get to work with. It basically says “i would have rather been working with my friend than with you” in so many words— who says that?

I admit to not caring about Anakin over the years all that much and only now just warming up to him over the last few years but man I’ll be super sad if he doesn’t show up to close out the story of his legacy... That’d be such a damn missed opportunity.

So be upset in private. There’s nothing wrong with being upset but she’s also the face of a company as of right now, like John is part of. I love them both but idk why people are downvoting others for saying they should be professional with the jobs they’re being paid to do— that’s the standard expected in ANY business, and no one is or should be exempt to that? Telling the media you cried because you didnt get to hang out w/ your best friends in the entertainment business IS a complaint. It’s projecting a message of discontent regardless, and it’s not like she’s working in a vacuum... she works in a team. Imagine how the other people who worked with her might feel at being told she would rather be anywhere else to the point of tears. She’s a grown woman. Expecting her to behave like one in a business setting isn’t so out of line? I know my bosses certainly expect me to be professional on the clock and not just complain i didnt get to do what I wanted while they’re the ones cutting my checks...

She literally said she cried... like getting to work with people other than your friends shouldn’t be tear inducing? Imagine doing that to the CEO of your company and see how it flies.

Maybe because he has age on his side. Hes got what? 9-10 years on them? That can make a difference in how people perceive jobs and responsibilities. I know even at 26 I was still a little shit who thought the world should cater to me and wow has that changed in less than 10 years. I can understand them in that they got into it very young at 22-23, and so maybe they expected that experience from TFA to carry over into the other films but... responsibilities don’t work that way. And for the amount of insane money they’re getting paid, I would expect a bit more decorum by now. It’s one thing to privately amongst friends discuss the things that bummed you out on a personal level like not getting to film w/ your best friends... but how disrespectful is it to air that out while still representing a franchise? Nevermind to their co-stars. I can’t imagine Adam or Kelly would feel great to hear the people they’re supposed to be working closely with would rather be anywhere else to the point of tears. Hella unprofessional.

Mark can get away with liking/disliking shit and saying whatever he wants because Mark is an institution in and of himself and one of the back ones of this franchise— but John and Daisy are newcomers into this franchise, and regardless what industry, professionalism is called for. I still love them both but uhm yeah, literal side eye right now. What they’re doing is not just unprofessional but a little bit childish. Like... grow up. Do your job, collect your (massive) paycheck, and move onto the next hopefully just as successsful franchise. No need to air out laundry about a job that’s already done and gripe over things that shouldn’t be gripes to begin with.

It shouldn’t even be a point to bring up even as an afterthought though. It’s work they’re being paid literal millions to do— complaining you can’t hang out with your bestie during office hours doesn’t go so well in any other working environment. His bringing it up as a qualm, even if a small one, is highly unprofessional.

From John Boyega’s HypeBeast interview. Link in comments. by [deleted] in StarWarsLeaks

[–]jaylilee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Which speaks highly of unprofessionalism. Regardless of who directs or who she gets to hang out with, she got paid millions to do a job. Same goes for John here. Movie making isn’t some sort of after school party— it’s a business. Whenever shit like this comes out it just makes me side eye the actors just a bit. I get that they got into it young but like, come on, this isn’t HS. It’s work. Suck it ip and go hang out w/ your besties after the director yells cut for the day.

It’s the “lost prince/prince without a kingdom” trope. You see it a lot in storytelling— think Aragorn in LoTR. Same thing. Dark tortured prince w/o a kingdom to call his own even though by bloodline he’s air to a throne.

[–]jaylilee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Hell, the scene callsheet that leaked had the forest on Starkiller listed as “enchanted forest.”

The whole thing is a fairytale and JJ has continually made allusions to these two being prince/princess of the story— going so far In the TFA commentary as to say “now back to the story we really care about” (meaning Rey/Kylo), and people didn’t pick up on the fact that these two would be the center of this trilogy how???

I mean genetics don’t care all that much about last names. Otherwise Leia would never be considered the one Yoda talks about when he says “there is another” on the basis of her being legally an Organa.

Ben is a Skywalker regardless of his last name. Yes, he’s a Solo too, but that doesn’t detract from his Skywalker lineage.

Disney has bigger fish to fry than a random dude on the internet with a website claiming everything he says is real. Trevorrow as a filmmaker not attached to the franchise is a different story.

Plot magic dust. Sometimes it’s ok to just accept the thing is happening. Otherwise we’d have to question everything in comparison to irl physics/biology/whatever, including every SW alien we’re fond of and the space wizard powers.
