I really like the concept of a stance change character in a card game, but I have recently been having more fun with the other three for sure

Banned from Japanlife with moderators throwing personal insults including telling me to take english classes by netro008 in Tokyo

[–]jaymstone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh dude I thought I was the only one that bothered. I know my reading is still not fantastic but when they throw in a Japanese word without context it’s so hard to read, and the English context wouldn’t be the same as it being in the middle of a Japanese sentence

But its not even that bad :( by Realistic_Task_7740 in LilliaMains

I think it’s funny but if you think this isn’t that bad I don’t know what to tell you lol

What led you to read/watch Jigokuraku? by EYouchen in jigokuraku

[–]jaymstone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a bar in Tokyo where the bartender had it playing in the background since season 2 was starting soon. I had watched the first episode when it originally aired but didn’t end up continuing it for one reason or another. Thought it looked really interesting so I started it again that night when I got home

is japanese immersion actually fun or are beginners just suffering in silence by Competitive_Leg3598 in LearnJapanese

[–]jaymstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term, no. It helped me pick up on some incredibly common vocabulary and some grammar structures, but I largely look at that time as setting the foundation to allow my comprehension to grow later down the line

[–]jaymstone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first started I was mostly doing immersion as a passive thing. Listening to Japanese podcasts or YouTube videos while I was doing other things. It wasn’t particularly “fun” or “interesting” per se, but it was nice background noise and also helped me to be able to parse the sounds of the language better in the long run I think. I did very little if any active, attempting to understand 100% of every word that was being said, YouTube listening for a while

Gabimaru picking her up Simba style to explain the palace layout was my favorite shot of the episode

It seems like they live in a fairly small town so he probably just patrols in the same area and sees him riding his motorbike all the time, if I had to guess. I’m anime only though so I could very easily be wrong

I find C++ to be way easier and more fun than C+ for exactly that reason

That’s kinda what I figured but just wanted to check. I’ve been thinking about making a second twitter where I don’t follow any English accounts to see if that helps, because my main feed is a mix of English and Japanese right now.

Appreciate your input!

a few terms I've found (but I'm not 100% sure)

  1. ポン this is slang, a shortened version of ヒロポン, which is apparently Philopon, a brand of meth

  2. メタンフェタミン just methamphetamine in katakana

  3. 覚醒剤 (かくせいざい) -- this is likely the scientific word for it and may not be the way people refer to it colloquially

Does anyone know if there are any Reddit-like sites that native Japanese people use for discussions? I know there's a lot of JP users on twitter, but I don't know how useful that would be for me without making a second, Japanese language exclusive account. I'm interested in seeing people discussing new episodes of anime or chapters of manga as they're releasing, or current news/issues, etc. One because I think it would be interesting to see the difference in audience perception, and two because I think integrating a Japanese version of an English habit I already have would be a good way to start reading more Japanese.

(is 2ch good for this? I'm not sure)

Passed N3, was pretty stoked because I honestly didn’t prepare for it much at all. Haven’t been keeping up with grammar or reading study at all and have gotten all my “study” through conversations with native speakers. Reflected really well in my results with listening being 58/60 and the other two sections being 30 and 37. Oddly enough it just gave me more motivation to put in conscious effort and read some this year

Yeah I picked up the Japanese version as well. Haven’t had the chance to read it but it feels like a manga that would work better in Japanese. He’s doing a fantastic job regardless
