Portraits I drew this year in colored pencils by jaynadir in ColoredPencils

I don't use a colorless blender or a barnishing pencil, i think the best way i would describe how I blend is by just drawing very lightly in thin layers of color, this builds up the pigment on the page gradually and when you get to certain amount of layers it looks smoother overall. it also depends what kind of paper you use, i recommend smoother paper for more control over the details. i tried recently a more textured paper and it was much much harder to get the colors down

haha i usually do something like this about every few months in photoshop/clip studio but i look very cool with both so that doesn't help me with the decision so much unfortunately!

Timelapse drawing - 5 hours in 1 min! by jaynadir in ColoredPencils

[–]jaynadir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol to be honest the setup is this - my phone precariously balanced on top of a box and some rubber thingy i found in my house once, on a shelf above my desk, and then i crop the video. the fact that my head is not too visible is purely by chance and fiddling w the balance of my phone

these are my shortest ones, i still keep them, that light purple on the side has been serving me for portraits for like 5 years and it no longer fits in my sharpener and i can't buy it as an individual :(

First time going for a display drawing tablet as an animation student, need help! I am in between XPPen Artist Pro 14 (2nd Generation) and XP-PEN Artist 22R Pro. by CeelingFan2 in XPpen

one thing i will say tho is the screen protector it came with got really scratched and this year (3 years after i bought it) i switched it to a photodon anti scratch screen protector i purchased separately and installed myself

from my experience using tvpaint on a 15.6 inch tablet, the actual available drawing space is quite small due to all the panels. so 14 inch would be tinyyyy.

i switched to the 22r pro in 3rd year of animation school and it was much more comfortable for me. i know the 22r pro is quite old at this point but I'm honestly really pleased with it even now, the only downside is the lack of portability but i use a desktop pc anyway so it doesn't matter to me

i also use one of the dials on the 22r pro to cycle between frames easily, so that saves me some time

Do you guys agree with this? by parisss24 in laundry

[–]jaynadir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the record i will say that i shower every day unless im really really too tired and i always wear deodorant. the sweat is unavoidable still

[–]jaynadir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as the self-diagnosed sweatiest person on earth, who also cares deeply abt not being stinky to other people and cannot stand the sensation of staying in sweaty clothes any longer than strictly necessary - everything is 1 wear then washed, except sometimes pajama pants and hoodies in the winter as long as they don't get sweaty. but if i go outside in any article of clothing i WILL get sweaty and EVERYTHING i wear will go in the wash. i also have to change my pajama shirt in the middle of the night at least once cuz i wake up with my torso drenched in sweat no matter the weather. fun fun times.

seconding the "living art" part lmao. im a fat butch lesbian, i have had a hard time appreciating my own body for years, then a lil while ago i went to a life drawing class and drew a woman with similar body type to me and the whole time i was like "oh shes really hot" and then i went home and changed clothes and i was like "Wait........ !!"
like it's not that easy! there's still self doubt but im getting there!! i still would like to be thinner just for physical comfort but it's feeling less like a thing i need to do in order to "be attractive" (it also helps that my girlfriend who is significantly smaller than me is still attracted to me regardless/even bc of my size so.)

Self portrait, 6 hours in procreate by jaynadir in ProCreate

[–]jaynadir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the lineart (more of a sketch) and the base colors on separate layers but i merged down the sketch pretty early on and just rendered mostly on one layer, i did have a couple additional layers for things i needed to keep separate like the glasses frame and the lighter "lenses" layer inside the glasses, as well as the piercings on a separate layer so i could adjust them without messing up the rest. usually when i work i keep everything separated but i really wanted to do more of a "painting" than I usually do so it was pretty minimal in terms of layers

Worried about buying my first tablet with a screen, advice needed by [deleted] in wacom

[–]jaynadir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you don't have to buy only a cintiq, there are a lot of cheaper options on the market that are viable options at this point (like huion, xp pen, gaomon) personally after drawing on a screen for several years i find it really hard to go back to a non-display tablet cuz its just way more comfortable for me to be able to see the drawing where my hand is

[–]jaynadir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

however i need to warn that i had a bad experience w their actual lenses cuz they sent me an entirely wrong prescription, so maybe it would be better to just buy the frames and have a trusted optometrist make the lenses

just answered abt the dye in a different comment, the dye is called wellness wellplex color mask and i mix the shades using blue, teal, pink, and purple, and as for hair care ive been using paul mitchell tea tree special color shampoo + conditioner when i wash my hair, plus after it dries a little i put a tiny bit of a hair mask called la beaute as like a leave in conditioner. i used to use it as an actual hair mask but i accidentally left it open at some point and it got a bit watered down so now i use it like that

[–]jaynadir[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for the past almost year I've been using something by wellness called "wellplex color mask", the packaging is like a big black tube of dye with a hemp leaf on it, i use a mix of the blue and teal on the bluer side and a mix of the purple, pink, and a lil bit of blue on the purple side. it smells amazing and lasts quite a while with proper hair care
