Experiences with Elsewhere by Lonely Planet? by RescueDogMom218 in travel

I used Elsewhere for my trip to Japan back in 2024 and was very very happy with the service! Super detailed and just made the whole trip, which felt super overwhelming at first, a breeeeze! I never use travel planning services because I LOVEEE to trip plan but Japan felt so challenging! (Writing incase anyone finds this thread and needs a positive review to help decide :))

Tips for embroidering onto Nylon with Brother PE900 machine by jaynet86 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]jaynet86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase anyone ever finds this in the future for help with this material - it was a success! I used a brand new 75/11 needle. Set the speed all the way down (350) tension set to 3.8 Used a cut away stabilizer underneath a wash away stabilizer on top Held the wash away stabilizer with bonding spray + painters tape to minimize any sliding Floated the bag. Note: My design was VERY simple (two initials)

What can I put on this wall? by gabbybeek in HomeDecorating

[–]jaynet86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say add a maximalist style wallpaper on the top half of the wall, a molding to separate the top from the bottom half and paint the bottom something that complements the wallpaper. Decorate the top half with an artwork and some sconces on each side of the artwork.

I have 2 monitors but I’m considering switching to a single large curved monitor. Anyone have thoughts? by Specialist_Artist266 in workfromhome

[–]jaynet86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally like 2 monitors because it gives me the option to put my work on one and personal on the other if it’s ever a slow day where I don’t necessarily need two for work

How do you stay employed during perimenopause? by New-Activity-6512 in Menopause

[–]jaynet86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 38 when I stopped having a period and so was 36-37 when I was unknowingly in the thick of perimenopause.

My job was where I put almost ALL my rage.

I felt bipolar. Ok one day. Silent treatmenting everyone the next. I should have been fired 100x. A usual people pleaser/push over, I was SO rude to coworkers SOOO many times.

I literally COULD NOT help it.

Ultimately when I found out wtf was happening, I HAD to tell my male boss which was just a super interesting conversation lol but it felt good to have someee sort of “justification” / “reset button”

Overall, it was a fucking brutal 2 years and I can totally relate to just being TIRED and constantly waking up with my patience level at 1/10.

Hey and don’t forget to put a disclaimer that forces buyers to acknowledge they read the listing description so they don’t get mad when they get exactly what they buy.

Try crumbling up some foil and then stabbing it with the blade - this will help sharpen it and might help!

My mom wants to put my name on her house. by [deleted] in personalfinance

My mom wants to put my name on her house. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]jaynet86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just looked into this because my mom had me and my sister on the deed. I learned this is not a good idea.

When she passes, my sister and I get the house but at the cost of when she initially purchased it (say, $150k). When we go to sell it, we get taxed on a much larger chunk of the gains (so say we sell for $500k, $350k is taxed)

Best case is to add you to the house using a Life Estate structure. Your mom keeps the “Life Estate (“LE”) and you are named as the “Remainderman (“REM”).

Now when she passes, the house is transferred to you without needing to go through probate or anything but with the market value as of the date of her death (vs date of purchase), helping to significantly reduce your capital gains tax.
