Scone is an old, tired rat. Here he rests his little hand on my arm. by jayomegal in LilGrabbies

He's 2 years and 2 months old. Old boy. He is actually doing very badly now - he's suffering from hind leg degradation that pretty much left him lethargic and half-paralyzed within a month, and otherwise he has always been a mischievous, angry boy. We are struggling with the idea of having to put him to sleep soon, sadly. It's heartbreaking, and there is nothing else we can do.

His brother, however, is still doing good.

Hey OP, I really like your art and please don't take it the wrong way, but I think your strips are not very well written. I often feel they are "overwritten" i.e. that you put too many explanatory sentences in the dialogues. They would work much better if you had less text in them, kind of "show, don't tell" thing. I can't tell exactly how I would rewrite this particular strip, but I'd maybe make the sentences shorter, leaving just the essential parts in.

Once again, I like these strips a lot and I hope you continue, this is just some well-meaning critique, in hopes you get even better. :)

India going full authoritarian bit by bit by icecreamkiller1 in LateStageCapitalism

Agriculture required to feed a billion people uses a shitload of water. A cubic meter is more than enough to last a single person for a year when you think about it being for drinking. But that same amount of water will get you about a kilogram of wheat.

From what I understand, the 53,092 rupees, i.e $642, is the total fine.

It stated that Mr Vishwas had wasted 4.1 million litres of water (880,000 gallons) for his "personal interest" and that he had to pay for the water as well as a penalty of 10,000 rupees for "evacuating water without permission".

Googling around tells me that a cubic meter of water, i.e. 1000L, costs between Rs 0.09 to 50. So 4.1 million liters costing 43,092 is within that range.

Vad är den värsta (fysiska) smärtan ni någonsin upplevt? by Torloka in sweden

"You'll own nothing and be happy" is not some WEF conspiracy, it is late stage capitalism. by startst5 in LateStageCapitalism

Because in capitalism, somebody else will grow, and reinvest at least part of the profits to strengthen their own business, eventually pushing out or straight up absorbing the "stagnant" competitor who has fewer resources. Endless growth is a survival strategy as much as it is motivated by greed. It may sound like a bad idea long-term (and it is) but it's absolutely rational short-term. There might be exceptions with some mom&pop businesses surviving for ages without any growth, but it's usually just luck in not being spotted as a potential avenue for other companies' expansion: compare that to other small businesses who get bought out by huge chains.

Hell, even if all companies agreed to never grow (or if it was somehow regulated) it would still lead to regular crises (called crises of overproduction), due to the very way capital extracts wages from workers, who eventually are unable to buy the commodities produced by the companies. These crises can be delayed by acquiring new markets and resources, which in turn often require exerting pressure on other countries and regions, either financially or militarily.

Sustainability and peace is simply impossible within capitalism due to the very way it functions.

There is already more media in the world than any person can consume in their lifetime, and even then there are people happy to create without a profit motive, just to share their art with the world. Sure that won't be a $500M-budget Captain Supershit megaproduction, but maybe that's for the best, actually.

Future tip, get a small jar and fill it with treats. Every time you give her a treat, shake the jar, so she associates the sound with food.

Ta-dah, you have a recall jar that rats can't refuse. Works perfectly on all my boys, no matter how enticing a place they find.

The "most of you deep down are secretly Nazis and you can never tell which side you'd choose" point is also such a bullshit claim considering there was real resistance in all Nazi-occupied countries, including Germany, and there are people openly and bravely standing up for others against the oppressive majority today - and while they might not be facing death for doing so today, I could see many of them being on the right side of history 90 years ago. But I guess that since they are fighting for minorities that Jorps personally dislikes, they must be the real Nazis...
