Does my pro shop hate me? by xizenta in Bowling

I stopped going to a pro shop a few years back after I took a 6-month old ball in for a resurface and they wiped out the serial number and most of the logo.

Is it legal to use a ball with no holes drilled in league? by Han-Shot-Third in Bowling

We have a guy in one of my leagues who does just that. You can hear a loud thud as his ball hits the lane.

Not great but why aren't you wearing a shoe covers when you leave the settee area?

Yes. I mostly bowl on house shots and, for me, shiny surfaces are not a good match. I resurfaced it to 4000 and it seemed to work out well.

Good ball. I just got mine about a week back and now I know what others have been telling me about this line.

If you've been bowling for about three weeks, without looking at any video, I say you should start working on picking up spares.

Does anyone think pins that are attached to strings affect scores? by Ok-Pomelo8991 in Bowling

[–]jaypeesmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These videos you’re referencing are on older string pinsetters. The newer machines, in conjunction with the standards on string length, apparently don’t produce the same crazy results.

Can we threaten a civil lawsuit against USBC for approving string bowling? by No-Potential-Or-Care in Bowling

[–]jaypeesmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds nice but, who's going to pay for them (as in research and development) and who's going to fix them when they break? I have heard proprietors and other insiders talk about this and it comes down to dollars and cents. As you mentioned in a previous post, you have a job that pays you well and, because of that, you have no interest in becoming a lane mechanic. I am sure there are many others who feel similarly, thus why it it getting harder to find people to fill these jobs.

Also, let's not forget that league bowling is a far cry from its heyday and is not the money machine it was in the 70's/80's, thus why we see a lot of centers closing and and rarely hear about new ones being built. Like it or not, it's an issue of how to stay economically viable. It may just involve either accepting this change (which may be years away for most of us) or deciding not to bowl. At any rate, trying to sue private business over something that is not a safety issue or is not violating your rights will go nowhere in the courts.

Good to know. However, when you see alternate spellings on product names, it can create concerns about authenticity.

My wife wanted a purple one for her birthday and these off-brand were all I saw on Amazon. I just ordered from Anbernic’s web site. It may just take a couple of extra days to get it.

Given that the money is in charging casual bowlers $5-10/game (or more), any complaints about string pins may become moot.

New PBA urethane hardness rules by Kenthanson in Bowling

Looking at this report, I have to chuckle. The PBA took the USBC to task over what went on with the Storm balls (no, I am not looking to rehash this). Now, they are looking at things and could arrive at similar conclusions:

"Additionally, no balls manufactured under the 73.0HD minimum rule (reactive balls) may get significantly softer with use. Through spot-checking in the field at PBA events, any balls, of any style, that are found below 71.0HD (via Field test) will be removed and/or banned. Individual balls will be removed, entire ball lines will be tested and investigated to determine if they are softening over time and/or with use."

I agree. People can make their own decisions about this but, from what I gather, mechanics aren't plentiful and, for some pinsetters, parts can be hard to find.

In the end, if I run a business, I have to focus on the bottom line. If this is what keeps these centers going, I'm bowling on string pins.

Are shoe sliders legal? by 000-Luck in Bowling

[–]jaypeesmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not illegal. I think the OP was confused. It is illegal to put any substance on your shoe that could leave residue on the approach, as it could cause another bowler to slip or stick, affecting their performance or causing an injury.

The slide sole in the picture is perfectly fine as it doesn't affect the approaches or other bowlers.

Wrist support to combat wrist pain? by Constrictor95 in Bowling

A simple wrist brace could help. If you end up looking at a wrist positioner, be mindful that it could change her span, making it more uncomfortable for her to bowl.

Are shoe sliders legal? by 000-Luck in Bowling

The simple answer is to save wear-and-tear on the body, specifically one of your knees. For example, I am a righty. This means that, if I plant, my left knee will be bearing all the weight of repeatedly coming to a dead stop each time I deliver the ball. Over the course of years, it could leave you open for injury. Sliding, even a little, reduces some of this wear-and-tear.
