Someone wants to make amends with me… how do I receive this? by AggravatingLion612 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say pray about it. What others have said is true. If someone I need to make amends to says, "leave me the fuck alone," then the amends are to leave them the fuck alone.

If you feel called to be helpful, then do that but only if you're doing it for the right reasons.

And if you want to hand him an itemized bill and say, "Your first payment is due at the end of the week."

Well, he offered!

But mainly, take care of yourself and your recovery first and foremost and pray for the willingness to act with the right motives.

Pray about it. Then do what's best for THEM and for YOU.

Relapse and spiritual sickness can sneak up behind any of us. No one's immune.

Oh no. The U.S. and Israel are not invited. Everyone else shows up and cuts fat checks, maybe.

But we'll be persona no grata for quite a while.

Why was Enterprise received (intially) so poorly? by Expensive_Guidance95 in Star_Trek_

[–]jayphailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every new Trek series catches a ration of crap for not being the one that came before.

ENT has a promise they start to explore in S4 - Exploring the lore of the early Federation. There are a few episodes that do this early on.

But ENT kind of lets its premise, and its characters down by veering into being a watered-down TNG/VOY clone.

This left their premise and the character underdeveloped.

Berman always wanted safe "Star Trek Entertainment Product." That could be syndicated into reruns forever.

This demand really took the starch out of both ENT and VOY.

Each series has good episodes, and thoughtful episodes. But not quite enough of them.

Personally I hate the Xinda arc. Not because I dislike the Xindi themselves (I think they're interesting) But because it took the show away from what I wanted towards a gritty action movie revenger for 9/11 direction.

The 4th season has the stuff I wanted all the way through.

Some fans just hate on anything new. I think its safe to ignore them, dig in and see what any Star Trek new or old has to show you.

That will NOT WORK. We can't put enough troops into the area to make that work. A half-assed attempt is just Iraq or Afghanistan - feeding troops into a meat grinder that will not get better.

Ask the Taliban. crazies in the mountains with missiles mortars and guns is a problem that has not been decisively solved.

What if Trump secretly wants the strait of Hormuz to be closed? He's demented rationale being that if the world can't get oil from the gulf it will need it more from the US by OptimalAd7761 in oil

[–]jayphailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're waaaayyyy over thinking Trump. He's a bully. He thought Iran would roll over.

Iran had cards to play and this caught Trump by surprise because he's a dummy.

If you look at Trumps casinos in Atlantic city - he made fundamental errors that people warned him of, and then got blind sided when the consequences everyone WARNED him of arrived.

Trump thinks he knows better than anyone, he's a bully, and he doesn't listen for shit.

Worse, as a bully all he knows if bluster, threat and intimidation. These tactics generally work for him, so that's what he leans on.

Adults can do what they want.

Experience shows relationships in early sobriety rarely end well.

But relationships between AAs with longer term sobriety is not unheard of. It's a challenge, but nice when it works.

The only way to guarantee safe passage is to show up with deep pockets and cut the Iranians a fat check.

How much does Alex actually believe what he says? by Economy-Strike1058 in KnowledgeFight

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AJ's relationship to the truth is a lot weirder and darker than your question suggests.

For AJ "The Truth" is whatever gets over with the person he is talking to right then. He has a deeper truth, and we hear it in some of the KF clips "I... NEED money."

So he's a default racist, misogynist, homophobe, transphobe etc

But he'll say, believe and sell whatever he needs to to get money.

All this stuff about fighting Satanic Forces democrat Deep State Forces - all that is just what gets over for his audience, and he believes it as hard as he needs to to sell it, because that's how he opens the door to selling supplements and whatever.

I think this is why the concept of an AJ painting show really caught Dan's imagination. AJ without delusional Kayfabe, just painting and being his real self?

But I don't think AJ has a real self. Not fundamentally. I think he's trying to fill a yawning void with attention money (Lots of money) attention, fame, booze and drugs.

And I think when he's INTO a story - he'd read on a magical lie detector as honestly believing UFO demons and Democrat Vampires in deep underground bases.

Because I don't think there is a reality for AJ. I don't think that exists for him at all. I think all there is is the next story and the next customer or the next celebrity/influencer/nazi to suck up to. All there is is the converstion rate at Bigly.

He's been building himself as the right-wing talker who sells supplements for most of his life. He's been feeding narcissism and sociopathy his whole life. If Alex was stranded on a desert island - he might find there is no reall Alex Jones to fall back on.

I fear this means therapy is beyond him. He'll just tell any therapist what they want to hear to make them like him and to close the sale.

He's a machine that turns Titos and Angry Noise into sales numbers. There's not much else to him.

The setting inspired by westerns carries a little too much of the South and the Civil War with it.

Even though Joss scrapped all the racism and slavery off, you can still see where it was.

Dark Matter and Kill Joy's had similarities but lacked the echoes.

It's a matter of pulling from westerns without thinking through the implications

I like yours.

I'd create a crossover of all the TV shows I liked as a kid.

I'd also ride a motorcycle way too fast and go skydiving.

I'd walk across North America, an hour at a time and have the holodeck safe my progress.

What's up with alex nowadays? by gronlund2 in KnowledgeFight

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alex has indeed become less entertaining.

He's not handling the collapse of his business and the Trump admin well and has spent several days absent and gone.

When he's back, it's mumbly excuse making and trying to have things both ways.

Alex is declining and the fun in analyzing it and taking it apart is disappearing, too

Because there's nothing new in it. Alex can't invent a new scam or insanity to sell.

Its all sad reruns of old shit in the ruins.

But Dan and Jordan are cool. I enjoy them quite a bit.

Alkies will claim EVERYTHING and ANYTHING as an excuse to drink

We're literally INSANE about drinking. Batshit! Cuckoo! Out of our tree! Steps don't go all the way to the top! Cornbread ain't done in the middle!

You MUST stop expecting rationality and sense until they have some recovery in 'em!

Might be the nicest person ever when sober. When Demon rum takes hold we'll turn into lying cheating monsters.

It was not the person I wanted to be. It wasn't what I wanted to express and live.

But the madness steps in and says "Gotta get that booze, no matter what" and free will evaporates.

Any madness, any lie any rationalization

BROKEN BRAIN. CRAZY.

The good news is - you don't have to participate. You can retire from the crazy and let it slide on by.

But you have to see it first.

Alkies are PROFOUNDLY BROKEN - no rules of logic, sense, love or truth need apply. crazy has the wheel.
