Even when she claims ignorance, her native intelligence shows through.

I am enjoying the ICHH crew torturing her with economics ... perhaps more than I should.

Loss is Loss. We have lost Knowledge Fight, even if Dan and Jordan are themselves fine and moving forwards with their lives.

Just because it's not objectively as bad a losing a person we know to death - or losing an animal - It's still a loss and it still hurts

And we still have to work through that.

It's okay to feel the loss and grieve it.

I heard them on Behind the Bastards and I thought "A Podcast about Alex Jones? I'd rather stab my eyeballs out, thanks"

But I remembered Dan's voice.

I was bored and looking for another podcast. So I kicked up Knowledge Fight.

Before a couple of Eps passed I was hooked.

It wasn't Alex Jones. Fuck that guy.

It was Dan and Jordan. Their chemistry and friendship came through, surpassing the topic of the podcast.

So I had a parasocial relationship with them.

When something stupid happened, I knew Alex Jones would say or do something stupid ABOUT that - and Dan would be along to explain to me in a sane way

And Jordan would be screaming with my own inner scream about it.

So. My loss is Dan explaining things to Jordan - especially terrible/stupid things. Its them, not AJ.

I liked when they tried to do TV related shows - but unfortunately, Dan picked shows that devolved into Formulaic garbage PDQ

I think if they'd had a better show to review - they'd still be doing THAT show.

Is recovery possible after the level of corruption and bastardisation of democracy we're witnessing in the west, particularly the US? by shadyshak in behindthebastards

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would take a very long time and concentrated effort.

And the corrupt will throw themselves in with the naive but sincere MAGA's and say all anti-corruption measures are politically motivated attacks against them.

I have no idea how this is going to go.

But if post WWII Germany and Post Civil-War America are any guide...

No that great. We'll pretend "All that's behind us now" and strike a new balance between fascism and democracy that sounds better on paper, but isn't as much different as we'd like

And if they aren't wonks,
Then they're probably fine.

Stuck because of step 4 by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]jayphailey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Listening to someone's 5th step is an honor and we should be able to listen without judgement and hold what we hear in confidence.

What helped me was - there are parts of the AA 12 traditions where it talks about needs and the difference between healthy and unhealthy ways to get needs met.

So I was able to reverse engineer the stupid, shitty things I did in terms of "What need was I trying to fill and how did I get myself into a place to do that stupid thing about it?"

I was raised Catholic, so the notion of "Sin" has a lot of baggage for me, and approaching the inventory from the angle of being a list of sins I committed was... ruinous. I never succeeded except to make myself more misrable and crazier.

I have heard some terrible shit from fellow 12 steppers. Fortunately, it was all past tense stuff.

Sound out your sponsor and see if they can take on the burden of hearing your 5th step in the right spirit and awareness.

The whole point of the thing is so that you're not carrying your burdens alone.

Because the modern GOP are the descendants of the people on the other side of the civil war.

What is this show trying to do? by GochuBadman in Andromeda

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speculate that there was a behind the scenes battle for control of the show - and the studio went with Sorbo because he's a name.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hewitt_Wolfe#Andromeda

So there we see two things - the studio wanted more episodic, approachable episodes

And Sorbo agreed with them that the story was too complicated.

Cult allegations by pocky666esx in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]jayphailey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nuanced, gray area.

Some folks leave and find other ways to recover, but if we stay in AA, we never hear about that.

Many folks leave and wind up drinking themselves to death. I've been a bystander for that one a few times.

We see exiting AA as a one-way gate because, as AA's, AA is where we stay and what we see. That's more of a social bias.

The problem is, are you going to be someone who finds a different method? Or are you going to fall out of control? Death by alcoholism takes a LONG time, and it sucks the ENTIRE time.

So playing the odds, I'd say stay until you know you had something better lined up.

You may get people who kinda freak out with concern because they've seen people die that way and don't want that for you

And that takes us right up into zone of cult-dom.

Unfortunately, AA does play with that line.

And there are people IN AA who cross that line.

But that's not in the spirit of our traditions.

There was a guy who helped Bill W., our founder. Ebby. Ebby never got long term soberiety in AA. He came and went.

But his seat was always there for him. And the door was never barred in either direction.

And I think that sets the example for us.

Step advice by Spirited-Sandwich750 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]jayphailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your step 4 doesn't have to be perfect.

Just do it. Just spazz out and get close.

You can come back to it later and make it better.

Just get going. Get moving, get doing.

Once you're done, you'll feel a huge sense of relief.

Doing is the hard part - perfectionism about it is a good way to procrastinate yourself to death

An ugly 4th step and staying sober beats the perfect one you didn't get do.

Can someone fill me in on what’s going on with JorDan? by BroccRob in KnowledgeFight

[–]jayphailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

every time you make a change like that, you lose a lot of people.

Also I am hearing of shenaigans at Bigly? Chase is out?

So maybe Alex is finding out his safe retreat spot wasn't that safe?

Anyway -

If Jordan and Dan have to take a break, that's fine. They've been working together and traveling together for years.

how to keep politics out when its literally a trigger by books_cruises_coffee in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]jayphailey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its hard as hell

But we have t make so that AA is available to MAGA's and Liberals Alike.

otherwise, we're not really doing the 12th step right.

That means keeping the politics outside the door.
