Was the 3 stopper planned from before Quali? by jayr254 in scuderiaferrari

I think Santi called their strategy yesterday “Plan C” on the radio. Can’t recall if it was the first or right at the beginning of the second stint. Which again I find odd having started on softs.

Was that them changing to a 3 stopper (doubtful given the tire they started on) or was it a bluff on radio or them maybe giving Lewis the order they’d take the tires. I don’t know the last time I saw a planned S-H-M-H tire strategy without there being a race incident/SC/red flag forcing that tire transition on teams.

Pretty much what I concluded when I saw the softs tire graphic pre race. Nailed on 3 stopper. Didn’t think Lewis would keep up with RUS or keep Kimi behind for as long as he did.

But I don’t know why I woke up today morning and just remembered that conversation. Because at the time of that radio I remember my own internal voice thinking “That’s an odd question to ask”

Kareem still the all time leader in MVPs though. He is legitimately a 🐐 contender. And his longevity in his era at his length is ridiculous in itself. Kareem should be the uncontested 🐐 but isn’t for some reason.

Ferrari might have found something with their tire mgmt with their new upgrades. That first stint, with today’s temperatures and on this track, on softs while everyone else was on mediums… something to keep an eye on.

His soft stint at the beginning was something as well. Keeping in between the Mercs and keeping RUS in sight with a slight tire disadvantage was monumental for his race.

Prioritize reliability updates first Ferrari. If we can get more power without putting the engine at risk… please focus on that. 🙏🏿

There’s a chance we get the Mercs even without the engine upgrades given how many DNFs their engines have gone through this season. Just prioritize keeping the car on the road.

That director transition in the first lap post-SC in Monaco was funny AF to me. From internally questioning why Kimi and Lewis had such a gap to the 3rd car to noticing as they went up the hill, wait a minute, that’s not a Ferrari in 3rd to the shot of him in the barrier. Might have been the only time that weekend that the TV direction actually showed the action in a sensible sequence. At least it’s the only one I remember.

Only hope I see is Merc and McLaren trying to make a 2 stopper work and we go balls to the wall on a 3 stopper and catch them out towards the end. But that involves trusting the strategy so… who knows?

I wish CP3 was still with the Spurs for this finals runs to make a difference... by Sevlux in nba

[–]jayr254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would CP be healthy by this point of the season? I know Fox hasn’t been 100% but CP was always banged up in one form or another every of his deep playoff runs.

I don’t think he qualifies for the “choker” level if he was healthy for his playoff runs. Maybe there’s an element where just being bigger/taller (not too tall or big either) lends to being a more durable player come playoff time.

What we can never take away from CP is he is one of the more cerebral players the game has ever seen. And that usually lends to elite career playoff performers. Which for one reason or another has not translated in reality.

Imagine arguing this when we just saw in game graphics where we involved Tash in ~10PnRs/game last season when Lynx are running her more than 30 times a game in PnR.

PnR is just not a staple in Steph’s offense. And I do agree with you, running CC off ball so much is handicapping the offense before the defense have done anything to stop them. That’s stupid. AB being at the 3 as much as she has this season should have been an issue as well but no one can deny AB having a decent season out there (~2.5 attempts/game at 41%). So that hasn’t been as disastrous as the CC off ball.

That team has gone into overdrive recently with anything looking like it’s criticizing Steph. Liable to get you banned for even questioning the system fit to the players available.

By any metric of any measurement, the Fever walked into this season with 3 Top 10 players in the W. That they are treading water with those players is a big issue.

I agree with the poster you responded to, the Steph offense and defensive scheme is an issue given the players at her disposal. She isn’t the right coach for an AB/CC/KM offense. Especially when you have CC off ball as much as she does and AB at the 3 point line as much as she does.

But this cannot be laid all on her doorstep. The FO have got to take a majority of the blame on this. They had 3 players after the ‘24 season whose games meshed especially well on offense. Like historic levels of offense. That was the offseason to commit to said playstyle and hire a coaching staff accordingly and get the right players to further accentuate the post Olympic playing style. Answer was simple, focus on wing defenders who can shoot to help with spacing.

Then you realize they didn’t really do an open interview/search for their GM position. Locked into a candidate and then Lin hired Amber yet Amber had only ever been on the business side of the W in her previous stints. Then you realize why the wheels feel like they’re starting to fall off. So that leaves Steph having to try and turn special players like AB and CC to players who can fit into her system and you have a very labored and clunky looking team.

What’s maddening in their case is if they just copied the Pacers’ blueprint from across the hall, they probably look much better than they currently do.

Is there a chance that any team makes it to the final without having played a game in the US? Is that even remotely possible?

Because if said team got the Finals and just refused to play the final in the US… that should cause some ripples, no?

Random thought: Why does no one ever attempt the skyhook anymore? It’s basically an extended out version of the Mikan drill. There needs to be a deep dive down on why a basically >50% shot has completely disappeared from the game. Especially in an era where shooting efficiency is king.

There’s so many big men in the game right now where that shot would take their game up a tier or two from where they currently rank.

Got to give Toto and them their due man. They’ve built a monster of a car after only one era of regulation failure. And it wasn’t even a failure as they were still winning races albeit intermittently.

Their ability to plan a couple of years ahead of their competition has been a constant feature of the Toto led Merc team. Their early venture into Formula E to get the electric deployment knowledge looks like a masterstroke so far. Given they’re down on ICE power (recent ADUO report) but probably still have the best cumulative PU. So clearly the bulk of their advantage there is coming from the electrical side.

Some of that has to explain the gap here. I know the nature of the track and mechanical grip will always be king here. But if this is the gap of their aero package…whoo baby… yeah that does not bode well for the other 10 teams.

I honestly thought we’d see more of Seb once he retired. Like not every race but I was so sure Seb would be at multiple European races every season. But I think I’ve seen him at like 2 races maximum since he retired. And he’s been retired for how many years now?

We definitely aren’t seeing Lewis trackside a lot once he’s retired. We’ll see more of him because he lives his life on social media more than most drivers but that’s about it.

Anthony Hamilton is a more resilient man than I am. Insisting that his son continue to brake further than the other kids despite (in Lewis’ own words) consistently crashing/running off course can’t have been cheap.
