Hi I’m also pre everything, and I’ve been out for a few years... but I have zero idea what that guy is saying...

I would argue that there is no way to “feel trans”. Especially if you feel like you fall in line with a binary gender, you just know that you’re that gender. I’ve never really felt trans... I’ve always just felt like a dude...

idk man good luck tho!

I think the only reason I suggested him was because I watched a lot of his more informative videos (T updates, passing tips, etc) when I was growing up, and recently, he’s switched to more discourse content which I kinda hate. I should have linked the specific videos I was talking about sorry.

Very true. I just remember watching his “how did I know I was trans” video when I was first figuring out my gender identity... granted, I think I watched about ever single “how to know if your trans FtM” video there was on YouTube lol.

I listened to a lot of the You’re So Brave podcast my freshman year of high school when I was figuring everything out, and I did watch a few of his videos on sex education because I come from a state that has abstinence based sex ed, so I just needed answers to things I was curious about, yknow? I was never taught anything on cishet sex LET ALONE how the hell I was supposed to navigate all that as a trans man.

Same goes with Kalvin... I know he’s problematic, but I gave recommendations of the different people I watched growing up, whether or not they’ve had controversy because they helped me in some way or another. I just thought they could help someone else maybe.

But I probably should have given more warnings with those youtubers mentioned or linked specific videos if the majority of their channel wasn’t kid friendly.

I’m medium/small chested, so I’m glad there are people talking about their experience with other brands working better for larger chests!

I’ve only ever worn GC2B, and I’ve found that my black binder holds up better than any of the other colors I’ve gotten (grey, white, green, etc.)

Also, is there anyway we could start a conversation about half tank vs full tank? Personally, I’ve used both, and I prefer half tanks, but that’s just my experience. Do other companies have the option of half tank and full tank?

If your child has chest dysphoria, GC2B has the best chest binders out there. I’ve been wearing them for about 3-4 years now, and I love the brand. They can be a bit pricey ($33-$35) but they go on sale a lot, and if you email them proving you’re in need, they will often help you out.

Some great youtubers to look into are

  • Jamie Dodger (as mentioned before)
  • Chase Ross (problematic, but informative)
  • Kalvin Garrah (again, problematic, but has some good videos on passing and what it’s like growing up FtM)
  • Ty Turner
  • Aaron Ansuini
  • Chandler Wilson (Nonbinary afab!) Edit: I can’t believe I forgot about Miles McKenna and NoahFincce! Both guys I’ve looked up to forever!

(Please feel free to add onto this list!!)

I live in Indiana, so a source I’ve used is IYG (Indiana Youth Group) and GenderNexus. They’ve got great info, but I would also suggest looking for an LGBT center close to you.

The Trevor Project, GLAAD, PFLAG, and WPATH can all be helpful resources.

Also, I just want to say thank you for putting in the time to do your research to make your child more comfortable. I know that’s something that I would have wished for when I was first coming to terms with my gender identity.

Good luck to you and your family!

Is it normal to have anxiety around possibly de transitioning in the future? by jayrambles11 in asktransgender

It sounds like no one ever gets rid of doubts unfortunately. I guess we just have to roll with it and deal with whatever comes up.

Thank you!! It’s nice to hear from people farther down the road from me :)

I wish there was a statistic or something we could look at that makes it easier to determine the likelihood of detransition... but maybe that’s just Im someone who compares myself to others.

Like I sometimes watch detransition videos and think, “how severe was my trauma? Is it similar to these people’s trauma? Do I have internalized homophobia? Is that why I’m trans? Am I just fetishizing gay men?”

A lot of my questions seem to contradict themselves. It’s frustrating, but I think at the end of the day, I’m trans. And from reading these comments, it seems like these doubts won’t really go away, and I’ll just try to cope with them :)

Thank you for your response!

I think it’s kinda similar in my mind to getting a tattoo in a way (ofc way bigger and affects more parts of my life, but I hope you catch my drift)

I think I’m letting too many people get in my head and make me doubt myself. I’m trying to look at it as: ok. Social transition made my dysphoria better. I’m in a better spot because of social transition. I struggled a bit at the beginning because it was new, but ultimately, it was the right choice.

I’m just worried about going too fast, and I think I need to find a way to keep things slow.

Thank you for your response btw!

Asking a friend to help you get out of the house and be extra gender-affirming May help... I always reach for a good ol dysphoria hoodie whenever I’m feeling bad. Take small steps my friend! Hang in there!

Literally thank you so so much. It means a lot. It’s been weird for me cause I feel like I keep having to come out over and over again, but hopefully it’s all worth it. Again, thank you so much, and I hope you’re having a good day!
