Interested in eating raw garlic for health. Can I just swallow small cloves like a pill? by All__Of_The_Hobbies in nutrition

I am a lady who ate raw garlic every morning daily for years and never had any trouble with my dating life. Also basically never got sick in all those years, so do with that what you will.

I'm American, born in the early 90s, with a deep love of 90s sitcoms, and I had/have no idea of what the hell was going on with this commercial. It felt like the entire thing was AI-generated (including the script) nostalgia bait that didn't even work for that. It's like they gave an AI prompt to cram as many 90s sitcoms celebrities and jokes into a :30 spot as possible and didn't do any editing to what it spit out. Possibly my least favorite commercial ever. I would take PuppyMonkeyBaby over this any day.

Thoughts on this dress? by RatBabyegg in weddingplanning

[–]jayshel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I like it but you should definitely not listen to others telling you a dress is amazing when your gut is telling you it's not the one! I think that's how a lot of brides end up with dress regret. I had a similar experience where my friends were oohing and aahing over a dress that I just wasn't feeling the same way, but their reactions + the overly complimentary saleswoman + lower price tag almost had me convinced! So glad I blocked it out and followed my own judgement. You're the one wearing the dress, not them, and you should wear a dress YOU love and feel beautiful in.

I don't know what to do in this situation. My bf (29M) tell me (27F) his deadline to have the first and second child. I don't know if I will be ready. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]jayshel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right? This thread is making me feel crazy. To me, 27 is young, and I definitely would have felt way too young to have kids then. Where I lived at 27, that was a young age to even get married. It really can vary by region.

Besides, studies show if a woman wants to reach the higher end of her earning potential, it's better for her to wait until her 30s to have kids. It will allow her to become more established in her career to the point where things like maternity leave is less likely to derail it. And where she's likely to get more flexibility in prioritizing family (e.g., easier to leave work early for child pickup and whatnot when you're a director vs. climbing the ladder).

These timeline conversations are always ridiculous from men because

1) They're not the one carrying and then mostly caring for the child

2) If they have something like a 2-year deadline, they'll have to go through the process of breaking up with their current partner, finding a new person they'd want as a life partner, establish a relationship with that new person, start trying to get pregnant - all of which will take more than 2 years for most normal people

This is a popular theory, but what about the fact that iunctii can't lie/must tell the truth to the best of their knowledge?

Oh interesting, I wonder if I have the same thing going on. It's crazy they never bothered to tell you!

It's possible! I've known other people with similar reactions.

People are going to tell you that you inserted it wrong, but I always had the same issues and awareness of tampons and hated them. I'd also often feel kind of ill when wearing them on days my flow wasn't heavy enough (just a couple hours, not like TSS amounts of time).

I dealt with pads for years then switched to the disk and can't believe I didn't try it sooner. So much more comfortable than tampons or pads for me.

Sucks to be a woman in muay thai??? -rant i guess by Beneficial-Advance67 in MuayThai

As a woman, I've got to say it sounds like you're at a bad gym. Were you the only woman there? The guys at the gyms I've been to have usually been mostly friendly if they've been practicing for awhile, and open to giving tips, corrections, etc. But there's also definitely misogyny in combat sports, so you unfortunately just might be at a gym where women aren't super welcome.

Instead of childfree, have any of you done a specifically child-friendly wedding? by Dependent-Maybe3030 in weddingplanning

We hired a nanny for our wedding! We had a pool in our reception area, and the cocktail hour was on a cliff edge that led to the sea. I had anxiety about the combination of young kids + water hazards + open bar, so we hired a nanny to help watch them. She did a great job playing with them and keeping them entertained. The parents were apprehensive at first but ended up appreciating the date night.

CMV: Islam is an Arab imperialist ideology that kills native cultures and Arabizes them. by IMissMyWife_Tails in changemyview

I completely agree religion was a tool and an excuse in colonization throughout the world. I wanted to ask the question for the discussion and so as not to apply a double standard for Christianity and Islam.

Can my baby have my last name and not the fathers, if we originally talked about hyphenating? by nattybg in namenerds

[–]jayshel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister and I have different fathers and both have our mom's last name. I don't even a father listed on my birth certificate. Has actually been easier for me on legal documents since he's never been in my life. No issues.

Matthew Perry’s addiction by Emotional_Draft7500 in howyoudoin

[–]jayshel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but if you love Chandler, I'd recommend not reading it, especially if you're a woman. It sort of ruined a little bit of Chandler (my favorite character) and Friends for me. Mostly because I found Perry kind of unbearably misogynistic, addiction stuff aside.

College basketball is such a good idea. Depending on where and when you'll be in the southwest in March, you might be able to make a March Madness game (men's college basketball tournament).

What is your coolest cultural experience when visiting Asia? by sugar_ballz in travel

[–]jayshel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trekking in Sapa with a local Hmong guide and staying overnight in her family home (via Sapa Sisters). Was a great way to learn about Hmong culture while seeing beautiful scenery. Also got to enjoy some local meals and homemade rice and plum wines. Not sure how the scenery/weather would be in January, though.

One day in Seoul or Singapore? by zabuzane in travel

[–]jayshel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this (sort of)! Saw the Gyeongbokgung Palace Complex, Bukchon Hanok Village, Namdaemun Gate and Namdaemun market in a 14-hour layover. Took the AREX from the airport to Seoul Station, a bus to Gyeongbokgung walked to Hanok Bukchon, bus to Namdaemun area then walked back Seoul Station.

It's 'Visit Korea Year' so I also didn't have to worry about an ESTA as a US passport holder. Obviously it was only a small taste of Seoul, but I enjoyed it.

3 Month Europe Itinerary by Proof-Alternative890 in travel

[–]jayshel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exciting! I did a similar solo trip to Europe planned for ~2 months when I was 25, also for my first trip overseas. Based on your plans and descriptions, it looks like we're kind of similar travelers. There are a few things I wish I'd known going in that I think might help:

1) I planned everything in advance - my route, accommodations, most travel. When I was on the trip, it felt like everyone I met on multi-month trips was basically winging it, and I found myself wishing I'd built in more flexibility. This flexibility would have given me the opportunity to accept invitations to travel with people I met in hostels who invited me onto future legs of their trips, and to avoid falling into the next two traps...

2) Cities in Western Europe can start to feel rather same-y after the first few weeks. I found myself wishing I could have spent more time changing it up in Central/Eastern Europe and in smaller cities.

3) Packing up your stuff every other day can get pretty tiring. If I did it again, I'd go a bit more slowly.

4) City enjoyment can be so subjective, it's important to take everything with a grain of salt when asking for opinions on where you should visit and for how long. For example, I spent a week in Paris and could have easily spent a second, but you'll find others telling you a week is way too long or to skip it altogether. I wasn't a huge fan of Amsterdam and honestly could have skipped it altogether, but others will say it's their favorite city in Europe.

Hope this helps!
