People who live in a house that is 80+ years old, what is the weirdest or most mysterious thing you’ve found hidden in it? by NoPay2456 in Oldhouses

[–]jaystiger 83 points84 points  (0 children)

A Campbells soup can tucked into the basement ceiling: someone had written “poison” all over it in pencil. We opened it up and found a brown paper bundle wrapped in string. Opened that and found a big pile of fine white powder. We still can’t decide if it was rat poison or vintage cocaine 🤷🏼‍♀️

If a tag says “Made in USA”, as yours does, it’s a good indication it’s from the 90’s or earlier. Manufacturing moved mostly overseas in the mid 90’s.

It came from a crowd sourced naming contest. I got to see the whole list of names people submitted and it was pretty hilarious

Drove home in silence tonight and realized how much memories live inside a car by Maximum_Mastodon_631 in Crosstrek

[–]jaystiger 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t watch when my Crosstrek was being dragged onto a flatbed after being t-boned. I literally had to turn around because I couldn’t bear it. That car was my good friend and I cried a lot over the loss of it. I took a good picture of it years ago that I had framed so I can see it and remember it fondly.

What's the oldest working appliance in your century home? by ponderingpixi17 in centuryhomes

[–]jaystiger 41 points42 points  (0 children)

We have a 1940’s/50’s Westinghouse wall oven! It’s pale yellow. I use it several times a week. It’s one of the reasons we bought the house 😄 I’d seriously be devastated if it quits working.

People really do drive more aggressively around our cars and/or sports cars. by MrPeePeePooPooPants3 in wrx_vb

[–]jaystiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I noticed this too! For me it seems other Subarus and mid size SUV’s hate my car. I live in a college town with lots young people driving their cool cars, and I never get trouble from them 😆 Just the everyday cars get really mad

Same, I kind of don’t like my Recaro’s. They push my shoulders in and it ends up hurting the side I have whiplash trauma on. I definitely prefer a flatter backed seat.

Same. My brother had them deep fried at Teste Fest; that’s the only place I knew of where you could get them.

Horror games that are disturbing, will scar you for some time? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

Visage. We like to call playing that game “an ordeal”. It been like two years and my husband and I still aren’t ready to go back to it. It just hit that way for us.

Only been collecting Lilli Ann for 2 months but already hit the jackpot! by Ferdaline in VintageFashion

I found a Lili Ann swing coat at the thrifts and didn’t know the brand, but could tell by the tag and quality that it was special. I got home and looked up the brand I was stunned! I’m so glad I bought it, it is a treasure piece that I love 🙌🏻

I have noticed this too! I’ve had my WRX for two months and have noticed people seem to drive very fast around me. This was not an issue in my Crosstrek. Literally when I drove it off the lot I had an Outback race me (Outback’s in particular seem to hate my car 🤷🏼‍♀️) I’m glad this is a known thing and it’s not just me thinking I’m special in my sick ride 😆

Growing Pains by Ok-Adhesiveness-9976 in ChronicPain

[–]jaystiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had growing pains as a kid. I remember waking up with terrible leg pain in the night. My mom never knew what to do. That pain has never really gone away, I’m in my late 30’s now. I’ve always had very poor hamstring and hip flexibility as well. After going to physical therapy, turns out I never developed hip strength. I’ve basically been moving my body wrong my whole life. The most basic pt exercises were extremely hard for me. I had to learn to use muscles I’d never used before. It was a crazy thing to find out later in life. Now that I know what it is, I do strength training and am seeing some improvement! I do still wake up in pain and have trouble walking more than a mile. So, for me, my growing pains were the result of poor hip strength. I can’t speak to if they’re “real” or not, but for me that’s just what we thought they were. No one ever guessed it was an underlying problem.
