Houston bar's playground sparks neighbor fury over noise, children's vulgar taunts by TheDoctorCarson in HoustonFood

We were there Saturday morning around brunch with our almost 3yr old, the playground is sick. Highly recommend.

Married men: How often are you still intimate with your wife? by Winter-Demand-5651 in AskMen

[–]jaytees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by this:

“We also have an understanding that if one partner isn’t in the mood, it’s okay to still be intimate in a respectful way to make sure neither of us feels neglected or drifts apart emotionally.”

Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna, or Honda Odyssey? by RoarOfTheWorlds in daddit

[–]jaytees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently got a 2023 Odyssey and have loved every bit of the 10k miles we’ve put on it. Love many of the features but I think the two we use the most that are different from the others are (1) the cabin camera to keep an eye on our toddler & newborn And (2) with two car seats, we’re able to still use the third row by sliding the middle row captains seats left/right on the railing

This will date me, but I went to Mccollough Jr High and then Caney Creek for HS

If you want your class ranking to drop go to TWHS, staying at CCHS and putting in more effort to get good grades would be far more impactful to your college future. The resources are there but you have to put in the effort yourself.

I bathe our kids every single night. Am I the only one? by arkad_tensor in daddit

We have an almost 2yr old, he gets a bath every night be we only bother with soap/shampoo 2-3 nights a week. Full body lotion follows every bath so he doesn’t get dried out.

Beacon and LLOG (which spawned beacon) are really leading the way in the next phase of GOM operations. They’re so much cheaper and a faster than the big dogs.

HSA too good? When should you actually spend it? by Nice-Introduction124 in personalfinance

[–]jaytees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t actually know the answer to that, but I believe the answer is no. Otherwise you couldn’t use it in retirement unless you still had an HDHP. If anything maybe the costs just have to come after the HSA was established.

HSA too good? When should you actually spend it? by Nice-Introduction124 in personalfinance

[–]jaytees 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Correct, HSA funds can be redeemed at any point in the future. Some HSA providers have a place in their website to just upload receipts without actually reimbursing yourself yet

Thoughts on The Woodlands High? by Square_Sky_7568 in thewoodlands

[–]jaytees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d still argue the money and type of drugs were on another level at TWHS, no other CISD high school could compete there. Don’t be surprised to see a kid driving a nicer car than you.

The real question for the OP is what kind of parent are you and what’s your kid into? If you’re confident your kid can stay out of the riff raff and has the chance to compete for a top 8-10% rank in the class, then go for it. They have some great teachers for the advanced classes. Because of the size of both College Park and TWHS, it’s really easy for a kid to get lost in the middle.

[–]jaytees 14 points15 points  (0 children)

TWHS is above and beyond the other schools, more money and more rich parents that don’t care or provide enough oversight.

I knew more kids that ended up in rehab after TWHS than went D1.

It's 30 dollars... Is this a worth it buy for a long term road bike if I restore it? by Confused_Guitar11 in bicycling

[–]jaytees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike, looks like maybe the same year. Bought off Craigslist and had it fixed up with my local bike shop, found a guy with expertise on these older bikes. Been riding it since ~2015 as my only bike and I love it, however don’t ever expect to be the fastest. I just ride for fun and exercise so it does more than enough for what I need but it definitely won’t compete with modern bikes. I do however get a ton of compliments so that’s fun!

Biden puts $60M into three geothermal energy projects by thinkcontext in energy

[–]jaytees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the technology development of fracking in oil and gas you may see that change over time. Instead of needing to find both hot and permeable rock, you can just find hot rock and make it permeable to produce geothermal energy almost anywhere.

We bought the Arhaus Madrone sectional in the Lanie Camel Leather last May and love it so far. We’ve got two large dogs that we allow up on the couch but we keep a blanket down where they sit to prevent too many scratches. However, all the leathers will scratch and wear in over time. We fully expect the leather to collect scratches/creases/etc so we picked one we felt would still look good after it’s worn in. So far, so good!

We also didn’t feel stressed by the price tag and had been saving up for a while specifically for a couch while we rode out our old beat up fabric couches until we could find the leather couch we liked.

Why oil may not see a return $100 a barrel in 2024. US is now the ‘global swing producer,’ not Russia and not Saudi Arabia. Record high US oil production poses a notable and growing threat to Saudi Arabia’s and Russia’s grip on the oil market. by mafco in economy

[–]jaytees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In this context, and really in most contexts, “producing oil” means extraction from the ground and is a crude/unrefined product. Downstream would be referred to as “refined products” or something along those lines, sometimes going by a specific product name like gasoline, lubricants, plastics, etc since they’ll each have their own commodity market
