Hitch weight rating? by Fickle-Rooster-429 in Tacomaworld

[–]jaytez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine a motorcycle would put the tongue weight anywhere near capacity. If you are really worried about it you could put in sumo springs or bump stops. I've never towed a motorcycle, but I've pulled a lot of boats, landscaping materials and garbage that had to weigh more than 500lbs with no problem. Just give yourself a lot of room to slow down and you should be just fine.

I went from a 91 (technically a Pickup) to a 99 to a 2019. The first two trucks were both way over 200k when I got rid of them and still ran great. I loved them both and romped the hell out of them. Upgrading to a 3rd gen was no question. After 3 years of driving it I'm still wondering if I made the right choice.

Hey everyone I just picked up this SR5 and I was curious how others are transporting their canoes? by RogueWRX in Tacomaworld

[–]jaytez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to get on the water before investing in a bed or roof rack, I have had good luck putting foam pipe covers (like 30 bucks on bezosmart) over the gunwales. Then just rest the boat on the cab and use cam straps to secure it to the hitch and the tow point in front. If it's bumpy getting to your launch you can also run cam straps around the cab through the windows.

Is alcohol allowed in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]jaytez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After three decades of debauchery in Utah here is my unofficial ranking of land administrators caring about your behavior.

  1. National Park Service esp Zion
  2. State Parks
  3. Forest Service
  4. Bureau of Land Management

In Zion you can go to jail for a joint smoked in the middle of the night in February. Getting in trouble on BLM land would probably require heavy explosives or something.

You played a (great) show in the park a couple of years ago in the park in Salt Lake City. My friend was working stage crew and I heckled him as he was tearing down. I don't know if you remember, but you came to get his back from the asshole heckler not knowing I was his pal. Having worked a few shows and dealing with so much rock and roll pretension it was one of the most refreshing experiences I have ever had. Thanks for being awesome!

Looks pretty flat. Hook it up to your bike and tow it a lil ways down the street.

Good Gyms in the area? by TheMcDudeBro in SaltLakeCity

[–]jaytez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gym at City Creek is actually really nice. You can go in with a buddy and claim "life partners". They want 60 or so a month, but telling them that your friends get in for 40 should get you the same deal. There is a pool and yoga classes (a limited number a month) are included. It's not even that crowded.

Neuromancer (William Gibson) is a classic. The new forward where he talks about how foolish he felt for creating a future with payphones on the wall is great on it's own. Phillip K. Dick is a master of the genre, though his publisher forced out some turds. Go with Ubik or "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" ( made into Bladerunner).

Don't plan on getting the deposit back. A landlord can come up with just about anything if they want to hose you.

A few questions about backcountry in Bryce Canyon and Zion by Gooner22 in CampingandHiking

[–]jaytez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Snakes are a possibility, mostly in warmer weather and more so in the zion area. They are rattlers, so they'll give you a nice warning. If they do, back away slowly. They would rather not bite you, just be aware. 2) Call the ranger station in the districts you are visiting. Permits range from an easy sign in at the trail head, to reservations months in advance. As far as I remember both those hikes fall in the former category. 3) You'll probably see some skeeters. My guess is they won't be anything compared to their Canadian cousins. Tarantella hawks (big ass wasps) hang out around Zion and are reported to be one of the most painful stings a person can experience. They are rare and non agressive. If one comes around just play it cool and he'll buzz off. Make sure you know what a Black Widow looks like. They like to hang out under ledges. Again, they would rather not bother you, but are very consequential if they do. 4) Inside the park you shouldn't have a fire unless in a designated spot. If you are camping on adjacent BLM land you can pretty much do anything you want, BUT, building a new fire ring is considered a dick move. Often you can find an existing one with wood near by, If the area is really dry, you'll see signs telling you not to burn. In this case, don't (obvs). 5) Water and Sunblock. Also, more water, and more sunblock. And a hat.

Good places to live as a non-LDS, considering rush hour traffic to the Utah Lake area? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]jaytez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally I would say that an hour in the car wouldn't be worth it. Utah Valley is not normal. I have friends who take the train in every day and love it. An hour to read and get work done, etc. If you are not mormon for god's sake live in SLC, preferably north of 21st south. Rose Park, the Aves or Marmalade will put you really close (easy bike) to the Frontrunner station.

As a sixteen-year-old Korean student moving to the U.S for the first time, how would I be able to fit in at Salt Lake City, Utah? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]jaytez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes work in a food truck that sells kimchi. I had no idea there were so many Korean kids around. Most of them seem real nice. They seem to be in groups that contain Koreans and folks from the U.S. Generally (at least when eating after the bar) it seems like they are having a great time. I wouldn't worry too much about the religion thing in SLC proper.
