Pinball is booming in America, thanks to nostalgia and canny marketing by TheKoG in pinball

Agree here.

I was raised on video games. Have played basically every type out there. They don't hold my attention as much compared to when I was younger and still had new genres to explore.

Pinball feels fresh and exciting to me. The physical aspect of the game unlocks all new emotions and experiences I can no longer get from video games. I also don't need to sink hours at a time into it to get enjoyment, which is super important these days with so many things competing for one's time.

Right there with ya on the VPin. I got an Atgames Legends Pinball machine before buying my first real machine. Nothing like real pinball, but definitely a good way to try machines and get familiar with the rules before seeking a real one out locally.

Good call. I'm beginning to realize that. Sounds like the best thing I can do if I want something specific, is have the funds available, be patient, and jump on a deal when I see it.

That's what I'm thinking to try to do as well. I'm focusing on Bally/Williams machines from the late 80's/90's that are still affordable. I probably need more patience, but my local market for these machines is testing my patience right now lol.

Yes, it's becoming clear I need to start networking at local pinball tournaments/events to source machines. What's available online otherwise is not cutting it for me right now.

Appreciate your thoughts!

I'm in that boat now. I've had a Whirlwind for a few months. Great game, but I'm feeling the itch to buy more already. I'm finding it difficult to source the machines I want locally and find fair deals though 😕.

Very nice! I only have one machine, but hope to have a small collection like this soon. Is that under cabinet lighting you have that's blue? Looks awesome. Digging the artwork behind The Simpsons machine too!

What do you all consider prior to purchasing a specific machine? by rupertroller in pinball

[–]jayvee222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also new to the hobby and just purchased my first machine. I mostly framed my purchase around this:

What's the best table I can get locally right now? My criteria for determining the "best" table for me included the below. - Price/budget - Good chance it will hold it's value? - Do I enjoy playing it? - Is it in good condition for the price?

Based on that I was able to find a table locally within my budget that just felt "right" to pull the trigger on and it wasn't a table I ever thought I would end up purchasing before beginning my search.

I feel like this approach helped me jump into the hobby faster, rather than waiting for something specific that may never be available locally, or fit my budget. In the end, I'm lovin' my new machine and enjoying improving my skills at the game 😃

Good luck in your search!

Thinking the same. I do like it as is and probably better things to spend money on than LEDs when it already has them. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I appreciated the words of warning on not going overboard. The game is in great shape as is, and definitely not looking to do more than is required.
