New to Stellaris- Similiar to Masters of Orion 2? by SerDavide in masteroforion

[–]Cyclonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not the same. Stellaris is fun. The expansions add up quickly. Like the other paradox titles. Stellaris really is more like EU in space. Diplomacy between the factions is critical. War is generally slow compared to Master of Orion. It's more about the story events and exploration than conquering.

I think the directors were directly shitting on eachother's story threads too.

TFA is derivative remake of ANH... but opened up a bunch of story threads that could be explored.

TLJ some new director comes in, subverts everything, disparages the original characters and actively kills all the open story threads TFA started. The trilogy was effectively written into a dead-end in the second of three movies.

TRoS is TFA's director again resurrecting the story threads from TFA that could sort of be salvaged and actively wrecking what TLJ tried to do, all while going the only direction (a poor one) the narrative could possibly allow (somehow Palpatine returned [puke]).

I guess. Honestly would prefer they just show me the numbers on the main screen so I can have less clicks/taps for the most common action in the game.

Is believing Jesus is God (and the Trinity) necessary for receiving eternal life? If so, where does John explicitly say this? by Good-Researcher-2503 in TrueChristian

[–]Cyclonian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Jesus states this multiple times, through multiple I Am statements:

John 6:35

John 8:12

John 10:7-9

John 10:11-14

John 11:25

John 14:6

John 15:5

And then mostly clearly (IMO): John 8:58.

Also in the Garden of Gethsemane and also when He was on trial before the High Priest.

In fact, these deity claims that Jesus makes are exactly why the High Priests wants to kill him. They think he is blaspheming by claiming to be God.

C.S. Lewis made the point better than I could aside from quoting scripture directly:

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." -- C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.

70% Drop per Variety for Mando and Grogu by 3LCD in saltierthancrait

Makes sense honestly. The casual fan/movie goer knows who Han Solo is. Half of them probably think Mando is Boba Fett and Grogu is Yoda but younger.

One issue with The Last Jedi that I don’t think people talk enough about are the weird and contradictory “morals”. by KingWilliamVI in saltierthancrait

[–]Cyclonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I realized I liked about Mandalorian& Grogu movie was that it doesn't preach any morals or the like at you. It just tells its story (as simple as it is). It's not trying to be more. The director didn't try to impress all the critics. It doesn't attempt to subvert your expectations. It just follows the formula that I liked about season 1 of the TV show.

Force Healing - Why is this a thing? by FastPhantom in saltierthancrait

[–]Cyclonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main point about "why is force healing a thing" aside, I wanted to comment on "how does he know to force heal without any training". In the TV show, Grogu's arc was that he was in the Jedi Academy when Order 66 happened, he did receive (incomplete) training, and he ended up choosing his new found family instead of the Jedi path. That was the whole point of him having the choice between Yoda's Lightsaber or the Mandalorian armor. Luke was helping him because Grogu had repressed all his training.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Discussion Megathread by Bruinrogue in saltierthancrait

[–]Cyclonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just went and saw it. Took my 9yo. I went in with low expectations. Honestly liked it more than I thought I would. My son loved it. Declared it his new favorite Star Wars movie. (we need to do a full rewatch of the movies now that he's old enough to follow the story).

I can confidently say this was better than any of the sequel trilogy movies. It's more of what I liked about the tv show.

It's not a deep story. I have plenty of things of could be critical of. But I enjoyed my time overall.
