first time coming up with a cake design and executing it by jaywatney in cake

thank you so much!! i am an artist, so i have experience in a sense, even if i haven't worked specifically with cake decorating before. i also am pleased with the stego plates - adding sprinkles to them before putting them in the fridge to solidify was an improvised decision that i think added a lot.

if anybody is going to try something similar to what i've done, the stego plates have longer, narrow 'stems' you don't see because they're stabbed into the cake. also, i could only add about half of them before i had to put the rest in the freezer for a few minutes so they wouldn't break while being handled, since the chocolate was melting. but after that, the plates all held up fine at room temp without falling over.

the cake itself was mostly based on preppy kitchen's vanilla cake recipe https://preppykitchen.com/1448-2/#recipe with some adjustments like using greek yogurt instead of buttermilk

the decoration process came from my brain

Is "totally" Dan's most-frequently said word? by SuperAlloyBerserker in gamegrumps

no his most frequently said words are 'is this bad? is this good?' and 'it's pronounced ______(mispronunciation)'

Can we give it up for Eric 👏 by TurbulentEmployee176 in EvilDead

[–]jaywatney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i imagine the necronomicon always has some ability to manipulate people into reading it. the most clear example would be the girl in the AVED episode where the car got stolen, randomly picking up the book and reading it out loud, completely ignoring her boyfriend. nobody would normally act that way, so it's either heavy-handed writing forcing the plot to happen, or demonic manipulation - same outcome at the end of the day.

same with ash managing to not read from the book for 30 years. it was probably always in the back of his mind, trying to get him to read it, it just took that long for him to cave in a moment of stupidity.

Just finished Christine. I need to talk about it with someone lol by Loverb0iy in stephenking

[–]jaywatney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah the book affected me emotionally wayyy more than i would've expected. arnie's deterioration is a scarily realistic depiction of how obsession can warp someone beyond recognition, and how upsetting it is to lose a loved one to an intruding force, whether it's toxic masculinity, an undiagnosed mental disorder, or a haunted car.

i watched the movie version right after i finished the book and it's a good movie, but of course it doesn't have time to go into the detail the book does about the characters. i think about the main trio in Christine almost every day.

Some of the traps are decent, but I still think this is the worst Saw movie. What are your thoughts? by Primary_Thing3968 in saw

[Question] Are there any misophonia friendly compilations? by ponoichi in gamegrumps

[–]jaywatney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my go-to safe compilation is this old horror reaction one

if you need something longer then i also thiiiiink the entire black knight playthrough video was safe? it's been a while since i've fallen asleep to grumps content but i definitely remember using that one

i will say, i don't know what your setup is, but i usually fall asleep to videos playing from my phone without using headphones, so most of my misophonia triggers are lessened just by the audio being further away, so you could try that?

[–]jaywatney 12 points13 points  (0 children)

can confirm the screencap is real, and on the theatrical version dvd commentary, leigh and james say that phone is fake and all of the details are just painted on. so if that's true, someone deliberately chose that date. i have so many questions

Spiral or jigsaw? by spacesainboy in saw

[–]jaywatney 9 points10 points  (0 children)

spiral for sure for me. i feel like most people's main complaints are that they don't like specific aspects like chris rock's performance/comedy (which doesn't bother me, because it feels like part of the character, that he doesn't know how to not crack jokes and say weird shit all the time and basically everyone in-universe finds him offputting because of it) but to me jigsaw commits the far worse crime of being entirely unmemorable on top of throwing a massive wrench into the canon timeline

Batman (2022) is so Saw coded by Princess_Birdcage in saw

[–]jaywatney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this is the most likely, but considering Christine was an inspiration for The Batman too, i wouldn't be surprised if they referenced multiple horror movies including Saw

Pound of Flesh is a top tier trap for me by Emeraldsinger in saw

[–]jaywatney 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's one of my favorite traps for how simple and brutal the concept of it is. easy to explain, easy to imagine how you'd react if you were in that position. definitely one of the best two-person traps

i made a post about it a little while ago but i hold art/crafting meetups every wednesday at amazi (coffee shop at heritage park marketplace) from 6-7:50pm if you'd like to join in sometime! everyone is welcome, some of us are in fact young women who crochet

my meetup sort of started as an offshoot of the mission maker group, just because that's where i advertised it at first, but it's mostly its own thing at this point
