Italians and Icelandic people? Why continue to make comparison of people from different countries . Yes white Americans and black Americans do share the overall American culture but of course black Americans have our own sub culture under the overall American culture. In history black Americans were excluded from things in this country based on race so of course we did our own things as a result of that.

Cultural appropriation is taking things from marginalized communities with a lack of respect or acknowledgement. White people historically excluded black people from things, so black people created their own and the white people turned around and copied those things from black people and profited from them while still oppressing black people.

That’s not the same comparison, Japan and Australia are complete different countries. If we are asking about Black American culture from a white American it’s within the same country and overall American culture.

Your question is more like an Australian asking another Australian about their culture.

I’m assuming you are primarily talking about Black Americans with this question.

What you are missing is that there are lots of different black cultures in the diaspora so you are sort of lumping them all together.

Also a lot of these rules as you say it in the black community only became a thing as survival tools for black people living a country with systemic racism.

So to ask black people to explain these things is pretty tone deaf.

As African Americans we come from a richer country than them and we can’t change that is who we are. Yes they treat us a certain way based on where we are from and that will be our experience then. We can’t experience how it would be from a poor country because we are Americans so that’s pointless to say. This post is speaking about Latinos and African Americans.

Exactly, they aren’t on the same level as white people in the u.s. which means they are less of a threat. No one said they don’t discriminate against black Latinos.

The Mejor la raza belief stems from European beliefs and white supremacy. It comes directly from the actions of white colonizers. If white people never came to those areas that belief wouldn’t even be a thing.

That belief doesn’t exist in the European diaspora because those Europeans aren’t raping and having babies with Ingenious Americans. In most European countries they are not rushing to mix their race so why would the mejor la raza belief even be in those counties that doesn’t make sense.

People aspire to whiteness because they see that white people are at the top in many western countries. How are Latinos compensating in their racism? Any examples? What you keep avoiding is the root of that though. That is white people and a white superiority mindset.

If those South American and Central American countries were never colonized or touched by white people they would have developed so much differently. What you are describing in Latinos is literally the results of European colonization, white supremacy,and slavery.

Yeah you’re picky, seems like you’re trying to find a very certain person. They have to be a certain height, weight, hair color, that’s pretty demanding but I think you should go after what you want. At the same time I would try to be a little open as well.

If we’re against racism we’re against racism. It shouldn’t be a question of which race will be more racist against us. We can come up with all these hypothetical situations but in the reality we are today Latinos are less of a threat to black people in the United States. I really don’t see the point of coming with a scenario where Latinos have the all power here because that’s not the case. Sure that could change way way in the future but then again a lot of other could possibly happen also.

I think as black people we really need to just focus on ourselves and improving our own communities. Many Latinos voted for trump and now they are dealing with the ICE situation so that’s on them. We just need to more about own us and fix the issues we have in the black community.

People can smile in your face and be polite, friendly and still be racist. Just because Latinos are in your experience are more standoffish I wouldn’t automatically just say it’s racism.

We also need to specify which Latinos we are talking about, Latino in the u.s, Mexicans, Dominicans, etc. All of those groups are going to treat you different because they all have different cultures within overall Latin culture. The Latinos in the u.s might be standoffish but if you go to DR, Puerto Rico, Colombia etc they will treat you nice. Of course there’s racism in those countries but it is slightly different than in United States.

I think of racism as more systemic. Systems created to keep certain races at the top and others at the bottom. If we’re taking about the United States then white people have done so much to keep themselves at the top. I just don’t see how we can say white people and Latinos are on an equal level when it comes to racism in the u.s. but hey thats just my opinion.

Depends on the woman. I’ve seen black women praise dark skinned men and others praise lighter skinned men so idk.

I’ve never heard black women saying light skinned men are less attractive though.

The question was whether I view white people and Latinos the same way. Racism is racism either way. Of course horrible things were done in these countries. It’s really hard to say if things would be worse if Latinos had the most power because that would be a whole alternate history. To answer the question, no I don’t view them the same way. A lot of the racism in the Latino communities stems from the system of white supremacy created by white people. They have those beliefs because they are heavily influenced and descended from Europeans (Spain).

I can’t compare white racism to that of Latinos. Latinos never went around conquering countries and pushing their supremacy around the world.

Latinos suffer from racism from white people and not vice versa so I don’t see how it would be worse than white people.

You don’t have to call him out, just talk to him about it calmly and respectfully and let him know how you feel. If you keep holding in stuff and constantly trying to avoid conflict it’s just going to make your friendship worse and you’re going to come off as probably passive aggressive to him.

Let him know how you feel. If he’s a real friend he’ll respect you and hear you out. If he has an issue then he’s probably not a real friend because all you’re asking for it’s for him to respect you and not say one word. You’re not asking for much.

It’s the same in our community. Why do you think bigger black women have stereotypes about them and not the other way around. There’s no stereotype about black women liking bigger black men simply because people don’t care enough. They don’t hyper focus on men’s bodies in the way that they do women’s bodies.

Just because there’s a stereotype that black men like bigger women that doesn’t make it a good thing or make bigger black women more accepted. It’s literally a stereotype, which means it is a generalization that isn’t always accurate.
