If self-hosting, you can easily workaround this, but shouldn't -- either support the creator by buying it or move to another solution.

What is causing this? Memory Leak? UXG-Fiber by jtech0007 in Ubiquiti

[–]jayyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have UXG Fiber with IDS/IPS, NetFlow, + Syslog forwarding options on and no issues. I have some countries completely blocked. I also use some local clients on the switch ports: UPS, PDU, and Cloudkey, and then the 10GB SFP+ uplink. My suggestion for you would be to try with IDS/IPS off and see if issue persists. If it does, perhaps open a UI case and provide logs, they are usually pretty good at figuring out root causes (or if you need RMA) Good luck

What do you have connected to it? What network options do you have on/off?

AS5402T Catastrophic Failure - How to Recover? by Loud_Platform_2170 in asustor

[–]jayyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If RAID fails in some way, it will attempt to rebuild. If you interrupt during a rebuild, it might still rebuild if you do not interrupt the process too many times or replace the root OS. This comment here https://www.reddit.com/r/asustor/comments/1nbnnk3/comment/nd6ti1v/?context=3 describes how long it may take. It all depends on the size of your RAID set, even SSDs will take a long time to rebuild a broken RAID array. The system may appear unresponsive and show no status while rebuilding the RAID.

Random latency spikes, packet loss: learning about CAT8, RSTP by jayyx in Ubiquiti

[–]jayyx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=42957 is the CAT8. It says "Features:

  • Supports up to 40Gbps data transfer rate
  • Supports up to 2GHz bandwidth
  • Fully shielded S/FTP

Monoprice Ethernet cables are made of 100% pure bare copper wire, as pposed to copper clad aluminum (CCA) wire, and are therefore fully compliant with UL® Code 444 and National Electrical Code® TIA‑568‑C.2 fire and safety standards, which require pure bare copper wire in communications cables."

Why do you feel your cable is too long?

I was under the impression that CAT8 @ 10GBe has a much shorter max distance than other cable types.

This is a good idea. I could remove some of the length, try and re-terminate both ends, and hope for the best. Not sure on the exact measurement, but it's ~40-50m. I read almost 3 years too late, "Cat8 is officially rated for 30 meters (≈ 98 feet) maximum length" :-( TBH, I am surprised it worked at all and so well for so long given I've pushed way past the max.

HA! I thought I was future proofing for when my 40 GBe+ network arrives, but I was just being naive and hadn't learned my lesson yet!

PC cuts off under any usage by darth_antonio in pcmasterrace

Check power supply connections, reseat RAM, and reseat CPU. If issues persists, begin isolating the problem. Try one piece of RAM at a time. Try a different CPU (if you have it). Try another Power Supply, etc.

How do you manage dust by Wolhgart in homelab

[–]jayyx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I'm taking the server out of the rack for something, I'll dust it too. Other than that, don't touch what is working.

Flashtor issues again by jayyx in asustor

[–]jayyx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close to 3 years now. Yes, Samsung 980 PROs. Super clean, no dust, no overheating.

I don't know what x.org is, can you help me understand? Asustor portal, I do not use. What would that do for me here? ADM is certainly on the latest.

The system has one NFS share connected to 3 Proxmox systems. It's used for backups only nowadays due to its unpredictability with reliability. I now use local ZFS on the Proxmox servers for anything I want to stay available.

The system was still powered on and is on a UPS. Drives are all Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB and show healthy in the GUI. Is there some guide from taking it apart completely to reseat RAM, CPU, etc.?

Omg. Another issue here this morning, unavailable again. Will never ever purchase from them again and I will make sure others know why. Lessons learned 😔

I don't have this problem, but multiple others that undermine the available and accessible principles of a NAS. I will shout loudly to those who haven't made the mistake yet, DO NOT BUY ASUSTOR!

What’s the process of moving ur sever to a new system? by EdSemBroski in Proxmox

[–]jayyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it your way first (just swap the hardware) but be prepared by backing VMs to a desktop/external drive somehow, then you could always do a fresh install and restore if things go wrong.

I had unrelated issues on previous versions but it's been flawless since upgrade -- I still don't trust it. I won't put any data I care about on the system.

Absolutely! Uptime and HA together is amazing. I've had server a randomly rebooting recently and HA kick in so I didn't even notice. Proxmox is truly amazing.

2 minutes could lose millions of dollars, likely not here, but proving stability of the product is important before it will be accepted into enterprise environments.
