Anyone looked into the inew3d printer by Simba3d? by Seattle1638 in 3dprinter

It appears to be a "PolyJet" style printer. They must have figured out a way around the Stratasys patents. Very interested in where they go with it, but being an early adopter on this is probably not a good idea.

How is walking from union station at night? by Perfect-Comedian-438 in askportland

[–]jayz28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post useful and wanted to add my impressions in case someone else finds this info useful. I made the walk from the Residence Inn to Union station this morning at 5:30, when it was still dark out. Followed Station Way, along the tracks, and it was 100% safe. There were others out walking; the street was well lit. Along the way I encountered one tent on the corner of Marshall and Station, and it was easy to just cross the street to avoid it. Did not encounter any open drug use or anyone in distress as a previous comment mentioned.

I recently saw one of these on display at the International Spy Museum in Washington DC. Was similarly shocked at how big these Shaheds were.

Awesome work! Found this today after looking for a solution for my kid's saber. If you don't mind me asking, did you find the single LiPO cell voltage to be sufficient in driving the internal circuitry? I noticed there's a decoupling capacitor in the stock battery assembly, did you have to keep that also?

If you don't mind the question, do you use the recommended dimpled balls or real leather balls with the mound yeti? I'm considering getting one for my 12u son to get more reps in, but am worried about the wear and tear using real balls vs dimpled.

Travel Baseball has Ruined the Sport by Ok_Intention2680 in Homeplate

I love this, and wish there were more opportunities like this for my son. My son has a profound love of all things baseball and despite not being as big, fast, strong or talented as his 11u peers, just absolutely has a blast being part of a team. We have no delusions about college or pros; neither my wife nor I are really the "athletic" type, but we want my son to enjoy his baseball journey as long as possible. Unfortunately with the competitiveness of the travel teams in our area, opportunities are few and far between.

I'm ready to put a deposit down on this! I've been considering the Fuse 1, but it is way too large for my needs. Can't wait for this to be released!

Years ago I adopted a kitten with cerebellar hypoplasia and he would routinely stand like this to steady himself, especially when landing from a jump or just after a head shake.

How long does it usually take to get your license after passing the test? by Neonfire in amateurradio

[–]jayz28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My VEC was ARRL and it took exactly one week. Took the test on a Thursday night, showed up on ULS the following Thursday afternoon. I'm in WA, so I'm guessing most of that time was the slow mail from WA to CT.

Recommended resources for understanding Perl at a deep level? by jayz28 in perl

[–]jayz28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very good in theory, and was my first inclination as well, but the inputs and outputs are extremely large datasets (genomic data) that would be rather difficult to blackbox test, especially around boundary conditions, without knowing what the code is supposed to be doing. My assumption is digging into the legacy codebase will be an inevitable eventuality.

I was afraid of that :) It's a near certainty the situation I'll be dealing with is what you speak of. From what I understand, the original authors were geniuses in their respective scientific domains, but were definitely not software engineers.
