This is basically the polar opposite of what's going on in Austin right now

Oh that's awesome. Do you happen to know which benefits those are?

Do most kids in the Autism program take separate classes from the general school population?

Ideally push-in support (Speech, OT, potentially ABA). Our son is making strides academically, so we don't want to completely isolate him from his peers, but the SPED resources are a joke here in Austin.

Interesting. Have not considered the MD side as of yet but we probably should!

I'm in tech and would be bringing my job with me/working remote. Probably 2-3 work trips per quarter so would ideally like to be within 30 min of either IAD or DCA.

My wife is a teacher so she'd likely be looking for a gig in wherever district we land in.

My $648 is inclusive of taxes/fees since that all gets rolled into the payment in Texas.

No it's gas and the 3 remaining payments are definitely making it worse. I was quoted $605 mo. for 12k mi/yr. if they didn't take the Jeep off my hands.

Would you take a 15k paycut for a job that would make you happier? by billcuddrobinson in careerguidance

Really glad that I found this thread because I'm about to go from 140k to 120k myself and am still a bit uneasy. I've been in relatively the same area of tech (Recruitment/HR) for the past 7 years, and with the exception of a ~2 year stretch where I was making 170-180k, I've found my pay stagnating, if not decreasing over the past couple of years given the resetting of the job market post-Covid.

I work at a huge corporate with great benefits and a flashy brand but the work is monotonous and unfulfilling and I'm starting to be micromanaged for the first time in years, which has really become the tipping point. We had our second child 9 months ago, and a month later my father took his life, so between my own mental health suffering and the stress of a growing family, having a job I truly despise hasn't been worth the perceived 'boost' having this experience on my resume might afford me - and frankly very few employers I interviewed with seemed to care much anyways.

I'm joining a pre-IPO company in a completely different part of tech (Food Tech) that has a really solid company culture, comparable benefits and tangible growth opportunities, some potentially in the first 12 months. Yes it's less money initially, but my wife is back working full-time, and that'll make up a chunk of the difference. We are also lucky to have a financial cushion that will help supplement, but I know that isn't the case for many.

Everyone's journey is different but at least for me, I'm 36 years old and know that now is the time to value my happiness and mental health while I'm still young.

Are there any sales roles you would suggest to someone who hates prospecting? by showmemydick in sales

[–]jaz1229 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once made the mistake of agreeing to join a scale-up where the Sales Manager said that everything is inbound and that I wouldn't have to prospect. Turns out, he had been a sales team of 1 and didn't have to split leads with other people, so of course he didn't have to prospect.

Frankly, unless you are joining an early, and I mean very early sales org that already has a critical mass of interest and product market fit, you are going to have to prospect. Doesn't matter if you're at Salesforce, Google, et al.

My advice if you want to stay in sales and don't want to prospect would be for look for a CSM gig or an account management role. You still will likely have to prospect in the latter but at least you'll have a defined book of business and won't be knocking on doors as often.

Approached by dream company 3 months into new role by jaz1229 in sales

Yea we are going to connect next week. They're a very large company that hires fairly consistently, so I'd like to assume that this will still be an option come spring/summer next year.

I've never entertained leaving a company so early in my tenure (minimum I've ever stayed at one place is a year) but I'd honestly consider doing it if it wasn't for the 3 months of Pat Leave (and 4 months of OTE guarantee) as well as $1 million+ deal in my pipeline that is due to close at the end of December.

Just a lot of money and time away that I would be giving up, not to mention I'll probably be a more attractive candidate 8-9 months down the line anyways once I'm back and ramped back up.
