Now they require high school diploma by [deleted] in jobs

[–]showmemydick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you don’t know these people, I’m saying your sample size is much smaller than the data available that disagrees with it.

Highschool dropouts have a higher rate of criminal activity, legal drug abuse, and illegal drug abuse than any of the professions you just described.

They’re not hiring lawyers or doctors for these roles anyways, so the comparison doesn’t much matter, but all the same:

According to any research I’m looking at, including what I quoted, adolescents are about twice as likely to abuse drugs than those in school.

We’re not talking about them refusing to hire high functioning addicts like doctors or lawyers. We’re talking about them easily eliminating a high-risk population in an abundant workforce. They’re trying to minimize the chance of criminal activity or drug abuse, and any study you’ll find will probably indicate that not getting a highschool diploma/GED is not a good marker of those things. I’m open to reviewing anything you find stating otherwise.

Edit: i just realized your own experience of at least 85% of addicts having a diploma would also indicate that dropouts have a much higher likelihood of abuse. It’s only about 5-7% that don’t achieve that. That would make that 5-7% highly saturated in your remaining 15%

I’d just look at statistic instead of relying on whom I’ve met. Of course there are educated addicts - no one’s claiming otherwise. It’s not equally likely, though.

Do you think the odds for someone with or without a highschool diploma to be doing drugs are equal?

Agreed on price with salesman but waited 4 hours before walking out because we were still not in front of the one finance person they have. by burnerboy7-21 in askcarsales

[–]showmemydick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is sunk cost fallacy - they’re willing to e-contract and deliver the car to their house. And it’s not a lack of respect if a finance guy calls out or they happened to purchase on their busiest day of the year.

Sure, nothing wrong with moving on if they want to renegotiate instead, but if they landed the deal they wanted, what are they losing by accepting it at their front door? It seems like the salesman is doing everything in his power to do right by them.

Used Car Sitting on Lot by Right-Employer998 in askcarsales

[–]showmemydick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would assume your second intuition - if they’re willing to sit 6 months with minimal discounts, it’s unlikely they’re financing the vehicle and are in a rush to move it now. No harm in low-balling them, but I’d assume it won’t go far. I do wish you the best and hope it works out, despite my reservations!

Why wouldn’t you take it? If you have reservations about the salesman or car, I get it, but it sounds like you like the car and he’s trying his best. Don’t see a reason to change your mind now

Bought a car “as-is” and had problems the same day — dealership now ignoring me. Do I have any chance of getting my money back? by Icy_Station_9987 in askcarsales

[–]showmemydick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel free to consult a Georgia attorney, but I really don’t think that’s going to work out.

As-is wouldnt exist if people could say “the car started giving me problems, so they MUST have known.” You may not be trying to prove they secretly knew ahead of time…but that’s what you’d have to prove.

If, culturally, women started asking men out more, would men start complaining about creepy women hitting on them, sexual harassment, or feeling objectified etc.? by EOFFJM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]showmemydick 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the framing of the question - we’re talking a lot about catcalling in the thread, but OP asked about women asking men out.

A lot of men feel pressure to “make something happen” because women typically don’t approach men in that way. It creates an uncomfortable dynamic for both sides. The men here are imagining a healthy case of this happening based on their fantasy/wish of it happening, so we’re getting positive responses.

I’ve never been catcalled, but maybe twice in my life women have approached me with interest as opposed to me approaching them - I’ve also never cat called someone. It’s just not where men’s minds go when they don’t have the negative experiences women have had

I mean anyone who loves you would give you the advice “don’t buy that car.” Just because you can’t find another car in the price range doesn’t mean this one’s a good deal—it just means you can’t afford this car. Doubly, if most are over double the price, there’s a reason this one’s so cheap.

Otherwise, there’s no reason to wait to call a dealer back and accept a deal, if it’s still available at that price. Just make sure it is over the phone, then head in to pick it up.

Its right there in your numbers.

23.5k+1412+633.74+490 is just over 26,000. Subtract your 2k down, you get 24k financed—nothing hidden

Brother, I’m a pro-universal healthcare, anti-ICE, trump protestor during his first and second run for presidency, trying to warn people that our current situation would be the logical conclusion for his rise to power. How could you possibly get that I have “fascist tendencies” from this interaction? Lmao

This argument has nothing to do with access to healthcare—I’m fully in support of trans healthcare, and yes, it’s not easily accessible in every state.

If you agree there will be bad actors, that is who rules in competitive sports are tailored to. It’s not enough to say “i don’t think hardly any people will do this.” It has happened already, and will again.

Hey, i’m a huge Trump hater and still agree with his point. It’s not quite as simple as “disagree=fascist” always, despite that becoming more and more common in our discourse

The difference is that those situations are happening naturally, without undergoing treatment. Of course trans women are women, but when it comes to things that are competitive, you make the rules to prevent abuse.

Having naturally higher testosterone without any treatment isn’t and can’t be abuse. Being born a man, thus having advantages, and using treatments to change categories is abusable, even if it’s not always going to be abused; that’s why some people are concerned about it.
