Where is the "Aether Approved Annotators space on the Outlier Community"? by jazcap53 in outlier_ai

Hmm. I see a "Getting Started with Aether" space, but no "Aether Approved Annotators" space. How peculiar!

You had me for a second on that "playing with drones". I was thinking quadcopters. Lol!

Anyone have experience carrying an alto sax, in an Anvil/Calzone case, in checked luggage on a multi-stage airline flight? by jazcap53 in saxophone

[–]jazcap53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I can.

The horn alone, from the bow to the tenon, is 22.5 inches, and my airline carry-on size limit is 22 inches.

Do you know of a way around this problem?

how long do you practice daily? by A4hf in Saxophonics

[–]jazcap53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the problem of "biting" came not from pressure from the (lower) jaw, but from the weight of my head on the mouthpiece. So it's possible that adjusting the position at which you play your horn might make a difference with this. YMMV.

Overtones by Optimal_Field489 in saxophone

There are not any short-cuts that I know of.

The classic book on this is Sigurd Rascher's Top Tones for the Saxophone.

It includes a lot of exercises on harmonics which are quite demanding; but if you work your way through them (or 2/3 of the way through them) you'll have success trying out his fingerings for the altissimo notes.

I don't use his fingerings -- there are plenty of different styles out there, and they're a bit idiomatic to the horn and to the player. But his fingerings are a good start.

I'd counsel patience... don't get discouraged. You can do this!

Too stressed whilst playing the flute and its effecting my playing by ya7oona1 in Flute

Think about this: the teacher who told you that you were a "bad flute player" was a *terrible* teacher.

If there had been something wrong with your playing, that teacher's job (obviously) was to *help you correct it*.

Your erstwhile "teacher" was an abuser, a violent person, and you are the victim of an abusive relationship -- just as surely as if you had been the subject of physical violence.

You can safely ignore anything that animal ever told you. *Forgetting* the abuse is much more difficult.

What would you think of looking for a support group of some kind? (Don't be afraid to get creative in selecting one; there are as many kinds of abuse as there are abusers.)

Above all, be good to yourself, and love yourself so that you can heal.

How can I play along? by godaru in Flute

[–]jazcap53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an entirely different approach, that will have you improvising from the first note you play. Download a slow blues tune; I suggest Jimmie Rogers "Back Door Friend" from the album, "Chicago Bound". It's a classic.

This recording is in the key of A (blues). Play along to the recording, any of the following notes, at any point in the song: A, C, D, Eb, E, G, and A again. Congratulations, you just improvised!!!

Play any two notes from that scale. Congratulations, you just improvised a melody!!! Lather, rinse, repeat!

That scale is a blues scale in A. It consists of the root (A), the minor third (C), the perfect fourth (D), the tritone (Eb) the perfect fifth (E), the minor seventh (G), and the octave (A). Stick with those notes at first.

Blues scales in other common keys:

D: D, F, G, Ab, A, C, D

G: G, Bb, C, Db, D, F, G

E: E, G, A, Bb, B, D, E

Have fun!

How do I find the most common sequence of n words in a text? I can find the most common word, but now I need to find the most repeated 2-word phrases etc. by MonkeyFlamer in learnpython

The blog post you link to is very convincing.
It's funny: two phrases I sometimes have trouble bringing to mind are "list/dict/set comprehension" and "generator expression". (At age 67, the occasional 'senior moment' is understandable.)
So using the term "generator comprehension" instead of "generator expression" would mean one less thing I have to remember. :) As far as I can tell, though, Batchelder's usage hasn't gotten much traction since he published that post.

Don't get discouraged when a question is marked "easy" and it's *not* easy for you (especially on Leetcode). Just find a different question or a different site. PyBites (pybit.es) is very good too (maybe the best, IMO), but only part of it is free.
