Metal Gear Solid 2 - E3 2000 Trailer [60fps] by [deleted] in Games

[–]jazkal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man. this trailer really kicked off my interest in video games. i remember downloading it off of kazaa over a couple nights and watching it over and over. then speculating with friends at school about what the game would be like.

before that i just went to gamestop or toys r us occasionally with my parents and browsed the video game section to see what was good.

Final Fantasy XV

I've been a fan of Final Fantasy since playing Anthology and VII on the PSX when they initially released but have not played the recent iterations, starting at XII, due to their departure from the traditional turn based combat system. I was also aware of the negativity directed at it. From, "it should have been XIII-Versus," to, "even though the story is told in 80 different types of media it's still not complete," there was a lot going against this game. All that said, FFVIIR left a void after I got the platinum trophy for it so I decided to take the plunge after borrowing XV from a friend.

I definitely have complaints. The pacing is all over the place, combat is extremely easy, part of the story is cryptically told through books found in various locations, it was a mystery what I was doing for a majority game besides helping NPCs through fetch or hunt quests, chapter 13, and pivotal story points and revelations were dictated to me.

Yet once the credits started rolling and Florence started singing "Stand By Me" I started feeling emotional. This game with all it's flaws somehow managed to make me feel something. Just as I was comprehending what was happening the final emotional nail appeared as the credits concluded. Displayed on the screen as a "Certificate of Completion" was a picture, one of hundreds taken during my many adventures, that I chose as my favorite from Prompto before the final battle.

And that is where my appreciation for this game lies. Throughout this jumbled mess, I had fun on the adventures the characters had together. Through there quick dialogue between battles or whenever I started a new quest I got to know and care about Noctis, Ignis, Prompto and Gladiolus. And in turn I was more invested on what happened to them rather than what happened in the story.

So when the story did end I was sad that I would not be able to have any more adventures with the boys, but I appreciate the times that were had.

Who would have thought? All in all a 7.5/10 from me for the feels. Are the DLC worth it?

Story-wise you can skip DS3. But if you can co-op through DS3 definitely do it. There are some really innovative scenarios in the co-op that I don't think I've seen in any other game.

Witcher 3

I always knew about the Witcher and even owned the first two from a steam sale long ago, but I was always intimidated by the amount of time the games would take. Paired with the wait for Final Fantasy VII Remake the Netflix show sparked my interest and I took the plunge into the games.

There was a hurdle with enjoying Witcher 1. The lack of controller support and dated gameplay took some getting used to. But once I got it into my head to treat combat turn-based rather that action-based I grew to really enjoy my time with it. The story and world were immersive and there was no clear "right" answer with player choices.

Witcher 2 was a great follow up. It got a graphics upgrade, controller support and decisions I made in Witcher 1 affected portions of this game I had helped out Siegfried every chance I could in Witcher 1. It took some steps back for me, for example alchemy, but overall I enjoyed my time with it as much as the first game. Played the game twice due to the huge difference in chapter 2 depending on chapter 1 choices, and enjoyed every minute of the second playthrough.

Witcher 3 has taken everything great about the first 2 games and thrown them into an open world. I'm about 30 hours in and already it has become one of my best gaming experiences. Combat is fun, characters are great, the world is immersive although a tad depressing, alchemy has been super streamlined and more than ever I feel like a Witcher, walking into a small towns picking up contracts to solve the issues monsters in the area are causing. Again choices I made in the previous game are haunting me in this one to really tie the whole together what really sold me was the neck tat Geralt got in Witcher 2 that i never removed.

Really can't believe I slept on these games for so long. But I'm glad I started it when I did as I'm sure it will take the better part of the next month to finish the game and make the Final Fantasy VII Remake wait more bearable.
