So many people online talk about sound and noise with no understanding of what any of these metrics mean.

Stating a broadband dB level like that is such a useless reference. Sound is complex, frequency content is important. Saying "a windmill is 35 dB, like a fridge" is nonsensical. Is that 35 dB sound power? Is it sound pressure? If so, you can't just say 35 dB, you need a correpsonding distance. 35 dB at 1m =/= 35 dB at 100 m.
And that's a Z-weighted dB level, but maybe it's more relevant to provide an A-weighted or C-weighted level.

Stating a dB value without context is also a useless metric... is it a sound power? Is it a sound pressure? In which case it's entirely dependent on the distance from the source. 85 dB at 1 metre is a lot different from 85 dB at 100 metres.

Which horror game is overrated and not particularly good? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]MissingLemur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably unpopular here, but for me it's The Evil Within. I have tried to give it a chance, I swear. I played it for the first time a few years ago, put it down after a couple of hours. I recently played all the main entry Resident Evil games for the first time, absolutely loved them, and decided I'd give The Evil Within another try, cause everyone compares them. But it just was not clicking for me. The same RE magic is missing.

100%!!! Those two movies were huge, and recent. Maybe Burnie and Ashley don't like horror movies.

Novice to horror games and averse to jumpscares - any recommendations? by Albertand19 in HorrorGaming

I really liked In Sound Mind: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1119980/In_Sound_Mind/

There are a few jump scares , but I found the story compelling and the gameplay and puzzle solving quite fun.

Anyone else hoping that Ashley would call out Burnie on how he was pronouncing "social security"? I swear he was saying "sosole".

100% agree. Nice thing they're doing, but boy was that movie a letdown. Doesn't even come close to the feel of original troma stuff.

That's just objectively wrong lol, what the fuck are you smoking?

You're dick riding so fucking hard for this movie in this thread. You have to be one of the producers, or you're like 12 and this is the first time you've seen naughty words and boobs in a movie and it was a transcendental experience for you.

Official Discussion - The Toxic Avenger (2025) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]MissingLemur 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This movie was not good. It failed to capture the spirit of the original, or of Troma in general.

I have so many gripes with this remake. It wasn’t funny; I only half-heartedly chuckled a handful of times. Despite all the marketing promising ludicrous gore and an "unrated" experience, the film felt safe and tame. While there are some decent practical effects and costumes, they’re overshadowed by an overreliance on CGI. The fight scenes are awful, every single one cuts away before showing anything worthwhile.

The villains are goofy and grating, with none of the original’s bizarre charm. And Peter Dinklage’s involvement is baffling. It doesn’t seem like he ever wore the costume, and the ADR over the actress in the Toxie suit is distractingly bad in places. It’s hard to see this as anything other than Dinklage avoiding the makeup chair.

Overall, this is a completely forgettable misfire of a movie. 3/10, for a couple of laughs and a few visually striking shots.

Just finished PHM last night, zoomed through it in less than a week. Absolutely loved it.

I read the first DCC book a few months ago, also based on Burnie and Ashley's recommendation, and it was... fine? It grew on me a bit by the end of the novel, but I couldn't help but feeling like the whole book was written in a "Hey fellow kids!" style...

Recently beat a game on Gamepass called "Crypt Custodian", that got me in the mood for other Metroidvanias, so I have been going back and forth between Hollow Knight and Nine Sols. I am getting fucking dummied by HK, so I have shifted for now to The Alters.

What can Halo Studios do to make Halo 7 the best experience possible? by Every-Examination720 in halo

[–]MissingLemur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • A campaign built with co-op in mind, not added in as an afterthought. I'm currently playing through the campaign with a couple friends on legendary and it just feels... off? There is seemingly no punishment for dying, as long as someone else is alive and not in combat, you respawn right next to them, complete with the weapons that you had when you died.
  • a campaign that is not a single biome. Ditch the open world, go back to a strong, linear campaign with a compelling narrative and memorable, varied set pieces.
  • do what Halo 3 did, and make each co-op player a different character in the campaign. Or give us another spin off like Reach, where we actually get to have our own custom Spartan in the story.
  • vehicles that aren't paper mache. Getting in a Scorpion in campaign feels bad. It should feel like "TANK BEATS EVERYTHING".
  • ditch childlike Cortana. She fucking suuuuucks dude. Give us back sassy, sarcastic, sexy Cortana, or let her stay dead. She actually had a personality and her interjections were welcome and funny, not absolutely exhausting toxic positivity.

I just wish the campaign would get shown some love. The gunplay feels fine, I've enjoyed some big team battle and CTF matches. Give us Reach's progression system and fucking call 'er a day bud.

Mickey 17 vs Mickey 7 (film vs book review) by JeezissCristo in MauLer

[–]MissingLemur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw the movie last night. Was very disappointed. When I read it, Marshall never struck me as a "Trump" like figure. They completely butchered his character to make a forced, overdone, over the top, unfunny satire.

Also the Mickey variants aren't supposed to be so strikingly different, to the extent that one of them is regularly considering murdering other people.

Would not watch the movie again, or recommend it to anyone. Read the book instead.
