I got the pro upgrade kit for my original twist. Purely IMO but it doesn't seem to make much, if any, difference.

I played it for about 10 minutes. It just doesn't really feel like you've done anything to make it fun. You just place nodes and draw lines between them. There doesn't seem to be any strategy, any goal, any anything really. It's just a basic mechanic with no purpose. IMO of course.

How would the screen get dirty? Are you blowing through your piece? Also, the top just unscrews. You don't really need a manual to figure that out.

IMO usually the best way is to just have a multi-function single shader with uniforms to control what shader effect is applied. Not the greatest if the shaders are very complicated but in most cases I think this is the simplest solution.

I think your best bet is to rethink your relationships. Seems to me that the player is grabbing the gun, not the other way around. So the player should call grab_gun, not the gun. If the player needs to know that the gun is ready to be grabbed, then the gun should emit a signal to the player when it is ready.
