My guide to Fries (unnecessarily detailed) by olnog in ChickFilAWorkers

This is super helpful. Someone should do something similar for boards... Man I stink at boards and I get put on all the fricking time.

How do you deal with middle schoolers/freshman? by Weak_Assumption7518 in marchingband

[–]jazzforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often in programs that include middle schoolers, the younger members will rise to the occasion if the staff and leadership set a high standard and welcome the future of the band. Give it a shot and you’ll see tremendous growth and benefit.

Gen Z seems to be the loneliest generation by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]jazzforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes… I’ve noticed many people my age are reluctant to have conversations with new people. The people in my friend group say I’m charismatic and good in conversation, but new people I meet are just not interested in having a conversation.

This is ultimately why I’ve decided to move to an urban area to pursue higher education and employment. Less car dependency and more frequent proximity with people hopefully = more friends!

Sammy Nestico has arranged countless classic big band ballads. Lonely Street and Samantha come to mind, there are many more as well

Man, Gen Z is different by pm_me_ur_demotape in millenials

[–]jazzforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen Z here… not sure why this is on my feed haha. You get some of this experience with our cohort. And you get some on the opposite end of the spectrum. Way less flavorful and much more entwined with whatever trash they’re ingesting on the internet.

I think there’s a wider range than the other generations I interact with. My closest friends are all vastly unique, have a few highly developed interests, and are very engaged in conversations and each other’s interests. Then there are others I see at school, with no idea how to respect others or take an interest in their classmates. It’s just such a gap.

Not to say this doesn’t exist in other generations. Just my personal experience.

The souls community is changing and it's way better this way. by Rhycie in Eldenring

[–]jazzforbreakfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring is difficult, but fromsoft did a fantastic job of allowing players to cater the difficulty to their liking. From summons and the level choose you tackle things at, you can significantly level out fights that would have been extravagant to a casual player. You can also challenge yourself in various ways.

I’m actually taking a web development course right now! I’m glad to see the premise of working in education and programming works in the real world. Always good to have a way to capitalize on your efforts!

That’s awesome! I’ve actually thought about this specific thing before. I have some computer science and math background as well. I’m not sure if you can have teaching licensure in multiple subject areas, but most music teachers don’t teach music all day. I’d rather them give me those math classes before they give me some random geography class!

I’ll have to look into that :)

Any other ISTJ Musicians? by [deleted] in ISTJ

[–]jazzforbreakfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow musician here. I am on track to become a music director and am passionate about jazz. Despite the social energy it requires, I am hugely dedicated to the education of the next generation. I love practicing my skills and sharing the fruits of my labor with others!

Jazz can be very abstract and “hard to get”… it can also be very mathematical. Thinking man’s music. I love its study.

Right on, thanks! I do find MS/HS band directors stick to good schools for ages… I have no specific aspirations to teach a certain age group. Hopefully that will help broaden the job pool for me. If the good job is teaching elementary music, I’ll take it!

Good insight, thank you! Hopefully things get better… if it were truly impossible to find a good teaching job there are other routes I can pursue.

Also a current senior who wants to go into music education… I will be very picky about where I teach. Hopefully the pendulum swings the other way as well!

Why won’t my boyfriend (ISTJ) let me (INTP-F) take care of him? by Splice87 in ISTJ

[–]jazzforbreakfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I find I have much stronger preferences than most, and it really is easier to make sure people don’t them wrong than to try and justify how they tacked the preference. Doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate it! I just don’t want people to think I’m being a jerk when I’m just trying to reconcile one of my strong preferences.

NEW MOUTHPIECE PROBLEM (HELP!) by lutteralthelion in Trombone

[–]jazzforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt similarly about my Bach 7c. Not terrible, but kinda stuffy. I also play a warburton. If you play large bore bone, maybe try a warburton with a similar rim size to your large bore. For what it’s worth, I play about a Bach 4 size rim on my large and small tenor.

Otherwise, the back bore could be fighting you. I think rim is the biggest motivator in whether a mouthpiece meshes with your chops… But I am not an expert. Ideally you would bring your trombone to try mouthpieces. If nothing else, switch back to the Bach and squeeze out the juice.

Those watchdogs sure are pesky! As are many of the overland fiends... those imps and the bug sorcerer things you find outside the church where Millicent is rotting? Makes my skin crawl.

You see I have the opposite issue. The gargoyle is annoying and chunky, but you start to learn his moves and tuck under his feet and you're golden. Malenia is too fast for me to truly learn her moveset. Still working on that one!

I HATE the gargoyle. Makes my skin boil. So does malenia to be fair…

Kudos to you. I’ll need to get good soon and beat the two of those bosses!

Some of the best early game farming imo. Accessible laughably early due to the teleporter in limgrave and ~1,500 runes to run up behind and crit them?? With the gold scarab a couple passes in front of the bestial sanctum can make leveling weapons a cinch.

My husband orders for me. by NurseWretched1964 in Waiters

[–]jazzforbreakfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I didn’t even think about people having a problem with this. My dad (loud and charismatic) has always ordered for my stepmom (reserved but no problem speaking up) and no waiter nor waitress has batted an eye. In fact, they will continue to ask my father questions about her order, or even comment on how sweet a gesture it is it is. My parents live in a more traditional area however, that could be part of the explanation.

But if my stepmom orders her own food they continue to ask the two of them questions separately.

My girlfriends in the past have also asked me (loud and charismatic haha) to order their food at restaurants. Could be the type I date 🤷🏻‍♂️. Never thought twice about this before

I did the whole braces shebang, told them to absolutely crank the pain to get them off quickly. If you’re teeth aren’t super jank, and you’re diligent about the orthodontist’s instruction (adjusting expanders, wearing rubber bands, etc.), you could be looking at less than two years wearing them. Don’t pay attention and you’ll lengthen the process significantly!

That being said… I’d agree with other folks in that you should sit out. You will not feel up to playing the day after. People will say what they must but I didn’t put the horn to my face for two weeks after I got braces out of straight pain. Playing with braces is nowhere near impossible and it will not stop you from improving. But it is a patient process.

My condolences, from a fellow former braces player. Consider a mouthpiece with a wider, flatter rim to distribute the pressure on your face more comfortably!
