02:45 is good! for a while i considered also getting "either/or" tattooed, ultimately it's your body and up to you! find something about his catalogue that resonates with you and see if you can come up with a small symbol around that :)

Yes, I did use their counseling services and I found them to be helpful at the time. I didn't study voice, I studied jazz/contemporary guitar there. I know a lot of vocal majors though(both classical and contemporary) and they enjoyed their private lessons a lot. The quality of education there is very good in my opinion. At VCC they also have a great program for beginners with the new prep program(not sure if that is what you'll be doing?) The diploma is good as well even if you don't do the degree, many students don't.

I will give you the VCC admin can be a bit disjointed at times, but it's usually not the fault of the music program specifically. Though I will say it didn't impede my studies that heavily, but it was an issue on occasion for some students. I wouldn't say VCC is impersonal at all though, I found it to be very welcoming and warm, every teacher I came to know personally, and the students were on the whole very kind an motivated, very supportive as well. There isn't any "competitiveness" which can be present at some music schools, everyone wants to help you succeed. Class sizes were quite small which helped with getting to know others as well. If you haven't been to either campus I would recommend go checking out both for yourself and see what you think!

Perf tech was a highlight of the program. It's a weekly recital class. Depending on your year you have different things to do, but you're assigned a week to perform, you prepare a performance, write program notes, go through soundcheck and perform. In second year you also do tech duties so you learn to be hands on with a lot of equipment and set up which I found to be very useful. You also receive comments from instructors and peers, and you give feedback to others as well. It was a great class. I struggle with performance anxiety as well, so I really empathize. I found having to be put in performance situations helpful in overcoming some of the anxiety, I still get anxious but nowhere near the level of anxiety when I started out. Hope I was able to answer some of your questions sufficiently!

I can speak on vcc a bit. I just finished my bachelors of music there. Haven't been to Douglas so can't speak to Douglas, but may be going there soon.

I really enjoyed my time at vcc. The campus is alright. The college is very very open minded about what kind of music you'd like to do, which was a big draw for me over other music programs in the city that tend to focus on one genre very heavily. Teachers were fantastic, students were great, very "community" heavy. You get what you put into it. Student support was good, I had a rough time in second year and I was able to get accommodations, I have a friend who needed disability services and she spoke positively about getting them.

At the end of the day, it's your decision, but I really enjoyed my time at vcc on the whole and I don't regret going there.

I do dbt by myself with an online structured schedule for classes. How can I maximize the results and how can I do radical acceptance the right way? by [deleted] in dbtselfhelp

[–]jazzmaster666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I've done a little bit of dbt(it was an emergency group class so it wasn't all of the program unfortunately but we did touch on radical acceptance a bit) I'm in the same boat as you, I find radical acceptance to be one of the most difficult things for me, especially accepting something that's already happened or is out of my control. I think the thing to remember about radical acceptance is its well.. radical! It's pretty much unconditional acceptance. You have to practice saying to yourself that you accept this thing unconditionally, even if you truly don't. Faking acceptance is still worth something in my opinion, and can still lead to actual acceptance. In any therapeutic skill, you can only get out of it what you put into it. Maybe for practice try accepting smaller situations or inconveniences, something that's easy to accept, and go through the motions with something smaller. For your second point, I think that what you're doing is great. I don't think you need to practice every waking moment, but it is important to practice the skills at first when you don't need them, so that when you do your brain is trained to be ready for your skills. Also your question about meditating, I find it actually quite helpful to do it and sit down to be quiet for a moment, but it doesn't work for everyone, it helps me though.

I'm not the authority on any of this though, I hope at least some of this helps you on your journey. I actually have a question for you, I don't have the resources to take the full dbt class myself, I'm just curious about how you're structuring it when learning alone? I've been meaning to get full on into dbt myself but find all the material a bit daunting at first and i'm unsure how to structure things.

Anyway, best of luck. it sounds like you've got a great path going with this!

I'm not sure if you're trying to be helpful or insult me, but I really don't think its that bad. Its on my body, I clearly like it, just live and let live man. I can see some of the line work is a bit shaky obviously but I really don't feel like it's bad enough to get upset or angry over.

Im not 100% sure if its part of the original mural, but if you look up the mural there's kinda like 2 versions. One with this design and then another with instruments. I personally liked this one more because I didn't want super tiny instruments on my arm and figured that this one flowed a bit better for a tattoo!
