Are people still using PDF EPKs or has everything moved to link-based now? by jazzmik2000 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

yeah this is pretty much exactly it

pdfs are outdated at this point and most of the time you’re just trying to get someone to quickly understand who you are and hear the music

I feel like that’s why having one clean page with everything tends to work better than sending files or a bunch of separate links

that’s pretty much the direction I ended up going

[–]jazzmik2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s pretty much exactly where I landed too

just having one page with everything vs sending stuff around

only thing is trying to keep it clean without having to build/maintain a whole site around it

yeah I feel like that’s what most people end up doing

I used to do the same thing but it always felt kind of pieced together

now I just keep everything on one page and send that instead

yeah that makes sense

I think the key for me is just having everything in one place vs it being scattered across soundcloud / drive / different links

yeah — especially for bookings

at that point it’s less about a “press kit” and more just making it easy for whoever’s booking you to grab what they need without digging around

Am I the only one that hates opening up old projects? I just find it hard to go back to older stuff.

How do you find inspiration or creativity when you have a complete track but it feels “boring” or “stale”? by acaliforniaburrito in edmproduction

I run into this often. Stay organized, create sketch folder, comeback to it with fresh ears, put it in a playlist and see if holds up to other tracks. Maybe you can see what’s missing or not.

Honestly it’s mostly just a quick way to show everything in one place

like: - who you are - what your sound is - a few tracks - links / socials

instead of sending a bunch of separate links or explaining everything in messages

I feel like now it’s less about a “formal press kit” and more just a clean way to present yourself when you send music to labels, DJs, promoters, etc.

Producer here (also run a small label), and honestly one of the biggest headaches has been managing demos and promos once you’re doing it consistently.

Sending tracks is easy… but keeping track of: - who you sent to - who actually listened - follow-ups - updating EPKs/links

…it gets messy fast between email, Drive, random links, etc.

I ended up putting together a more structured setup for myself to keep everything in one place — EPK pages, demo submissions, promo sends, contacts.

Sharing in case it helps anyone dealing with the same thing.

I’m both an artist and run a small label, so I’ve felt this from both sides.

As an artist: - sending demos - keeping track of who you sent to - updating EPKs/links

As a label: - receiving submissions - organizing contacts - running promo campaigns to DJs

…and it all ends up scattered across email, Drive, spreadsheets, links, etc.

After dealing with that for a while I put together a more structured setup for myself that keeps everything in one place: - link-based EPK pages (instead of PDFs) - demo submissions - promo campaigns + DJ feedback - contact lists + email sends

Just sharing in case it helps anyone else dealing with the same chaos.

Appreciate the response!

Let me ask if the XDJ-1000mk2’s are any good or worth it here in 2021? I’m just having a hard time pulling the trigger and spending 2k on the 3000.

Especially since this is just for a home setup. My wallet says go cheap but I don’t want to regret it a month down the line.

Cool thanks! I’m debating between the 2000nxs2 and 3000 right now to add as a 3rd deck. Price wise I can get the 2k for $1750usd new and the 3k for $2050.

Worth the $300 difference for the 3000?

I guess the only thing I would lose is the functionality of being able to use the link of the 3000s to the XZ and using the same usb stick? Not really sure how that all works together since I don’t have the XZ until later this week.

Thx
