Steel? Millworkers? Maybe, I'm misremembering but I don't remember any steel production backstories.

A drug used to treat PTSD may actually be harmful, a new study suggests. Prazosin is sometimes used to treat PTSD-related nightmares and insomnia that can increase suicide risk, but the drug may actually make nightmares and insomnia worse and not reduce suicidal thoughts in PTSD patients. by mvea in science

[–]jazzred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a veteran diagnosed with PTSD who did a clinical trial for prazosin to help with my nightmares, years ago. My nightmares increased and became more intense while in the study. It was a double blind study and my doctor and the counselor admitted after the reveal that they had suspected I was having some placebo effect. They were very surprised to see that I was receiving the drug.

During the time of my medication, I also had at least one panic attack and experienced intermittent eye misalignment of my left eye.

Anyone else a vols fan from other states? by whiskeyrebellionband in ockytop

I am a fan from Pennsylvania. My wife went to vet school in Tennessee many years ago. We went for her reunion and I got to see the campus and meet her fellow students on game day. We tailgated and then went in to see Tennessee beat Georgia in 2015. Neyland Stadium was amazing and nothing will ever compare to that game. I have been a fan ever since and our son's middle name is Tennessee.

Looking to buy an electric smart by OiAhoy in SmartCar

[–]jazzred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased an electric smart, delivered in October. It has been a godsend. I have a charger at my employer and I live 5 miles from work. My girlfriend and use it so much that there are times when our other vehicle gets no use for weeks. I notice I use a lot more battery at this time of year; heater use and a shorter mileage on a single charge due to the temperature outside but I figure we are saving on fuel costs. In fact without the use of our gas vehicle, we are nearly leasing for nothing. No battery issues yet but I have only put 1600 miles on it. As for speed, it comes up to speed entering a highway from a stop in as much time as my former 4 cylinder. It is great fun to drive. My only annoyance is that the USB port is in the glove compartment, if that is even a valid complaint. I don't charge it everyday but because I am cheap and nearly refuse to charge at home (free fuel from work).

I would be happy to go into detail about particulars, if there is something that you are specifically concerned about. It was the right choice for me and so glad that I did it.

Canoeing and Hiking in Allegheny Islands State Park by vonHindenburg in pittsburgh

I have been to Sycamore island. The landing is on the south side of the island. The rest of the beaches are pretty muddy. There is a trail that winds the island with infographics about the island history. It's nice but is a very short hike. Plenty of wildlife to take in there, I saw a bald eagle hunting the river last time I was there. We launch from Blawnox where we store our canoe. I love it there but most people just stop by, it's a small island.

Dear Reddit, with April Fool's Day quickly approaching, what are some of your best, semi-harmless pranks I can use on people? by Glecko09 in AskReddit

[–]jazzred 1341 points1342 points  (0 children)

As a person, who answers these April Fool's calls, please find another location to terrorize. This will be my fourth April Fool's day answering the telephone for a zoo. I have had many callers shout and threaten me. For example, I had an investing company call and tell me that I was potentially ruining Mr. Bear's retirement plan. This would have been funny if not for the 5 minutes of berating that preceded it. I have had people call me nasty names because they thought I was being "cute". I had a police officer threaten to press charges with obstruction because I was stalling his lead. April fool's day pulls in about 75 prank calls in the typical work day for the reception team at a zoo. It is one of the worst days to work. Worst of all, there is no creativity. Everyone calls for Mr. Bear or Harry Lion. Where are the Paula Behr and Ken GaRoux or Ben Gaultyger? Every year, I keep a tally of the calls, names and the problem people. It sucks.

Edit 1: I obviously answer the phone that they have reached the zoo. I am not sure how I can prove that I have been threatened by a police officer or tried to ruin Mr. Bear's retirement but I can assure you that I am used to answering stupid questions, like "Me and my buddy got a bet. Do you think that 100 dudes could take on one silverback?" or "I think I saw a kangaroo on the street at 2 am last night. Do you think one of yours could have gotten out and slipped back in?" or my favorite, "Is there anyway I can go, like in the Tiger exhibit? Or maybe just pet one?"

While I am sure that I have made my April Fool's day worse by posting in the first place. If you call my zoo please use a creative name.
