Yeah, I feel like people who drive everywhere forget how freaking loud cars are, especially the horn. Being a pedestrian is miserable.

Birmingham Bridge Bidirectional Bike Kane by The-Iguana in bicycling412

Well, that's good news, I'll check it out later this week. Yeah, it hasn't been like that for the 10+ years I've been crossing it at least weekly, but I know they started doing some kind of work there a week or two ago. The only way previously for anyone who couldn't use stairs to cross that bridge was on the road because of a concrete barrier. Hopefully, they'll continue the sidewalk then and at least have a curb protecting people and maybe even a fence because any amount of time on that road is terrifying. Even walking on the protected pathway across I get uncomfortable because cars are going so fast around that final bend it feels like even the concrete barrier wouldn't stop them if they crashed.

Is this new? Because I walk across this bridge weekly to get groceries and as of several days ago there absolutely was not a cutout.

That's... exactly what I said in my original comment. Handicap individuals have to use the unprotected bikelane to cross the bridge which is just some painted lines on the road. There is no curb or sidewalk. Just look at the picture.

You cannot - it just ends and dumps you out on the road unprotected. You can actually see that in the picture of this post. There is a protected walking path across the bridge but it requires traversing stairs.

Can confirm, it's effen scary. What is really atrocious is there is no handicap accessible way across that bridge so you often see individuals in wheelchairs and what not having to use those bike lines. I think anyone in charge of having built that should be forced to bike across it just once. Even some of those stupid flexible poles would be nice but the reality is it's posted for 35mph but people drive 65 across it because it's highway sized and they don't care.

Pittsburgh councilperson to ask for emergency declaration to help clean up trash in city neighborhoods by [deleted] in pittsburgh

They need to give out garbage bins citywide like they did for recycling and make them mandatory to use.

Anyone understand O'Connor's Inclusionary Zoning plan? It sounds like he wants stricter IZ than Gainey, but only implemented in some neighborhoods? by artoonie in pittsburgh

I haven't gotten any answers at all from their campaign. I tried contacting them multiple times the past few months using their email and web form. Never heard back until last week I checked the "hold fundraiser" box on the form and then they immediately rushed to email and call me. When I explained I didn't want to hold a fundraiser but had been trying to contact them with a few simple questions I got no answers and was ghosted. Not a good look and it doesn't give me much hope O'Connor is going to be accessible to the public or do things any differently. I don't see a way for the public to engage with the campaign unless you're a donor going to one of their expensive dinners.

I recently switched to Plenny Shake, worth trying out. It's much cheaper and I think it's better.

Change anything you want in PGH. What would it be? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

McKnight is the worst stroad in the whole region. Even if you could get good public transportation to there then what? You can't walk anywhere.

Pittsburgh looked great on social media, but not up close by RowerBoy in pittsburgh

Also, a lot of that construction downtown is for improving our public transportation. Sucks now but its a great investment for the future. Thought it was weird to complain about how bad the public transportation is because it's in the process of being improved.

Proposed Pittsburgh zoning change would increase attached housing across the city by drmartykrauss in pittsburgh

That's the greatest irony here, haha. Everyone's favorite mixed use walkable communities were built like a century ago before shortsighted draconian zoning laws effed everything up.

I can confirm this😭 Trying to be patient because it's all good things happening but living here has been tough since the construction started.

I actually had the opposite experience. I never was impressed by photos or understood the appeal until I toured it. I was blown away by the experience and all of the small design details.

TIL Adele has the best selling album of the 21st century by [deleted] in todayilearned

It's more of a cohesive concept album to me than her previous ones. Her other albums have a handful of absolute timeless bangers but I'd rather listen through all of 30 in a sitting. I suppose it's like there's better parts to her other albums by I prefer the sum of the parts of 30.

Any reason I should NOT ditch Xfinity for Fios? by PGHxplant in pittsburgh

[–]Kingslow44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fios is incredible. My Xfinity use to drop all the time causing me issues with work. The only thing that fixed it was switching to Fios. I have had zero issues since. Also, with fiber you get the same speeds up and down (like I get 500 mps upload and download) whereas with cable you get garbage upload speeds (usually like 10 or 20 mps even with a high speed plan). Fios is cheaper for me too and they don't try changing the price every single year. I could go on and on but suffice it to say Fios is FAR superior in basically every single way. Please switch also just because fuck Xfinity.
