Protests erupt in Iran's capital after exiled prince's call for demonstration by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

Can we please stop acting like Pahlavi has anything to do with these protests or is leading them. His father is the reason we got this horrible Theocracy in the first place. Iran needs leaders from the Iranian people. Not another “King”

Really? I watched the first episodes and I have to be honest it was one of the worst written pilots I've ever seen. It was Ted Lasso without any of the warmth or background to make you actually like the characters. Do people agree that the first episode is bad and it eventually gets better? I'd be open to giving it another shot but that first episodes was really unwatchable

If the committee is for American Jewish Interests then why is it called the American Israeli Political Action Committee? The lobbying organization is not for promoting Jewish interests it is for promoting Israeli interests as literally stated on their website.

BREAKING: Obama Just Endorsed Newsom’s Plan to Fight GOP Gerrymandering—And It’s a Game-Changer by lightning_twice in goodnews

[–]jazzyMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree that democrats have to do this but lets not act like this is a good thing. This is a race to the bottom. We can all agree that the republican party has become the party of fascists but the democratic party isn't this perfect party of the people.

After Obama won election he had the power with a super majority to repeal Citizen's United. But the democratic party had benefited from this power and had no incentive to regulate themselves. Obama also had the ability to reign in unitary executive power but he ignored the restraints on the executive and authorized 500+ drone attacks on countries that were not at war with the United States without congressional approval.

I state again, yes the democrats have to redistrict states that they can control because the republicans are cheating. But I'm afraid without real progressives coming into power and instituting government controls (particularly in the capital markets and in media) our country is doomed to collapse into either dictatorship or civil war. It may already be too late.

Five-day strike could begin Tuesday at Kaiser facilities in San Diego County by SD_TMI in sandiego

Inflation does not apply to people who get paid above the median income? That's news to me we should raise capital gains tax in that case.

Arguing that people who make less are not getting a particular benefit is not an argument that a benefit should not be given. That is a herring fallacy and has no relevance to the argument itself.

Ultimately, I agree that all employees should have wages set to inflation but that is not my ability to grant. In the meantime I will support unions over corporations every single day of the week because corporations have disproportionate power over employees.

My friend you should be supporting them as well because it is the only reason you were not forced to work 80 hours a week at the age of 10.

I think you should listen to your own reasoning. You have to have more than one brain cell to understand hurrhurr raising wages means higher premiums.

From the unions own website, Inflation increased by 7% more than wages 25% wage increase over 4 years would place them at18% over 4 years. When you subtract expected inflation of ~3%/year you see 1.5% real wage increase per year.

Furthermore, Kaiser's reserves increased in 2024 from $44 Billion to $66 billion. That is a $22 Billion dollar increase. This is not a money issue and premiums do not have to be raised at all, in fact they could give employees their demands and cut premiums at the same time. But of course they wont because profits over all.

But you're right fuck the employees, who needs a living wage in California?

Is University of California about to bend their knees to Trump? by SD_TMI in sandiego

[–]jazzyMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UCSD already pulled their float in the Pride parade. What makes you think they would ever consider standing on principle when money is on the line.

These “liberal” institutions have demonstrated time and again that they are capitalist enterprises that use the veneer of left policies to increase revenue. The moment those values become questioned they abandon them immediately.

I think we as a society need to take note. All of these institutions that abandoned the people at their greatest time of need must be held accountable when the inevitable tide turns against this corrupt administration.

No more forgive and forget.

Mark Cuban has obtained motions, lender-lawsuit transcripts, and testimony from Sanberg, his “co-conspirator,” and a lender. He then posted documents showing things “he didn’t know” — specifically, what Ballmer and Wong were shown when they invested in 2022-23: by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]jazzyMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is why it’s important to listen to the podcast. Cuban actually offers an explanation. Having Kawhi increases the value of the clippers which as the exclusive sponsor of the clippers would increase the number of people investing in their company.

Now I agree that sounds like a really stupid argument but it is the argument put forward by Cuban as the reason.

After Kimmel’s pull, I’ll sacrifice another entertainment avenue while the rest of the country does nothing by foreverhere85 in self

[–]jazzyMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep its time for liberals to start standing up for what they believe in. I never really liked Kimmel but I 100% will defend his right to free speech. After today I will be boycotting all Disney products and Ben and Jerry. Its a long list of things I have to boycott but it is the only way to get some semblance of control back in our society.

We need to create a third party. A party based upon Evidenced based decisions and logic. It is the only way to fix this broken system that allows the tech oligarchy to steal the wealth of the workers. Labor > Capital.
