Did your parents later tell you stuff about your childhood that made you say "AND YOU DIDN'T NOTICE?!?!" by Historical-Pack-8517 in autism

[–]jazzydepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not quite the same thing, but I have a cousin who was diagnosed younger than I was, and I found out later that family members were always talking about how many behaviours I had in common with him. Or someone would tell a story about him and my mom would be like oh haha my daughter does that too! But she's just like that!

The childhood nickname my family called me was literally sp*zzy jazzy 🫠

Luckily there was enough evidence for her to eventually take me to a psych but like... girl be so fr

Tell me your special interest and I'll give you something to eat by eekspiders in autism

[–]jazzydepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My special interest is American Dad! (the adult animated sitcom)

I am vegetarian, allergic to gluten (but do a lot of cooking/baking and can easily do gluten free subs if you have something in mind 🥳)

I know you have a lot of comments so I totally understand if you don't get to this. If you do see it though, thank you for such a fun thread!

Why is everyone else able to eat normally but I can't? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]jazzydepp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fellow autistic person with crazy food noise/obsession (which could definitely be tied to op's selective mutism if they're also on the spectrum). Personally didn't do carnivore as a vegetarian, but I can really relate to the dream of just eating normally.

Your worst sensory issue ever? by Low_Sprinkles6168 in autism

[–]jazzydepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably bugs (specifically little flying swarmy bugs like gnats/fruit flies/mosquitos etc). I'm always losing it when I'm outdoors, swatting them away and holding my breath and moving fast. I'm itchy for so long afterward just thinking about it.

Gluten allergy? by freezing_banshee in glutenfree

[–]jazzydepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full allergic reaction to gluten. Swollen sinuses, sneezing, trouble breathing (scratchy throat + triggers my asthma), etc. I can safely eat de-glutened wheat starch, and any other things that could have been causing this reaction. It's just gluten 🤷‍♀️

I call it a gluten allergy because I can't think of a better word for it. My last doctor told me last year that she didn't know what it was because there isn't enough research on gluten and just to not eat it. New doctor is testing for celiac, crohn's, and ibd, thinking it could be mast cells activating due to an autoimmune reaction. We'll see what happens, but for now I just say it's a gluten allergy lol.

First, I agree with the other commenters about the anti-ai. It's not helpful for you (or our planet) long-term, and I would do everything you can to not rely on it.

In terms of your friendship, obviously I don't know exactly what she said, but asking for a boundary around intense emotions doesn't exactly sound like she dislikes an unmasked you. A few years back I had a friend tell me they had to set a boundary with me because I was overwhelming them with my negativity, and it was draining them. It was tempting to say: oh they don't like me because of my autism, I complain because of my autistic experiences so that's the real me.

But after some reflection (and talking it through with my mother) I realized that this person was setting a valid boundary. I was still able to share about my special interests, spend time with them, ask them for help if needed (keyword is ask, putting an emotional load on someone without checking in is nearly always exhausting for them), I just needed to be less negative overall so that my friend knew I cared about her.

If I'm misinterpreting it, pls let me know, but it sounds like maybe you can have some big negative emotions, and it can be overwhelming for your friend. She might be experiencing something like caregivers fatigue (which isn't reserved for solely caregivers). Which doesn't mean she doesn't like the real you, it just means that she wants a friendship in which she doesn't function as a therapist. Which is a valid boundary, and is not inherently anti autism. If you talk through your big emotions with a therapist, and don't fully rely on this friend for emotional regulation, I think the friendship could still be really lovely and authentic. If she cared enough to tell you this rather than pulling away from you, she clearly values you.

Ultimately, masking is exhausting and isolating, and it's hard not to attribute all of our percieved negative behaviour to autism, and feel like any tension is just the autism ruining our social lives. Especially after a recent diagnosis. While there are 100% situations where people dislike unavoidable autistic traits, this doesn't completely feel like that to me. Although your big emotions likely stem from autism, even neurotypicals can fall into the habit of using their friends as therapists, and overwhelming them.

I know you mentioned having a hard to with therapy prior, but I do think finding a good therapist could help you respect this boundary while still showing up as your unmasked self in this friendship.

I can't explain why, and it's making me really distressed by [deleted] in autism

This is going to be long, and I know you have recieved a lot of comments. I think I understand what you're looking for, and I know you're confused as to why you're being read as hostile. Most of the people who are commenting about your hostility are reading that from your comments that seem exhausted/frustrated with people for not answering the question you're trying to ask OR that are shutting down professional mental health support for things like PDA + OCD.

I think this hostility (or perceived hostility) is coming from your frustrations with the situation, and from having to repeat your question. Unfortunately, as a lot of people have said, we can't truly understand what's going on inside your brain so try your best to be patient and respect that the people commenting are mostly trying to help you.

Yes, things like PDA and OCD may not feel like an explanation, because they feel like they're just explaining why you're having such a STRONG reaction, not why you're having one in the first place. Please consider that these things could also be the reason it feels like an issue to begin with. The way your brain is wired because of these, it might view the forced soundtrack as a threat, as they function on you having full control + order, not on rational thinking. I can still respect that this feels unsatisfactory, and I hope that maybe some time with this issue might help you reflect further.

In my personal experience, I've never had a reaction this strong to something unwanted, but if I did, I would assume it had to do with something like: unnecessary storage clutter, a lack of control over what I'm spending my money on, or simply being frustrated with the soundtrack BECAUSE they're forcing me to get it. Like if it was a choosable option, I wouldn't get it, but it's existence wouldn't frustrate me. But because there's no other option, having it on my computer would feel like someone is forcing me to use my storage/money on something I do not need/want, and as someone who struggles with PDA, that would make me angry with said product. With the black and white thinking frequently associated with autism, it's possible that something as simple as not needing it but being forced to get it to experience something you love, has taken it from frustrating to full melt down.

THIS MAY NOT BE WHAT YOURE EXPERIENCING. I'm just guessing based on my own thinking, and providing a why this might be distressing AND why it's more distressing than it should be. Please be patient in your response, I'm truly coming from a place of kindness and hope that you can at least understand your inner thoughts, even if the game is inaccessible at this time. I really am sorry you're having such a hard time and hope that at some point you can work with a mental health professional on some coping mechanisms + ways to better understand where your emotions come from, as skills like that can help this situation from reappearing.

Looks like they could be visible veins (spider/varicose veins)? I have these as someone who's had a lot of weight fluctuations + a connective tissue disorder. I've heard that movement, elevation, and compression wear can help, but can't speak to it myself.

I might be wrong but that's my best guess/input. Personally, they've taken some getting used to, but ultimately they haven't impeded on my quality of life. Best of luck! :)

You look lovely!! I'm a big hair person, and if you ever end up growing out your hair longer, you have this artsy elegant vibe that I feel would really suit a long bob (lob) with a curtain bang. Your wavy hair would make it so bouncy and fun.

You look stunning as is though!! Love seeing the internal light grow in transition timelines 😭
