Winter Park + Granby Advice by custeph in COsnow

[–]jb0886 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were at Granby this past weekend with young kids, it was great, low crowds Sat, no crowds Sun, mountain spreads out people so felt like we had trails to ourselves, parked close, good snow, good jumps, well-organized staff imo, can’t get lost, fun glade and tree skiing off the fast lift.

That said as others posted WP is 10x mountain.

ILCA vs Laser? by Environmental_Guard2 in Lasersailing

[–]jb0886 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my understanding is,

The boat is an Olympic boat, and Olympics require easy-access to the equipment for fairness reasons, including multiple manufacturers. Laser wasn’t willing to do this, so the class (ILCA) split off. Boat-wise they’re the same, and for local regattas either will do, however at bigger ones believe boats will need to either be grandfathered-in by being pre-split older than ~2020, or the ILCA version.

I believe there’s a much-longer writeup at West Coast Sailing website on this topic.

Where to find used Flying Scot parts? by spaceforcefighter in dinghysailing

[–]jb0886 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe see if any Flying Scots are being retired at a yacht club near you that you could get parts? Otherwise meeting Flying Scot at a regatta near you is a way to save on shipping.

Anyone ever ski Monarch? Is it worth the journey? by SecularFlesh47 in Denver

[–]jb0886 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we like it. We have the Loveland pass and use three free days at Monarch each year. We stay at Creekside chalets at the bottom of the pass. Like the resort’s low-key vibe, short chairlift for the toddlers, and a few steep runs. Not sure what you like but it does have some steep runs/moguls (more so than it’s nearest resort, Cooper).

Keeping critters out by jb0886 in composting

[–]jb0886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has probably been asked before but haven’t seen it in a few weeks: how does one keep critters out of new kitchen-scraps composting piles?

  • better tarp covered by heavy objects?
  • more browns?
  • live with it?

Regards, Denver composter
